Absorption to Float control method

The charger/converter in my RV controls when the charger goes from Absorption to Float by using a shunt connected to the battery, and I set a "Full A" setting on the charger to 2 amps, so when the current reaches 2 amps, this is what causes the charger to go into Float. But most chargers I see do not use a shunt, so it's a mystery to me how they know when the battery is fully charged so the voltage can be reduced to the Float voltage. I would think that current sensing is the most accurate way to know when the battery is full. Anyone know how those non-shunt chargers "decide"?

Some other ways to do it.
1 Voltage by charge leads with configured offset
2 Voltage by charge leads without configured offset
3 Voltage by dedicated sense leads
4 Amperage via charge leads
5 Absorption timer
