I own and operate an off-grid solar installation company “GridRidSolar” in San Diego California. I have personally installed a wide variety of off-grid systems in my neighborhood and in the various cities around me. I have lived off-grid for 10 years with my wife and four boys and became inspired to start a small company providing custom off grid systems with solar and LiFePO4 batteries. I feel I have a lot to offer those looking to go off-grid based off of my personal experience and passion for the technology and lifestyle.

My sister in San Diego has a Sunrun grid tied system that they want a battery backup installed on.Is this something that your company can do or have any suggestions on how to do this.Thanks Pat

Hello Yes we can do this. Installing new battery off-grid systems and upgrading grid tie systems with battery backup is what we like to do.

I was looking for some advice about off-grid here in the San Diego area! Do you offer any consulting on projects that are partial DIY? I did have two initial questions, maybe you can answer?

1) For grid-connected, but not feeding back to the grid. In this example, the hybrid inverter provides solar for 80% of the circuits, and is not able to send power back to the grid... is a solar permit still required?

2) For ground mount, I see that any panel rack setup that is under 5 feet over the ground, or weighs under 400 pounds doesn't require a building permit.. is there any other type of permit required in this scenario?
