Unistrut attached to fence shed on back of fence. I get storage and a place to mount an array. Not completed in this picture. Shed has 4x4 & 6x6 in corners. Storage for the boat with benefits :) If a hurricane approaches I can have panels down and stored in 1 hour. 16x190W=3040 Watts...
  • Post in thread: We Live to Fight Another Day. May the odds be ever in your favor.

The moving molten core in Earths center is why we have a magnetosphere, if it ever stopped we would become like Mars and our atmosphere would blow away from the solar winds. A CME event can overload the protective shield effect of the magnetosphere and wreak havoc on the surface. There are...
  • Post in thread: Micro-air Soft Start

The soft start is powered by the contactor when the demand is there. I went from 109amps to 39 amps on a 5T unit. Lights no longer dim in the house. Very happy with it.
  • Post in thread: New Tariffs in the States

Our housing market AAA low risk mortgages really impacted a lot of countries. We have let unfair trade practices go on for years. Now we finely do something and they are setting up BRICS on a gold standard. Hard to beat a gold standard. One thing for sure is times are changing and we aren't...
  • Post in thread: how old are your flooded batteries

I have had many boats and this one for over 24 years. I have had very expensive batteries and now run inexpensive Wally World batteries. Usually get 4 years out of them. Before ever weekend trip I'll bring out the extension cord and do a overnight charge. In my quest to make everything...
  • Post in thread: Post your Ground Mount Setup

The fence is in the middle of the property. You could say it is the beginning of the back yard facing SSE. I have it all grounded and tied back to an inverter and generator transfer plug. Ideally I would run underground conduit to the house. Work and fishing gets in the way of my solar...

  • Post in thread: Inflation Reduction Act may be Unconstitutional - Take your Credits ASAP

This is what the wife uses. Usually a bunch of fungus indicates that the plants/soil are too wet. We use pretty warm water when mixing, shake well. If it sits give it a good shake again.
  • Post in thread: Battery DC circuit breaker

Speaking of Circuit Breakers, I find myself looking for a good reliable one also. Installed for 11 months with no issues on a EG4 3000. Used supplied breaker and wire. Wife running a couple of things in the kitchen and it overloaded reset and kept working. Came home to find the breaker...
  • Post in thread: Interesting phenomena

I would love to try water cooled irrigation pipe on the back of my ground mount. Heat the pool up and cool down the panels. More KW for the cement pond :geek:
  • Post in thread: Post your Ground Mount Setup

I have had some solar companies stop by and want to take a look at it. Apparently the ground mount doesn't require disconnects on every panel like a roof mounted system. Takes up very little back yard. Keeps the Shed cool and dryer than it was before. We have had some pretty bad storms and...
  • Post in thread: Battery DC circuit breaker

Let me know how that turns out. Now I want to build a load bank and torture test everything! The fact that it will do AC and DC is interesting. I still see +/- for the DC on the breaker.
  • Post in thread: Moveable solar structure

I like this idea even better
  • Post in thread: circuit breaker spark

Don't text from phone late at night, point taken :) This is a bullet breaker with a Trim breaker panel. Hard core DC. Double hole lugs, never seen one fail, get warm, or any issues.

  • Post in thread: How to balance batteries?

This is a recurring subject. I had similar issues when I did the full 56.2/54V settings. One battery would go into protection on one cell and get out of balanced with the others. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/eg4-batteries-not-charging-to-100.81673/post-1094224 I recently tried a setting...
  • Post in thread: EG4 3000 EHV 48 Solar Harvesting

For what I have read you don't want to exceed 450V for best MPPT operation. Best range is 120 - 450 Vdc. I am getting 30-50% due to winter clouds. Every now and then I hear the fans spinning up and getting >80% and I do the happy dance. Running two different panel manufacture and two...
  • Post in thread: SunGoldPower 10kw with EG4 LifePower4 batteries - Closed Loop

I reduced them down to your numbers yesterday. I wanted to give it a try because I've been peeking out at 100% every now and then. One battery was going into protection. Looks good so far. The main load today was mini split.
  • Post in thread: Water heating without charge controller or batteries

It was a new cool subject for me to look into. I didn't know it was a 'thing' but now I do. Just sharing some though.
  • Post in thread: Water heating without charge controller or batteries

    I love that episode :)

  • Post in thread: Massive Texas power outage

I feel for the Texans without power. Contractors all over the country are probably headed that direction to assist with repairs. This years hurricane prediction are off the charts. There is probably a lot of grid tie net metering solar systems that aren't doing anything right now. It could...
  • Post in thread: Anyone in NY see this recent law passed against DIY or non UL2271 packs for mobile vehicles?

1 battery cabinet on wheels and 1 inverter cabinet, don't forget to mound a couple handles on there!
  • Post in thread: Massive Texas power outage

That is exactly what I am doing. Original goal was to keep the fridges going and mini-split in master bedroom. As projects to it grew a little here and there. Put soft start on 5 Ton HVAC, Solar Pump Inverter on Pool, and kitchen appliances. I saw a >50% drop in the electric bill as off-grid...
  • Post in thread: EG4 3000 EHV 48 Solar Harvesting

I started with (8) HQST 190W and was very unhappy with the output. I doubled that to (16) HQST 190W and started to get somewhere. Then I combined (10) Hyundai 305W in parallel with the first (16) string array things really took off. I have them pointed SE the other SW due to trees and other...
  • Post in thread: Solar for Pool Equipment

It is totally acting like a VFD depending upon how much solar is available. I see the Output voltage and frequency go up/down but the pump still keeps spinning. Pump isn't getting warm or any other side effects I can see. I wish it had a hybrid mode where it would pull from the grid when...
  • Post in thread: We Live to Fight Another Day. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Between an EMP or a CME the odds are in mother nature's favor. The current 11 Year Solar Cycle is about to peak, we may just find out. It has happened in the past and will happen again. X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: Earth-orbiting satellites have just detected a strong X1.8-class solar flare (Feb. 21...

There are many hall effect DC clamp meters out there. It is a must have. I also have a Victron shunt and solar assistant so I can look at the graph. I almost missed it until I looked at SA. Clamp meters are great if you are right there and now.
