  • Post in thread: DC DIN rail breaker up in smoke and now looking for replacement

I am not going to use these ferrules in the replacement breaker. I just made a new end with a short piece of the same wire I had laying around. Put on a new ferrule and tightened it down on the old breaker using one of the good connection points. I cranked it down as hard as I could using a...
  • Post in thread: Victron BMV-712 and SmartShunt update

Victron has released a beta firmware which will now log 45 days worth of data in the trends tab. This was the biggest thing missing with this device and finally makes it worth the money. No more loosing data when you leave the app or having to necessarily purchase a GX device or a raspberry pi...
  • Post in thread: SOK won’t fit, now what??

Re-wire your RV’s battery and put it in a storage compartment or under a bed/couch and get it out of the elements. The ONLY reason to have a battery on the tongue in the first place was because of the gassing that occurs with Lead Acid. Re-wiring will be a simple project and is the only...
  • Post in thread: How much life is really left in these used cells??

1/4 the price and 80%+ capacity, so how exactly did you go wrong? You should get many years of service off of those. I’m sure there are a lot of people that would love to have a 48v system with over 9Kwh for around $900, including myself.
  • Post in thread: It's "loses", not "looses" (and other grammar lessons)

Their probably just unaware of the affect they're words wood have on us. Its no big deal and we should just except it. I wouldn't altar a single word. They've been served there just deserts, and I would of maid the same mistake. Let sleeping dogs lay. They probably never past English class...
  • Post in thread: Biden Energy Sec claims Solar Panels 30% Price Reduction

Yes, having an inflationary economy by THIS administration to get a tax credit sure does sound effective. You are probably one of those people that have no problem paying higher interest rates on your mortgage and claiming that you get more in tax deductions so it’s a good thing. Paying out...
  • Post in thread: Basic setup but no need for more ATM

Just finished installing a basic system in my Grand Design 337RLS. I have basic needs and didn't need a $10,000 system with a bunch of Battle Born batteries. My system consists of the following components for a 12V system. 1-206Ah 12V SOK Battery * 3-200 Watt Rich Solar 12V PV panels...
  • Post in thread: DC DIN rail breaker up in smoke and now looking for replacement

Thought I would upload a few more pictures. All the heat was concentrated at the terminal connection indicating a short and arcing at that point, resulting in the point of failure. The breaker itself looks fine. Not sure how or why the power was terminated but I’m glad that it was. Luckily...
  • Post in thread: Creating a portable RV solar system

Design a system that can be easily mounted on a piece of plywood. This will give you the ability to remove it easily and transfer it to a different RV by simply unbolting it and disconnecting the batteries. This is what I did with my install. I can easily add additional batteries if need...
  • Post in thread: DC DIN rail breaker up in smoke and now looking for replacement

@Will Prowse, maybe you could start taking breakers, inverters, controllers, shutoff switches as well as other components apart to see what’s really inside and how they stand up. There is a reason some components are UL listed and certified and others aren’t. We need to know what components we...
  • Post in thread: SOK battery charging question

I’d say that you still have a ways to go before that battery is fully charged. The charging voltage doesn’t change much until the end of its charge (See attachment). As long as it’s putting in the 10 amps then I’d say you’re good. Just let it keep going. Bigger charger will just give you...
  • Post in thread: DC DIN rail breaker up in smoke and now looking for replacement

After removing all the ferrules and connecting everything together again using the bare wire, I couldn’t be happier! Previously, I used to get a pretty big drift between what the victron SCC stated as battery voltage and what the SmartShunt said the battery voltage was. Many times my battery...
  • Post in thread: Best system for RV

I went from living in a 2400sf home down to full time living in a 400+sf 5th wheel RV and have come to appreciate living without so much stuff. I have seen many people purchase large battery banks and solar arrays and yet see them always use shore power and hardly ever use the $10,000 worth of...
  • Post in thread: Upgrade LiFePO4 BMS to "Manageable"

@50ShadesOfDirt You couldn’t have said it any better. It’s definitely a feature that I would want and would pay extra for. Love the battery as is but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be better. @SOK-MIN Its not an insult to you or your company. Simply a request for a future upgrade.
  • Post in thread: DC DIN rail breaker up in smoke and now looking for replacement

I truly believe it was user error (bad crimp/loose connection) and not equipment error. I’d stick with that brand of breaker personally. It did it’s job well. No need to use ferrule with a compression connection such as the ones on this breaker. Just monitor everything closely and periodically.
  • Post in thread: I have fried 2 charge controllers! Please help!!

Split up the panels and use two charge controllers. That way when you toast the next one, you will still be able to have some charge going to your batteries. Actually, you’ll probably have more than enough with half those panels considering your battery capacity.
  • Post in thread: SOK Troubles (user error)

It appears that this could have happened with virtually any battery. The issue was with the cheap SCC that was probably used from what it sounds. I can see why SOK doesn’t stand behind it but it is a shame that they don’t. I’d be very dissatisfied as well. I really didn’t know that it could...
  • Post in thread: Installing LiFePo4 cells on the narrow side

Battle Born also uses a completely different kind of cell in their batteries so that’s not a fair comparison.
  • Post in thread: SOK Battery speedy delivery!

Ordered a 206Ah SOK on June 16th. It arrived on the 25th! I haven’t been able to charge it or test it but I’m looking forward to it! Min was great with my questions but I do wish they would put a Q&A on their website. They would probably sell more batteries if they address all the simple...
  • Post in thread: Mini-system for driveway entrance lights

    - A 60 Watt equivalent 12V bulb is approx 9 Watts maybe less but I’m being optimistic - 2 bulbs = 18 Watts - 18 * 12 hours a night max = 216 Watt hours - 216Wh / 12.8V nominal = 16.88 Ah - You will need a minimum of a 50Ah led acid battery but I would at least double that size and go with a...
  • Post in thread: DC DIN rail breaker up in smoke and now looking for replacement

Ferrules are pretty solid and not as thin walled as others I’ve seen. Takes a lot of force but I can see a slight rectangular look when looking straight down. I’m not saying I couldn’t have tightened them tighter and I’m more inclined to believe that they could have been tightened tighter but...
