Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a project to upgrade an existing renewable energy system and could really use some expert advice. The goal is to maximize self-consumption and minimize grid dependency while incorporating new components.

Current System:

  • Wind Turbine: 5KW grid-tied
  • Inverter: Windy Boy (No grid AC input)
  • Connection: MCB -> Energy Generation Meter -> Isolator -> 32A MCB on the consumer unit (fed by grid electricity)
  • Circuit Diagram: Attached for reference

Planned System:
  • Solar Array: 8KW
  • Inverters: 2x 11KW Hybrid Inverters in parallel (PIP MAX 11KW manual)
  • Battery Banks: 3x 15KWH in parallel (Seplos Mason 280)
  • Connection: The consumer unit will now be fed from the parallel inverters (22KW total). The AC input will be connected to the grid to keep the system topped up.

Requirements:

  • The existing wind turbine must maintain a connection to dump excess energy to the grid.

Questions:

  1. Can the existing 5KW wind turbine still be connected directly to the consumer unit in this new setup?
  2. Could the wind turbine share the same AC inputs on the parallel hybrid inverters as the grid input?
The new inverters are hybrid and have an AC input for the grid. They do not export electricity, which is a requirement as we are not permitted to export any further energy.

Any advice on how to make this transition smoothly while ensuring optimal self-consumption would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any expertise or musings!
