Time is of the essence but I wanted to get a thread out here that I can update and receive feedback on! You've seen this before, I think two other members on this forum have started threads for their CATL module builds. So I won't go into what they are too much other than to say each is 20s...
I bought 4 as well and am planning on putting them in a server cabinet. Unlike you, however, I am a complete noob to solar.
Not sure if I should start my own thread because I am a slow DIYer but I'll be following yours closely!
Here is what I have/ordered so far:
4 modules for 5x 48v packs
Tripp...
I'm one of the ones who bought the batteryhookup CATL modules. I'll update my build thread soon. This is it. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/first-system-build-thread-another-71kwh-diy.69341/
I've got the JK inverter BMS talking with the 6048s. Data manager M is sending all the data I could...
More pics!
A question for the solar panels--Should I attempt to repair the cracked vinyl? I've worked with mass-loaded-vinyl (MLV) before and I've taped the seems with special vinyl tape. Obviously that was for an indoor, behind-drywall project, so I know the tape wouldn't hold up...
Kommando, thank you so much. You've helped me a ton. I have a couple 6048us inverters and five pb2a16s20p BMS units. This thread saved me so much time and heartache, because I got communication working right away!
Anyway, I do have a couple questions, just for clarity, if you don't mind:
1...
Thank you for the knowledge.
I already do have two SMA SI-6048s, 70kw ESS and two Sunny Boy sb5.0-1sp-us-40 string inverters. I haven't updated my build thread, but I should. I've got a ton of pictures, it would just take awhile.
Updates:
I purchased two SMA Sunny Island 6048-US from ChrisFullPower here in the for sale section of the forum. I'm hopeful he didn't rip me off, although he hasn't replied to my last message nor been active on the forum since I purchased. They look to be in good condition and I never got...
You're right. I still do not want to deal with transformerless inverters. It seems cheap to not have a transformer in an inverter.
I got it confused, you are right. I was reading this link and mixed it together with PID...
I guess I should also say, they offered me a trade for a 'GoodWe A-MS Series GW7600A-MS 7.6kW' as well. This seems preposterous that I'd completely step outside an SMA system so I'll be declining that.
Edit: Just got off the phone, I have nothing bad to say about them besides their site being...
Hello,
I'm currently running wire between a Midnite E-Panel and SMA SI-6048 (along with battery). From the following instruction, it appears I am to 'bond' (connect) the inverter/battery's negative to the entire system ground. Is this correct and necessary? I did not expect to see this but I...
Would you mind explaining the advantage of this bms vs the previous model?
For instance, the previous model has canbus and can communicate with many inverters, generically, that way. What will this new offering... Offer? I'm a complete noob trying to absorb info.
Note, I understand an inverter is actually an inverter+charger in this case, but I'm not going to type the every time.
SO, for instance, from this thread https://diysolarforum.com/threads/jbd-overkill-bms-can-bus-comms-support-for-inverters.54964/
all of the following can now be sent to the...
Okay, great--that's pretty conclusive. I thought about it more like in the case of a car--the battery negative is connected to chassis ground.
I appreciate your responses!
I honestly did not know this was a thing. I had no idea what it did. Thank you for this. It is easy and I will do it now. I also have a fluke clamp meter if I need to do the amp calibration in the future....
I suspect this would mean reconfiguring the battery type in the SI as lead acid. I'd have to do research on this, as I did not delve into the lead-acid structure. Are you sure this is necessary? If BMS controls the charge, couldn't I use the BMS to request whatever I want from the inverter...
Hello,
For the SMA Sunny Island SI-6048us, the manual reads:
"The battery capacity (parameter "221.02 BatCpyNom") is to be entered as the nominal capacity for a 20 hour discharge (C20)."
I have built a 16s5p 280ah 48v battery bank. These consist of four salvaged 20s 60v CATL modules, which I...
When setting the RCV last night, I accidentally hit the "li-ion" button, which immediately applies all default parameters for lithium ion without any other confirmation. One slip and you're done.
Well, I got all the settings back to where they were before. Now bms is showing 69% charge. The...
WOW! They are all the exact same voltage! I made sure to disable charge/discharge before measuring each one. You've once again saved me a lot of time, thanks.
I think I'm going to go ahead and up the RCV again and let them continue to do their thing.
Update:
Now that I've publicly posted this, I got it working. All is not for naught, however! Hopefully this helps people in the future.
I used the very far left RJ45 connection (which I'm told is actually RS485-1):
and...
I had my RS485 wires messed up for this BMS' protocol. I googled...
