  • Post in thread: Ruixu 12v 100ah direct replacement

Here's an update on the Ruixu. I opened it up and found that the BMS was not connected. It was taped so tight I couldn't keep it plugged in. Once out of the box and with the BMS plugged in the voltage reading was 16.14v. After discharging to about 1.36v I was able to successfully connect the...
  • Post in thread: Ruixu 12v 100ah direct replacement

Follow up: As I noted above I informed RUiXU and Ms Wang about what I found in the battery. She told me that their engineers investigated the battery construction and discovered the assembly flaw, and corrected it. I have to say, I'm pleased with the communication I have had with this company.
  • Post in thread: Is this risky? SanTan used panels with backside vinyl cracking, tested good, no signs of moisture

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment. Every panel I've purchased from San Tan (used, snail trails, etc) has worked to perfection. Spray some Flexseal over the cracks and rest easy.
  • Post in thread: Why is investing in solar so difficult?

My wife and I just returned to the US after working and living abroad for 18 years. We were initially interested in buying a car that could serve us well for some number of years, but, like you and solar, we found the array of choices, options and financing so bewildering, that we gave up and...
  • Post in thread: Very noob questions dont be alarmed

Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.3 volts. Connecting the 4 cells in series will result in a battery with 13.4 volts (3.3 X 4) and a capacity 280Ah. Connecting the 4 cells in parallel will result in a battery with 3.3 volts (3.3 X 1) and a capacity of 1120Ah.
  • Post in thread: Opened up a ruixu battery. Not impressed...

Will, thanks for the tear-down. As I've noted elsewhere, I also received the battery with a "shut down" BMS. I dissembled mine and thankfully found the same batteries and BMS as your originally reviewed Ruixu. In my case the connector could not stayed plugged in due to the binding tape being too...
  • Post in thread: At this point... if you are buying From Alibaba/Aliexpress you deserve what you get.

I did have a gratifying experience after purchasing an all-in-one Ruixu 100ah battery from AliExpress. It would not take a charge nor would it discharge. The vendor in my case was entirely helpful and at the end of the day I received a full refund without returning the battery. Upon my own tear...
  • Post in thread: Battery powered conveniences

I wonder if we might have a thread where members can show the assorted battery-powered (or hand) devices they use that are stand-alone but can be solar charged. A post by "tigerbiter" regarding powering his coffee grinder got me thinking about how I've managed to deal with the frequent power...
  • Post in thread: Building Your Own Lithium Batteries

If you purchase your cells from RUiXU site then your question has merits. There are, however, many offers of similar, if not identical cells, for substantially less than $140. For example: these cells on offer from eBay I have dealt with RUiXU directly, and if you're seeking vendor support for...
  • Post in thread: 13' Scamp Camper Project

I've been testing my build for 2 weeks and am more than pleased with the outcome. My 1986 Scamp now features a 160 watt flexible panel and a 12v/120Ah battery which I built, guided by Will's videos. It performs fabulously well. The Waeco/Dometic refrigerator, furnace fan and LED lights seem to...
  • Post in thread: Forum improvements ideas

I would certainly endorse the addition of a "Solar Appliances" and 12/24v appliances. Given that the title of the forum is "DIY Solar Power Forum" I'm not enthusiastic about "other renewable..." I find it time consuming enough just to deal with the former.
  • Post in thread: Where's WILL?

Will, I find your technical and educational videos exceptionally helpful. As a beginner at this I have a tall learning curve, but your videos, while sometimes difficult to follow, help flatten that curve. Please keep them coming.
  • Post in thread: Amperage drain & battery monitor

It was the shunt (blush). I evidently flipped it when reinstalling the monitor after installing my second panel. I thank you so much for providing a step-by-step error checking guide, something I'm personally, and obviously, not very good at doing.
  • Post in thread: Amperage drain & battery monitor

This is an excellent visual. As you'll see in my last reply I did reverse the shunt. Your diagram helps me understand how vital the direction of the shunt is. Thanks again. You've been a great help.
  • Post in thread: Half price electric cars

