If a battery with a BMS that is compatible with an inverter, which one does the talking? Does the battery BMS tell the inverter what all the parameters are or does the inverter tell the BMS what parameters to use?

I have two massive wall mount batteries that I would rather build a rack on wheels for them so they lay flat. Is there any problem with the wall mounts laying flat? Inside they look like they would be better designed laying flat instead of one the side.

What is the big advantage of a combiner box vs just using y adapters when running parallel? The combiner box is fused?

Or should I say SPD and breakers? What's everyones take on having an SPD between the panels and the inverter? My combiner boxes will have breakers between the two but that's not the same as surge device. What about between the inverter and the main load center?
