IMHO, this debate about settings is totally overblown. If the settings don’t match the manual and if there are settings that are crucial to make things work, please identify them and update software and manual. I don’t need access to calibration settings and such. Every manufacturer has these...
  • Post in thread: Metal conduit size

You can use this calculator to add different size wire. Fill < 40% will work. It will automatically bump you up to next size. https://www.southwire.com/calculator-conduit
  • Post in thread: Question for DIY battery builders

Just for reference, I paid 2518 including shipping to CA for 16x280ah grade B cells and enclosure and bms, screen, etc. This is almost 3x the capacity of 5kwh server rack batteries.
  • Post in thread: Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

I am running open-loop with my skybox right now since I have 3 different types of BMSes but the drawback I can see if and when I switch to a more advanced inverter is the ability for the inverter to get an accurate SOC unless the inverter has a great coulomb counter or shunt. It seems like a lot...
  • Post in thread: EG4 18KPV Problems and Solution

Wouldn’t it be great customer service to upgrade all the batteries before shipping out? There a no reason to use the old firmware right?
  • Post in thread: Battery bank graphs! Current sharing, cell voltages, maximum deviation and more!

I have the following batteries in my setup. 2 x EG4 Lifepower4 100Ah 1 x SOK 100Ah 1 x Custom JKBMS 280Ah I am finally starting to pull all the data for each different BMS into InfluxDB and Grafana. I just wanted to share how pleased I am with the current sharing of each battery during...
  • Post in thread: JK BMS Active Balancing

Having looked at the last few pictures, 3.3v is still in the flat region so it’s hard to say things are balanced or not. Raise the charge voltage so that each cell passes 3.45v and then we can see which cells are laggers or runners.
  • Post in thread: What to buy for bonding 1.5" LB to electrical panel?

Okay, so if I understand things, I will need a 1.5" nipple that is ~2" long, install a lock ring and then a bonding bushing and connect to the ground wire that I have.
  • Post in thread: Excess solar for EV charging - how to automate?

OpenEVSE along with the WiFi GUI controller in conjunction with MQTT offers a lot of programming. Here is an image with it all working:

Put a note: here, we updated the firmware for you and enjoy!
  • Post in thread: An Outback Skybox revival story

I’m sad to say my skybox has been out of commission for the last 3 days. The grid voltage is reporting 270vac when measurement using a multimeter is reading 250vac. After several calls to Outback, they haven’t seen this before and the engineers are stumped. Finally they agreed to send me a new...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

I got the new cable from SS and upgraded my two batteries in 2 minutes. I didn’t need to change the pack id to 0 but had to choose the correct id. The soc better synchronizes at 100% with other batteries and bms in parallel. I don’t know if I will get better cell balance but time will tell.
  • Post in thread: Interlock circuit with outside inlet for generator and inside inlet for solar?

I have something similar and might give your some inspiration. Interlocked 40A breakers via the pivot and interlocked to main panel so I can’t back feed the grid
  • Post in thread: Backfed breaker

You do need to use special tie downs for back feed breakers. Check the mfg of the panel.
  • Post in thread: JK BMS Active Balancing

Your 2nd pack is way out of balance. Suggest you start off paralleling the cells and get them all to around 3.4V
  • Post in thread: Eg4 Lifepower4 battery is ticking on start

it’s super obvious that the precharge control and timing may not be sufficient in all use cases. When using multiple packs, one can try to turn on all the breakers at the same time to engage multiple precharge circuits. This will have to be the solution for me while some will want to replace the...
  • Post in thread: Eg4 Lifepower4 battery is ticking on start

You gotta make sure the dc breaker to the inverter is turned on first like in the video I linked.
  • Post in thread: Disappointing SOK Rack Balance Issue

I'm super happy with the quick and knowledgeable response. I will try the suggestions and report back!
  • Post in thread: Top Balancing LifePo4-What's the Latest Guidance on This Subject

2A active balance in the jk bms is sufficient for 280aH cells. At 56.4 volts, the cells only deviate up to 60mA and these are grade B cells. I have graphs to prove it if you want.
  • Post in thread: Drafted my design- aiming a 4.5KW grid tie system

I like iron ridge and local rexelusa can deliver the racking material to your house to avoid shipping. Ironridge designer will also create a package with calculations to submit for permitting purposes.
  • Post in thread: Successful 200A OH service upgrade and Hybrid inverter connection

Yes, I have a previous PGE NEM2.0 export agreement but I cap the solar exports to ~4KW which was the size of my original DC solar system. I am on EV2A pricing so I set TOU to self supply the entire house by installing a CT upstream so the Skybox can cover the entire house from 4-12PM. In this...
  • Post in thread: Poor Man's remote server rack battery monitor

I had contemplated setting up fancy ESP32, raspberry pi and other graphing software to monitor the two types of batteries I have in my bank: EG4 Lifepower and SOK server rack battery. I mainly use a Mac for my work and the only windows environment I have is virtualized on a rack so I couldn't...
  • Post in thread: UK Using 3 Fogstar 5.12kWh Energy Server Rack Batteries, cant keep them in sync

If you have cell level monitoring, all I care is that all my batteries make it to 3.5V per cell even though I have 3 different BMSes in my setup. The reported soc can spread 7-10%
  • Post in thread: Eg4 Lifepower4 battery is ticking on start

To get a better BMS, I would order the SOK knowing what I know today but the 2 eg4 batteries have been working for my inverter. I just need to document the shutdown and startup procedure a little better for someone else that may come across my system in the future.

  • Post in thread: EG4 Lifepower4 48V Top Balancing Firmware.

Alright. I’m waiting for my new cable to be delivered.
  • Post in thread: Eg4 Lifepower4 battery is ticking on start

That is most likely the scenario but I have not seen the evidence to support that as well. Could someone just put a multimeter on the input and see what the voltage rises to? It would also be good for Richard to detail what they found as the reason and what they changed in firmware to address...
  • Post in thread: Moving hots and neutrals to critical loads panel question

I have a backup loads panel right beside each other and initially I started to locat the neutrals but it was a big mess. I even found some common neutral between two phases so there was no way to move those cleanly. In theory a small awg neutral wire between the two panels would have acted the...
  • Post in thread: Franklin WH battery efficiency question

I've looked a a month's worth data with my Outback skybox that is currently doing peak shaving meaning i'm supplying all my house demands from 3pm to 12pm (PGE EV2A TOU) and i've set lower discharge limit of 20% out of 300Ah that is available. Some days it will drain to 20% by 11:30 at night and...
