Thank you OP for posting and having to endure every comment you will receive about how someone else would do it differently. These cases for us try to learn from are incredibly valuable to all of us and it is a huge contribution of you to share it. All of our builds have something criticizeable...
Adding this to the biggest crimp vs crimp and solder thread we have:
I met an aerospace lug engineer the other day in the airport and I asked him what the verdict is.
So to settle the debate once and for all, his answer is: "(inhale) Well it depends..."
Their letter is quite reasonably open to this in fact being a standalone system.
Given their reasonableness, I would be upfront and provide them an exact diagram of the install, with the details of the unit. The unit is designed not to be able to backfeed, but there is always the chance that...
As usual, matt farrell is being deliberately misleading for views.
The result is not "vertical mounting is better than angled".
The result is "pvwatts says vertical mounting should suck, but it actually sucks slightly less than expected, in a computer model".
Angled mounting will still vastly...
It is very inefficient at driving a single zone, like if we only want to use the 9k bedroom head at night. It has to pump to all zones at all the time so my guess the cause is all the heat radiating out the top of the other units even though they're off. For just heating the bedroom it's barely...
I was so torn I decided to buy one server rack as my first 48v battery to play with.
Pretty instantly I found I am completely unsatisfied with not having total control over BMS settings and functionality, and that settled it. I am assembling the parts to set up my own contactor BMS on the 16s...
I believe both reported fires share a suspicion of a lack of separator.
I'm taking all three conclusions:
1. Class T Fuses
2. Cells in metal boxes
3. 5 side FR4 separation
I've called a good forum like a training ground before, where less experienced users get to practice answering and more experienced users get to correct their answers. It's the wrong answers and the corrections and the debates where everybody learns something. Forums that shame incorrect answers...
It's easier to run panel DC over long distances since it is not adversely affected by voltage drop except for the watts lost. And since you can run panels at 300v+ then you can use smaller wire, only 10 or 12 awg pairs per string of panels.
I really enjoyed finally getting to use my $20 wrench when I got to the end of my build. Tape works, but I can confidently drop this thing on my bus bars.
I completely disagree. The grid is our greatest achievement and our society is dependent on it. If there was a demise of the grid, it would be hand in hand with the demise of civilization.
A bunch of little standalone chinese boxes do not make a more resilient or efficient system. What do you...
Do you have separators between the cells? I normally try not to press concern on others, but in light of build issues that have come up in the community, I think peer pressuring for separation is warranted nowadays.
This is the typical state of a Midnite from the best condition DC solar trailers I've seen, with the other half of them being a lot worse than this.
Imo whatever weathering condition causes that kind of dust pattern implies a real bad condition for any stationary purpose hardware. That's...
We know that the gases given off by a venting lifepo4 are flammable. We know that a buildup of flammable gas in a room sized area can be explosive when it reaches the right air to fuel ratio and then encounters an ignition source.
I think you guys are too quick to dismiss the possibility that a...
A lot of effort is made to get the charger to stop in time, through voltage settings and comms, same with the load.
When that fails the BMS cuts off the power by FETs or by Contactors. They are a last resort, a safety switch. Your BMS has built in FETs. FETs have a magic ability to reverse...
You say this like that's helpful. I really doubt SS or any online solar dealer wants to be paid in cash.
I'm guessing we're missing some back story here about either an odd shipping or payment request. Otherwise you just fill your cart and pay with a card they don't go around canceling orders...
