Hey Tim,
While there are many helpful people here, you seem to go out of your way to respond to all the questions from folks who are new to electrical stuff. Myself included.
I wanted to say thanks. It makes this forum a better place. And happy new year!
Tom
Edit-fixed weird typo.
Mental list:
Sun Fun-Never buy
Big Battery-Never buy
Enphase-Never buy-silly warranty terms
Signature Solar-lame but entertaining….and probably, maybe, never buy. But maybe.
Amy(s)/Docan-Maybe. Depends on stock. B grade. Depends on US warehouse. 90% chance it’s ok...
Here’s where all my time and money go currently. Just finished 1200 feet of waterline. Septic starts this week if the rain holds. Dried in but needs all interior work, plumbing, electric, insulation, etc.
I’m not an expert. I believe soldering creates a hard point that can fail with vibration whereas a good crimp provides good electrical connection while not creating an increased failure potential.
Bad connection created heat. Melted.
I’m more and more convinced that butt splices, crimps, and heat shrink take are the way to go. Too many MC4 issues.
Sorry op. Not really feeling this one. Sounds like the buyer goofed. And now wants to tell the internet how he got screwed.
And this coming from someone who sorta enjoys dumping in sig solar for the battery/inverter fubar deal.
Whether your company runs from this place or not isn’t relevant.
It’s not a loop. There are customers complaining and the community is forming an opinion about your company’s business practices.
Other companies seem to be able to avoid this issue. Except for Big Battery.
You are not doing...
Finally got around to some shop lighting. Off grid. One day I’ll get my grown up system but this is a big step up. Now I can work in the evenings.
200 amp hour 12 volt SOK marine from current connected. 15 socket bistro light string with 100 watt equivalent 12 volt led edison lights. 90...
Lots of people in the south realized at the last cold snap that their grid tied systems weren’t worth didly when it mattered. Grid tie is an awkward marriage with the utility.
My time is short. I don’t want to learn. I don’t know what I need. And I just want to spend some money to feel better.
With these criteria and this level of effort, It doesn’t matter what you buy.
