Signature Solar : I am not a business owner - nor ever would be - God bless you guys for risking your money, time and energy to get us the things we need -- BUT you are really losing "cool" points quickly trying to argue with a CUSTOMER that has done nothing but defend what you guys did for him...
HOW TO KILL A BATTERY (PART#2)
So my boss who has a PhD in Chemical Engineering went to China on business about a month ago and visited one of the largest LiFePO4 battery manufacturers in the world that we use. They gave him a very good tour and today we reciprocated their hospitality by...
So last Tuesday i was out working with the guys laying the new pipeline when one of them asked me if i knew what "this" was. "This" turned out to be (what I guess to be) a 200aH 12.8V LiFePO4 battery that consisted of 4 x 3.2.
The battery was utterly destroyed I thought.
It had been connected...
So if you are using these in a permanent setting then going bigger is fine -- BUT for anyone going mobile you want to talk to the manufacturer (not the vendor) and see what they recommend... i will tell you that the 280aH are the largest we are allowed to use in any fleet vehicle. Anything...
Great job @Will Prowse following up with them ... I kinda figured that when one of my engineers called them after your video and asked how their LiFePO4 chemistry was different then all the other LiFePO4 chemistry in the world so that it could be charged below 0/32 and at what voltage/amperage...
So we did four (4) random test of the (64) 280Ah that we got from Docan Tech // Jenny WU (China) BUT boss picked up in Houston. @Jenny Wu
282-283-282-281 Ah
Now of course being brand NEW Grade A's you expect them to be a few Ah higher when they are new but from where we sit we like this...
so this may have been answered already BUT virtually all of the 64 cells we got was very close in IR .... getting matched IR is sort of like saying getting "matched wiper blades" but I understand your concern ... as for us .. after a week of blasting the 64 280Ahs we have had no problems ... we...
You need to wakl away from that battery and dispose of it properly .. you are just waiting for an issue ... if its balloned up - its TOAST and its DANGEROUS ... I will tell you that either the battery had an internal failure (highly likely IF you are correct about the 3.71) ... OR ... more...
As you can imagine I get a tremendous amount of our battery stuff we use at work out of China. Mostly because of availability first and then prices second.
One of our lead buyers that lives in China is saying that shipping cost has increased by about 300% from last year - China to LAX and this...
So awhile back we ran across this Gentlemen @Off-Grid-Garage ... he's from Australia via Germany I think is pretty entertaining ... he has a UTUBE channel ... YES from an EE perspective some of his stuff is kinda cringe worthy -- BUT from an overall SOLAR learning experience I would have to...
Honestly - for a decade it seems - 99% of the ppl just got the batteries in -- taped them together -- hooked up some cables - and were done ... and honestly - 99% of the batteries I have I do the same thing ...and for the next decade 99.99% of people will just wrap-n-slap and be fine ... hell I...
I was probably one of the very first DOCAN users on this forum ...
I joined this forum when it was literally the WILD WEST out there in LiFePO4 land. Holy cow think about how hard it was to find both a good battery and a good company and how time consuming it was .... all of us was testing...
Steve is 100% correct .. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING .. ask questions ...
I have ordered a ton of these batteries from various suppliers and EACH time I have to make sure that I ask - and get a clear response -- ARE THEY GRADE A? If they do NOT give a clear "YES THEY ARE GRADE A".. but instead I...
Just wanted to update the new URL for DONCAN for their US side of the house ... THIS is the URL that you want to use ... 3 months now and we have not had a single issue. Also as many of you have also tested - virtually everyone of their cells tested higher (0-6Ah) higher than the 280 rating. Yes...
Of course its CLICK-BAIT -- but somehow it seemed to have worked and I got my question pretty much answered .... and actually going to say no matter what you call the thing on top (I heard the guys in the shop call them a dozen things yesterday - 11 of them pretty sure wasn't even remotely...
Oh @Will Prowse - there was allot more than just 100 EE saying that stuff ... lol ...
No actually I use several of your videos to show my new guys and interns why SAFETY is so important ... ((OMG I'm cracking myself up today !!!...))
LOOK - you take things to close to heart -- honestly who...
Hang in there @MrGreen ... it will get better .... I know its an old joke to most but for a 23 yr old girl from LAX it was new to me and i laughed so hard when I heard it from one of the old wellhands the other day ... but it sort of fits what your going thru ... let see if I can remember it...
Although the answers above about circuit breakers are 100% correct -- anything over 60A I go with physical fuses ... the reasoning is that fuses have no mechanical parts - they are typically made to extreme tolerances and those tolerances are easy to replicate by the manufacture ... so a 200A...
So I say this after having hooked up well over 25 MPP Solar systems at work ... so this is not one of those bitching for no reason type things (well it actually is) ... BUT .....
The MPP Solar is an excellent system - until its not.
Until you need customer support.
Until you try to read one...
WOW - so much has changed in the last year getting batteries from China -- and especially XUBA ...
First the outside of the box has about a roll of high tensile tape to keep it from ever opening during shipment ..
THEN when you do start to cut open the box you are met with this ... Pretty...
These are the ones that we use for work -- there is a company named Kerberos International that makes these. The great thig is that it has 2 panels on each side and then 2 panels on top ... also auto tracking -- and they use LiFePO4 batteries for everything. I think that you can go to...
1. to answer your question about why weight is important -- Stored ENERGY within specific mediums has a specific weight .. This means that overall - and depending on manufacturer - a certain 280Ah from a certain manufacturer should weigh X .. as should the 200, etc etc ... for every battery...
So boss needed (70) 280aH 3.2 LiFePO4 cells .... asked @Jenny Wu for a quote - quote came back in about an hour ... boss contacted corporate who sent a international wire - @Jenny Wu said that the wire had cleared the Hong Kong bank and that my boss could go and pick up the 70 batteries any time...
So many of the cells that I have received have had the QR code scraped off and some flimsy black stuff not even taped on very well and obviously the top of the battery was hit by a grinder/polisher to make it look new and the blue wrapping looks new ... so theoretically its really like them...
The issue will be that US manufacturing will stand around trying to figure out how to be politically correct while the Chinese companies will hit the ground running hard on making these sodium batteries ... the trick will be though especially for CATL to be able to sell the Sodium's without...
So Will seems to be using the same AC that we use for the workers trailers that we support. Our Toshiba 6000 BTUs are all running off of solar and does a great job augmenting some of the older trialers A/Cs that just doens't do what they use to do ... I had one of the guys send some photo's...
OMG - his wife cooked Egg omelets today with Bacon and BBQ Pork -- everyone went out HorseBack riding -- I stayed and asked her to show me how to make her Biscuits .... for Lunch they are doing BLTs and supper its stew -- when I left CAL 3 years ago to come out here - if someone would have told...
Good job ... personally i just elated that we are no longer having any BOTTOM Balance discussion ... I top balance one time -- then never again ... I also set my disconnect voltage range as close to 7% as i can and as high as 93% as i can ... that way i am not risking killing the battery NOR am...
