I got twelve years out of my lead acid. Going to spend twice as much, 12 years later, on new lithium. 4k cycles would be about ten years, 8k about twenty. If I could get ones that are still very usable after ten years, that would be great.
I just saw an article the other day that said the solar panel market is flooded, manufacturers are sitting on more panels than ever, panels they can't seem to sell and prices are likely to keep dropping. Hope this is true.
They're over three hundred pounds each. I wouldn't trust manufacturers mounting brackets alone. So far I've only seen them displayed as for mounting against the wall, while still resting on the floor. You could just use a couple shelf mounting brackets under the batteries, then use the brackets...
Are there really thousands of cycles difference between batteries or is it just marketing bs? I'm seeing some server rack batteries with 4000 cycle life, up to 7000+ cycle life at the same DOD% and C rate, and then the new eg4 power pros listed as high as 8000 cycles, and yet they're one of the...
This means don't discharge faster than 20% of my total battery bank AH, right? So, if I need to discharge faster, it's best to buy more batteries? and the cost of more would be offset by the total bank lasting longer?
I haven't received much help and the answers I have received didn't leave me feeling very confident. I've called three different companies. They all basically told me I need to figure it out and then call them back to tell them what I want to buy. I was really hoping the company I'm planning to...
Hi, I'm very new to this stuff and I don't mean to detract your thread, but hoping you could tell me how you made this diagram? I assume it's a specific program, as I've seen many people have made diagrams that look like this. I would also like to make a diagram to ask questions about my setup...
Thank you, I think I understand it. I'm looking at probably replacing my system with Victron stuff, probably going to get the SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/200. It says max input voltage of 450V, so wiring up for 374V max, with a max low temperature at say -5*C would be a max of input of about 419V...
Very nice. I'm looking at doing something almost identical to your system. I'm still not sure whether to go with the Quattro or MultiPlus2. Did you consider at all going with the MultiPlus2 5kVA? Obviously you would need 4 to match the power of the 2 Quattro 10kVA units. The MultiPlus2 would use...
Thank you. I am pretty certain at this point that I will be going with Victron, I like the UI and understand that I need a transformer based inverter system, plus the longevity seems top notch. However, the choices in batteries has me overwhelmed, and I'm pretty indecisive to begin with, as I...
Ok, agreed, I don't need or want to do that, I just want to be able to have one tablet near my system and another in the house, and other places, and just be able to see the status of my system on every tablet at the same time. That's possible?
Wow, that's good to know, thank you.
So, to be safe, when setting up a system, use the highest values on the panels, regarding voltage and amperage?
In the photo below, is the Voc temp coefficient the value "Tolerance: 0/+3%?"
I was referring to Zero Celsius, that's about as cold as it gets...
Are there differences in "speed" between different LiFePO4 batteries?
I believe the Victron inverters are low frequency.
What about when you don't have batteries, or you're not really using them, but instead pulling straight from the panels to the inverters to the house? (that is possible...
Does the size of the transformer in the inverter have anything to do with it? I've watched videos where many people have commented on the "massive" size of the transformer in the Victron units, and I've seen teardowns of other brands' inverters that have very small or non existent copper coils...
I'm a total novice regarding this stiff. My question/title assumes that's what's happening. I've read many posts on "flickering led lights," but none have really helped me understand the issue.
I have a ~ten year old outback system, don't have the model number atm, if that matters. Two...
Do manufacturers specify fully charging batteries cause degradation? I haven't seen that, though I think I heard it said for electric vehicle batteries. Is it best for longevity, to not charge up to 100%?
Have you been completely off grid the last six years?
What exactly do you mean by low stress? The rate of discharge? The depth of discharge? Even though most brands say not to go beyond 80% DOD, is it much better on the batteries to only go down, say 50% or 25%? Would it actually be better...
It sounds like you're saying C rate has the greatest effect? And so it's best to size the system correctly in order to keep the C rate very low at all times?
Thank you for your response. I'm trying to understand it. I'm assuming voltage increases gradually as the sun is shining closer to the panels...or isn't at as extreme of an angle, in other words, in the middle of the day......and isn't at max voltage on the panels the moment the sun hits them in...
I was thinking of purchasing everything from current connected. From what they sell, I was thinking SOK or EG4. Unfortunately they are now sold out of the $1100 SOK batteries until June. I don't want to wait that long, as my current batteries are basically worthless, and I'm running off a...
Are you saying you can only control on one tablet/computer at a time? Is it that you have to login to your account to check status or make changes, and if you want to do it on another tablet/computer, then you first have to log out of the first one, to then log into another?
I haven't gotten it yet, but plan to get Victron stuff and of course the cerbo, but the screens they sell are pretty small. I want to use tablets instead. Plus, I've been told you can't run the Victron screen as far as I need to, which is about 200ft. away from my system. I would like to have a...
