I have a self-installed, off grid, whole house system. I'm replacing the 48v 800 Ah LA battery bank (7 yr old) with Lithiums (3.2v 400Ah). Design parameters are a direct replacement to allow more DOD reserve. Which is the better BMS config: 2P16S (1 string of 16 pairs with 16 BMS lines) or 2 parallel strings of 16S each and parallel 2 separate 16 lines BMS units (32 BMS total lines). Does either it make any real difference for the battery reliability?

I honestly do not know if it makes a difference for reliability but usually people do paralel then series . I think mainly because its less hassels with 1 BMS vs 2 BMS
