  • Post in thread: I can't find a suitable BMS for a large LifePO4 prismatic 48v bank

I use a batrium on two strings (560ah) and will be upgrading to 4 strings total (1120ah). I already have the additional blockmons and my second set of batteries are at customs. I use a shunt trip breaker, but you could use one or more contactors. There is some victron integration, but not sure...
  • Post in thread: New eve different from old eve

I finally got my other two strings hooked up. I have 32 cells from Basen (Emily) from around Feb and 32 from Qishou (Amy) from around May. The posts are not in the same place. The posts on the newer cells are farther apart. Both have "eye" shape posts and qr codes match eve. It doesn't matter...
  • Post in thread: Help with 128 batteries each one is 280ah, and want to configure for 48v system.

I'm not sure what you mean. I used to have a 24 volt lead acid system and moved to 48 volt lifepo4. I ended up completely rewiring the dc side and still have to rewire the AC side. It's still in transition. So here are the old 24v inverters with new buses for the newer setup plus batrium. Those...
  • Post in thread: Schneider Conext XW Pro 6848

I use NAWS if I can. I’ve had real good support from them plus they have a forum which has helped out. I think there is probably more people with XW on that forum than here. I’ve used alte too and they were fine.
  • Post in thread: all off grid is a gamble

I've been off grid for 20 years. My last forklift battery rated for 1500 cycles (when used in a forklift) lasted 10 years. I'm not sure how really to calculate cycles for off grid. I think folks typically just use fuzzy math and say a year has 300-365 cycles. Who knows. I think people who get...
  • Post in thread: When to connect a parallel bank?

That's my theory and sounds like others have encountered the same. I had the same concerns about heat and the cells. During balance the post gets warm but not hot. I sent some email to batrium so maybe they have some ideas. Otherwise I think I'll drop the bypass temp limit some.
  • Post in thread: I can't find a suitable BMS for a large LifePO4 prismatic 48v bank

I think you have a design question. If you have contactors on each string and shutdown a string for whatever reason and still use the other strings, your strings will then not be balanced. If you add back that string and voltages are not close, you may have fireworks. If you add back the string...
  • Post in thread: Santan solar deal

These are 69x40. My 285's are 77x39. I have 20 on two racks. Replacing would be ~34 sq feet less and 1700w (30%) more. Tempted..
  • Post in thread: Top Balancing a large bank

I'm only doing 32, but my plan was to make two strings of 16s with bms on each string. Making sure that the BMS high volt cut out actually works before hand(test it on a lower voltage). Then try to use an 18a 48v plug in charger to charge each string until the bms cuts out (3.6v). If that is...
  • Post in thread: Adding new batteries to older batteries

If they start at 100 SOC, when the 230AH battery is at 20% SoC (.20*230=46AH remaining), the 280 AH will have (280-(230*.80))=96 AH remaining and will be at 96/280=34% SoC. If you are running the 230AH to 0% SoC, then at that point there will be (280-230)=50AH left in the 280AH battery. So 50 AH...
  • Post in thread: 410' wire run

I don't know of a charge controller that will do an entire 15.7KW array. You will probably need 2-3 of the SE MPPT 100 or Midnite solar's Hawks Bay or similar model.
  • Post in thread: Adding new batteries to older batteries

Yeah, but the lower capacity bank will determine the overall battery capacity if you are treating all the strings combined as one battery. You could have a bms on each string and have the 230 ah string cut out when it's SoC approaches zero, but that opens up a whole can of worms. IMO, don't do...
  • Post in thread: 48v LiFePO4 Battery Charger

This is the one I have. I was only going to use it for top balance. I have no other use for it. I'm doing 32 cells initially but adding another 32, if the first 32 work well. Then it will live on a shelf...
  • Post in thread: Question on small off grid cabin solar setup

I wouldn't bother with DC. Everything is just so much simpler with AC. Like for example if you want to use a toaster in the future.
  • Post in thread: When to connect a parallel bank?