He/she has no numbers and is stating an opinion. I'm certainly not confining myself to short trips or charging only at home, and I'm saving a bundle.
  • Post in thread: AiLI battery monitor and Daly BMS

Thanks Bob142. After looking at your photos and reading your post, I feel confident that I've done everything correctly. Incidentally, the temperature here has gone from a daily high of about 25 to nearly 34, which I believe explains why my 160w flexible panel is not outputting as much current...
  • Post in thread: Very noob questions dont be alarmed

Whoops! You're correct. I'll edit my response.
  • Post in thread: Active BMS vs Daly

Interesting. I wasn't aware that a BMS would shut off during an anomaly. I connected an active BMS to my 4s while connected to a Daly and saw a flurry of activity (on the BattGo). One cell dropped below the alarm. I was apprehensive about leaving it connected. The Daly seems to do very well when...
  • Post in thread: Threads going Off Topic & Other Forum issues

On the several other forums where I participate, the moderators often help steer the topic back to the concerns of the OP (they "moderate"). I would guess that the gulf between the experts and the beginners on this forum is quite large; it would be easy for a beginner to be too shy or too...
  • Post in thread: Greetings from Bisbee AZ

Thanks for the welcome AZDave. Let me know if you ever drop by Bisbee.
  • Post in thread: SAN TAN SOLAR PANELS

I have not yet used one on my camper, but I have purchased 20 for myself and a couple of friends. They were the used 250w panels, both those with and without the so-called "snail trails". To date all of us are pleased. My 1KW array on my garage (no utility power) has been flawless in keeping my...
  • Post in thread: Building Your Own Lithium Batteries

The link I provided is from a vendor from whom I purchased 4 100Ah cells. I installed them in my camper and they've been flawless. They arrived well packaged and identically charged. I should also note that they are similar in appearance to the cells I found inside the RUiXU all-in-one battery.
  • Post in thread: Difficulty shopping for parts

I have had great success with AliExpress. Given that most Amazon and eBay sellers are bringing their product from China, it makes sense to see what's on offer at the source. Virtually everything I have purchased has been from AliExpress. Prices are generally lower than the incumbents and there...
  • Post in thread: MakeSkyBlue are still ripoff, beware.

I have the same unit as you, in my garage which has a 1 KW solar array and a DIY 280Ah LiFePo4 in a crate. Three years running and never a hiccup. Shoot, I even have some LED lights connected to the Load terminals, also never an issue.
  • Post in thread: I have a 100w 5.5amp solar panel with a 30 amp controller i was wondering what is a good size/amp hr battery and converter to get the most out of it?

I believe that if you watch Will Prowse's YouTube channel you'll very quickly figure out that 100Ah is possibly the most common capacity for lithium iron phosphate batteries. Whether buying a drop-in Renogy or Battle Born or assembling your own 4s battery pack (watch the videos; you'll see...
  • Post in thread: At this point... if you are buying From Alibaba/Aliexpress you deserve what you get.

Fair enough. I'll rephrase my comment to state that "Impugning the character of all vendors on AliExpress is unfair and unwarranted". We might also be advised to avoid conflating the behavior of a few bad actors at AliExpress with the bad behavior of the "(communist) government of mainland...
  • Post in thread: automatic transfer switch

The latter. Think of the switch as something like the "opposite" of grid tie. Energy your solar panels provide goes no further than the devices and the battery connected to the switch. When neither the panels nor the battery can power your devices the switch will draw house current.
  • Post in thread: Tent camping solar set up.

Minimizing your power usage is the first step to energy independence. I'm with Delmar; there are countless 12v conveniences which will make life more comfortable while saving energy. A fan that I take everywhere is this little pedestal fan with 3 speeds. It too will run all night on low and...
  • Post in thread: Solar-powered Office

Following Will's video highlighting the Moes Automatic Transfer Switch, I decided to setup my office to run on solar, utilizing a couple of older UniSolar panels and the first LiFePo4 battery pack (used K2 Energy 12v/90Ah) I built. It works beautifully, although I have to raise the bottom...
