In case anyone is trying to use local connect anywhere at home this is what I did. Depending on your networking gear and skill set your results may vary.

  1. Create a separate SSID for the inverter module to connect to. (even more advanced option is use a PPSK assigned to a new vLan)
  2. Put that new SSID on its own vLan.
  3. Create an interface on your router assigned to that new vLan with an ip of 10.10.10.254 (could also be called the gateway IP address)
  4. Have a DHCP server on that vLan assign the inverter module a reservation IP of 10.10.10.1

Now anywhere you can connect to your main wifi network with your phone you can tap on the "Local Connect" option in the app and have near live updates and control.

I use all ubiquiti equipment so it was a breeze to set up.

It's sad we have to jump through all these hoops when they could simply implement a scan network option or manual IP entry when we tap on local connect and it doesn't find the inverter at 10.10.10.1. They must earn substantial revenue from selling our data sent to their servers?