So the devil is in the details. Maximum conditions from this doc state: - Shunt power with air temperature at 25ºC 3.5 W Bypass heating above 75ºC will reduce bypass current and will allow cell over-voltage. Keep well below these limits. - Shunt power with fan-forced cooling at 25ºC 7 W...
  • Post in thread: Solar Living Mindset

IIRC, a 200a service isn't really a 200a service. Google says it's 160 continuous amps. So take that into consideration. But yeah, if you want to live off grid the first thing you do is conserve. If you have no idea on the amount of power you are using, you won't be able to properly design a...
  • Post in thread: 17s, Why Not?

The SW specs are 68v, but the XW is only spec'd out to 64v. So yeah, you got to be careful because it can vary even within the same manufacturer.
  • Post in thread: Schneider InsightHome bug?

Magic smoke. They end up in some weird state where one unit feeds the other in a cycle. For me, it was always when using the generator so probably same thing when on grid. IIRC seemed to be a race condition unsolvable by software. Here's what it sounds like I went through a bunch (like 6 or 7)...
  • Post in thread: Help with 128 batteries each one is 280ah, and want to configure for 48v system.

I had to add length to the communication cable between blockmons. I have multiple strings so I had to lengthen from the M8 at the most positive side of string #1 to the m8 at the most negative side of string #2. And then from most positive m8 on string #2 back to the cmu. I just made my own...
  • Post in thread: New eve different from old eve

Maybe the question should be "Do N cells last 6000 cycles at 0.5c discharge?" I can answer this in 16 years. The posts in K cells are farther apart and the cells are ~3mm taller. Seems unlikely, but they could have had the K cells in development long enough to test them for a full 6000...
  • Post in thread: Shipping time for Lishen 280-Ah cells?

Ordered 4/23 Got the Fed ex tracking number 4/29 Fed ex tracking just went live yesterday with 7/19 set as delivery date AFAIK, They sat on the boat off the coast of California for 3 or 4 weeks.
  • Post in thread: Schneider Protocol and BMS modules

SoC control is toggled in the Battery Settings for the XWPro and option info says: SOC Control Enable "Enables state transitions and charge management based on State of Charge information (if disabled then the inverter works in voltage-based control). Requires a compatible BMS or Conext...
  • Post in thread: Schneider Conext XW Pro 6848

I used FLA for ~19 years and I'll never go back. If there is any way to work out the heat, I would do that. There are just so many more positives to having lithium like greater efficiency, smaller size/weight, higher depth of discharge limits, very little maintenance, no equalization, better...
  • Post in thread: Shipping time for Lishen 280-Ah cells?

100 bucks won't make the boat go faster or get it unloaded faster. Besides that, customs is backed up. AFAICT, these batteries are shipped on the down low. I'm not sure if airlines would even touch them if they knew what was in the box. I read somewhere that someone got an air freight quote and...
  • Post in thread: contactor vs. shunt trip breaker

I was wondering what the consensus is for either of these for off grid. Pros for contactor cheaper no hands on to close contactor Cons for contactor Uses power need precharge Pros for Shunt trip no precharge required doesn't use power for breaker to remain closed Cons for Shunt trip Need...
  • Post in thread: Don’t buy fromShawn Best on AliExpress!!!

I wish there was a topic for this. I'd put solaris-shop.com on it.
  • Post in thread: Anybody using the vinci_lv with Xanbus?

yeah, I sent them a few emails no reply. They even have an order form that essentially leads to dead web pages. I have a Batrium.
  • Post in thread: Researching the possibilities

I'm not sure the XW+ has any integration with lithium at all. The XW pro integrates with only a handful of batteries/BMS. All are proprietary units. The integration occurs in the gateway/insight and more or less replaces the SE Battmon so maybe it works with the XW+. I use one XW6848 with...
  • Post in thread: Strange cell behavior

This problem went away. It seems to happen when the bank stays below the balancing voltage for a long period. In this case about two weeks of cloudy weather with the SoC bouncing around 30-80%. Now that there is more (sun) frequent balancing, the problem has completely disappeared. I have 4...
  • Post in thread: Help with 128 batteries each one is 280ah, and want to configure for 48v system.

I used one like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/290672289467?epid=1968074413&hash=item43ad6b26bb:g:C3EAAMXQOT5Q9RPf You may have to shop around for one with larger amp rating or use two since you have two inverters. You could easily use two with the batrium (assuming you have the expansion...
