Defacto, we're all non-electricians working with voltages that could kill us. #upforit

Yes! Running the napkin math, HP mini splits will use 60-80% less energy than either propane or straight resistance heat, and about half the cooling energy of those $hit standard RV rooftop units... a no-brainer if you’re using the RV for more than a month or two out of each year, or want to go...

That's right, Capt Bill - the future is looking bright - sunny/solar bright! Products will keep getting better and cheaper, just not sure for how much more once something like this LVX is here in the states at this kind of price point. We've seen old-school inverter tech costs as well as for...

I've been spec'ing/installing these for a decade and have never seen a ceiling mount indoor unit less than 24"x24"... but plenty larger. Also OP, that factory install is impressive... *Very* nicely integrated ODU. Thanks for posting those pics! Edit: I sit corrected, Mitsu makes one marketed...

No, though the implication seemed to be it’s not imminent.

Thx guys. Is overall cost comparable? Noticed there's an Ebay seller as well with them too, though not sure if they're US-based or just drop shipping from Taiwan... Also, if anyone has more feedback with how these are handling inductive loads, I'd love to hear it. This RV has two 2-ton AC...

Think the LVX6048 can take generator input when configured in non-export mode? Read most of the manual and only mention of generator is in the troubleshooting section... can't help but wonder if that was a mistake copy/paste, or if the unit is "indifferent" to it. As I decide between the two...

135W is reasonable... Been running a Wemo kWh monitor on my circa 2004 kitchen fridge with front water/ice, and it averages 160W despite having never cleaned the condenser coils and being on an outside wall in our warm Texas climate. Nice work tho, @Lt.Dan! Curious what your daily kWh use is...
  • Post in thread: New Renogy IP67 50A DC-DC Converter w/MPPT, and Add Renogy 1 for $1 - ends today!

For some time, RedArc has more or less held the dual-battery overlanding/boondocking crowd captive with its best-in-class, i.e. smaller/sealed DC-DC chargers w/MPPT, tho apparently many of which have been out of stock a while anyway. With little fanfare, Renogy just released a 50A product with...
  • Post in thread: Hello from Austin

Nice!! Love Elgin and RR. I’ve done a 100kW conceptual PV design for an equine therapy ranch off Albert Voelker out there... which led to an 8kW grid-tie system I designed and installed on my North Austin home. Won a couple mil to add a 400kW system for a university in Arlington ;) in 2010. One...

No worries, just meant I'd expect you to see your daily usage drop measurably. In my experience, avg fridge run time was approx. 50%. So mine was pulling ~2kWh daily. If you're saving 60-75% and assuming same run time, you'll be down 5-6kWh avg. daily consumption - substantial!

Only 700W?! Nice!!! If you can measure inside supply/return temps and RH, could also calculate output for ya.

Heya, OP... any thoughts on your build after you've had a few months and hopefully cycles on it? I'm looking at building something similar for an overlanding build, but fear height might be a bit tight... on the other hand, really like how durable/isolated the BMS looks on these SFK setups...

Great data, @Lt.Dan For reference, mind sharing what model AC units you have? Rule of thumb for all HVAC is 2-3% power draw diff per degree lift (approx OAT minus SAT), so that tracks pretty well with your “as high as 1800W” comment. Per AHRI/ASHRAE, design OAT is 95F, aka point where units...

Oh of course, 24x24” cassettes make perfect sense! Yes esp. with the slide outs and limited wall space. I’ve spec’d ‘em for supplemental cooling in research settings where some prof brings in a half million dollar whatever it is heat maker and then says the HVAC isn’t working..? I do recall...

So in a nutshell we're looking at $1150 directly via Peggy, or $1500 w/tax via Ian (through either watts247 or Ebay). 30% more for peace of mind works for some folks, but by the math, that would necessitate a >30% failure rate, and in just first year, to justify the "dollars and sense" of going...
  • Post in thread: MPP-Solar LVX-6048

Peggy confirmed surge rating of 12kW for 5 seconds, though not xformer type per post above yours. While she implied it was available for order, she was emphatic that it was not yet UL approved so would be highly illegal for power export duty. Looks like we’ll be going with the LV6548 for the...

Just messaged manufacturer about starting a group buy on these. These have been coming via air freight DHL, so awkward arrows to rando shipping vessel pictures need not apply. ;)
  • Post in thread: Purchase LV6548

Yikes... the parts shortages make sense. Otherwise, had read today Taiwanese options were approx. $1150 ea shipped, vs. $1500 w/tax for domestic options. I know local support is important to many, but unless failure rates approach the 30% difference in cost (I've not read of any failures)...

That's a great idea... I'll shoot her an email and see what she thinks.

Amazing build! First, I only read the first/last several pages, but can you share location in which you'll be running? Buddy and I are retrofitting a 40' he just acquired, and as a purveyor of ductless mini split tech, I'm curious how simple it might be to retrofit a unit for him. He's pulling...
