Do you have to mount you panels upside down?

Mine is simply for fun...always been fascinated by solar power and batteries and repurposing for some reason.
  • Post in thread: For Camping

Thumbs up on that… That’s how we Seperated fridge and freezer on the boat was a piece of insulation and making a separate compartment Our piss poor hack didn’t work perfectly but sure made a difference and anybody that was willing to spend a little bit of time at it and alter as needed could...
  • Post in thread: Budget charge from alternator addition to solar

This controller works. It states right in the instructions, I used it that way to test my system, and there are videos on YouTube and posts on other forums showing it. If it didnt work, I would not have included it and then continue to state as such.
  • Post in thread: Solar setup needed to run RV AC 13,500BTU

Provide some more information and see if everyone around here can figure out a system for you that would work! Need to do an energy audit and figure out exactly what your minimum needs are… To think that you can run ac for 24 hours a day is not likely possible but to think that you can have...
  • Post in thread: FAQ - what should be in it?

Not sure how to articulate this but Something that explains ALL of the things that figure into the formula of calculating the different aspects of a system...many are aware of the basics but the ones that get left out quite often such as accounting for temp in sizing controller to panels c...

Not sure how complete this is but it had the ones I needed info on. http://www.solardesigntool.com/compare-solar-panels-modules.html

  • Post in thread: Tesla batteries

Steve here...and the one saying that... Thats very fair to question and I totally understand you asking the question so I will let others respond and give direction ..especially those that have done it...as I have previously state, I haven’t played with those but I have has Chevy volt and...

I thought the first attempt was always “hello world”.
  • Post in thread: Just make your own battery...

For those that already follow this amazing guy, it’s old news but thought some might find it interesting...I sure would love to build my own batteries...not battery banks but actual battery cells. Looks like a lot of work though...
  • Post in thread: Replacing a built-in Onan generator in a Class-A

Replace you old one and get a cat. may be your most straight forward approach...farm down the the road here is looking to get rid of a couple...cats that is.
  • Post in thread: Alibaba LiFePo4 batteries

Thanks for the info… That’s awesome to hear! So shipping doesn’t end up to ridiculous as in most cases they’re already in the country?
  • Post in thread: Has anyone TRULY figured out how to put a roof rack on a high top (fiberglass) van?

I believe you should be able to install brackets that then the roof rack attaches to. The brackets have a backing plate on the inside to keep it from pulling through similar to mounts that you might find on a boat… Had the same exact kind of situation on the back of our catamaran for the...
  • Post in thread: 48v inverter

Just to to clarify I believe they’re actually 3,65 or 3.75 in a 2s2p making for a 8.3 voltage or 8.5 depending which generation it is. Two different discussions going on in the neighborhood related to your questions This discussion centered around a much smaller microwave and having...
  • Post in thread: EB questions

I think your talking about an impossibly large battery. For the sake of brevity, I’m just going to say your house is going to draw about equal amount as you engine If your talking scuba, I assume you also want air conditioning? Motor?...just enough to move it along ...on and off anchor and...

  • Post in thread: Disaster relief solar for Abaco in the Bahamas. Hurricane Dorian.

I couldn’t agree with you more but… My understanding is there isn’t much usable left Controllers/inverter/fuses/breaker/panels are going to need to be flown in as well. In cases where you can still make use of batteries on the island of course use them as the vehicles or equipment that they...
  • Post in thread: What are our reasons for going over to solar power?

In the end none of it makes a difference...humans are very self important...left and right...the earth doesn’t give hoot about me or my daughter or...some day it will shake like a wet dog and poof...gone.
  • Post in thread: Budget charge from alternator addition to solar

Just ran across this if you haven’t already seen it... ??? I may just give it a try if I get around to buying a Pwm.
  • Post in thread: Poll: Nissan Leaf vs Chrysler Pacifica vs BMW i3 Battery Packs

Oh no no no...thank you! I understand the need for the battery to fit the inverter specs...and I guess that is what I try to explain in other posts on the issue. Almost all inverters do not have a low enough cut out/cut off given the normal nominal capacities most speak of (24v,48v,...)to...
  • Post in thread: Combination Inverter/Charger or Separate Units

Are you looking for a low in the 18-19 v range instead of the usual 20-21? The only one that I am aware of is one someone around here managed to dig up made by Samlex that had a low of 19 if I recall correctly...can’t seem to find the thread at the moment...may have been in the the first draft...
  • Post in thread: Poll: Nissan Leaf vs Chrysler Pacifica vs BMW i3 Battery Packs

I think if you compare you inverters high/low voltage specs, the one that matches up best is the Nissan. The Chrysler does match the specs. With the bmw, it looks like you would lose a fair bit on the low side Nissan BMW Chrysler
  • Post in thread: Chinese manufacturer Fangpusun?

??? No experience but make that only number 2 that has a decent low voltage spec for most ev modules...in my opinion anyways! Samlex being the other.

  • Post in thread: EB questions

Yeah, and I certainly am not an expert but did install a house bank system on our boat as well as there was an existing one on it. We ran into a couple in key west, building a solar/electric cat from scratch as their research resulted in a conclusion that their is no realistic way to take an...
  • Post in thread: The shocking cost of Electricity

So you’re saying that you get charged base on the inverter size and not the panels? That’s an interesting approach! You could have 1 panel up and a 10kW inverter and get charged more than having 100 panels up and a 1 kW inverter?
