is my new ep/ever controller done for?

No definitely not. I have owned several Epevers over the last couple of years and then changed them out for Victron SCCs. All my problems went away and I wish I had gone with Victron from the start. Don't waste any more money or time with Epevers. If budget is tight even just go with a...

is my new ep/ever controller done for?

    Victron 150/70 or 150/85.

North facing panels do better on cloudy days than south facing. Weird.

Then I would say the 15 degree north panels see more sky on a diffuse cloudy day.

North facing panels do better on cloudy days than south facing. Weird.

I would guess that they see more of the sky on a diffuse cloudy day. How steep are the S panels? Are there more trees or buildings on the south side?

Epever 3210AN charge controller dropping out of MPPT mode

So before resetting the breaker you had... PV 1.16A 13.44v 15.6w Then after resetting the breaker you got... PV 1.04A 51.59v 53.59w That's the same problem I was having with my multiple Epevers as well. They would randomly lock PV voltage down low and I would only receive a very low...

    LiFePO4 with Bluetooth expectations

Don't count on being able to adjust everything. And lot of different batteries use different BMS and the bluetooth apps mostly only read them. Critical settings are usually locked away behind a password. A battery manufacturer may not be keen on supplying the password to you.

    Solar MC4 wiring question

Yes do that. Because if you have them mixed up somewhere, shutting off a positive or negative on either string would shut the circuit down.

    Solar MC4 wiring question

Sounds like you have got two of the wires crossed over somewhere. Follow them back and make sure they're going to where you thought they were going.

    Interesting phenomena

Yes if your panels are near a lot of trees, you could generate more on a slightly cloudy day than on a clear sunny day. The light on a cloudy day is defuse and comes from multiple directions rather than just from the sun itself on a sunny day. A single shadow over a panel can kill a lot of...

Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

12 volt doesn't have such a higher arcing potential as 48 volt.

An Unusual RV System Configuration Question

It will be fine. A battery bank with 4 100Ah batteries and 2 460Ah batteries in parallel will perform better than a battery bank with 4 100Ah batteries in parallel. Every battery will contribute to load and absorb charge. What you could do is connect the 4 100Ah batteries in parallel amongst...

    Bi-Facial vid I found interesting

When you've got a decently sized battery bank, the time of your solar production isn't as critical. The total solar production for the day is what counts. I don't see the slight increase in the shoulders of the daily curve making up for the large dip in midday production when your number one...

Some real 12v love from Will!

Don't tell anyone, but I run most of my house on a 12v system. 🙁 Large battery bank so each battery is usually just discharging at 0.1c (25 amps max off each 300Ah battery) Multiple SCC's charging the bank and multiple inverters running various loads. Granted the biggest single load is a...

My parents are moving into a parked 50 amp RV inside 11 acres to be near my aging grandparents. Please help design their off grid solar system?

But it doesn't require being 'locked into the Victron ecosystem'. You could just have one Victron component amongst your system and it will still function as advertised. You could just have a Victron SCC all by itself. Or you could just have a Victron shunt only. Or you could just have a...

Crazy things you do with excess power

They're big enough to cover 5 or 6 days easily. Which is more than enough to cover 95% of the usual weather patterns where I live in New Zealand. It's going to be different for everybody. My point is I'm content when the batteries are full and the solar has rammed down just to cover...

Crazy things you do with excess power

That's why I said earlier in this thread - the days my batteries are full before lunchtime, I feel grateful and content. My batteries are full and its running most of my household loads. Including the hot water cylinder 24/7. I couldn't care less about not using potential solar production.

Crazy things you do with excess power

I feel content that my battery bank has fully charged yet again and my solar is easily covering any of the house's loads and that I now would have 'excess power'! So I use it to feel secure and as a sense of achievement.

My parents are moving into a parked 50 amp RV inside 11 acres to be near my aging grandparents. Please help design their off grid solar system?

Just about anything can be achieved if you throw enough money at it. This is what I would consider the ultimate system in a RV... I would highly recommend to go with Victron components (except for maybe the batteries). Being that it is modular and can add more at a later date if they find...

Unintended consequences of Solar that we see

A young lady that lives down the road said if the power is ever out for an extended period of time, she's coming to my place for a shower because I'll have hot water.

    LOLs on this controller

I laughed at this comment... "Do yourself a favour - there are many many importers selling off cheap Epever controllers that are actually MPPT. They are cheap, some would say unreliable, but at least they ARE an actual MPPT controller and won't trash your battery. If you want a really really...

Off-grid and happy, can you guess what inverter I am using?

Interesting project! A useful tip, and you may already know this, but once you have the setting you want on one SCC, you can save those settings under a profile name. Under 'Battery preset' select 'Create preset'. Then you just need to select that preset in all the other SCC's rather than...

    Victron MPPT over panelling

I've done that on the two arrays that I oversized by 200%. I have a 150/60 set to 50A and a 100/50 set to 45A. They run significantly cooler that way and the bus bar that they're attached to isn't getting as overloaded. (It has other SCCs going to it as well) The benefit of oversizing PV...

    Cloud edge effects... WOW!

Not likely. Someone should have already pre calculated PV voltage at the colder temperatures the panels are likely to see.

    Victron MPPT over panelling

It's also the common understanding when dealing with say grid tied inverters. 6kw of PV to a 5kw inverter is consider oversizing.

    Victron MPPT over panelling

That's because Tim said something incorrect at the beginning of this thread then tried to change the common understanding of overpaneling to cover his incorrect statement. This is Victron's definition of overpaneling/oversizing...

    Victron MPPT over panelling

If that was the case then no SCC manufacturer would recommend or endorse oversizing. They talk about oversizing as when the moment you have more PV going to the controller than the controller can output at the system's voltage.
  32. Kiwi2000

    Victron MPPT over panelling

On grid tied feedback inverters, oversizing is when you have more watts of PV installed than the capacity rating of the inverter. Like 6kw of PV to a 5kw inverter. It's the common definition of oversizing.
