A cutoff wheel in a pinch but @TCgreg is pointing to the proper tool.

I'd space with a piece of 1/16 or 1/8 aluminum angle between till secured then move the spacer to the next.
  • Post in thread: Wire Sizing For AC Outlets

Not quite! The circuit's smallest wire gauge determines the breaker rating. New work: You must look at the entire circuit & calculate the amperage requirement for all appliances. Now run the appropriate gauge wire & attach to an appropriately rated breaker. Remodeling: Determine the circuit...
  • Post in thread: Lathe motor won’t turn over on solar

You might see an improvement using an Easy Start device. They are pricy but very effective, it can lower surge current by as much as 70%. I'm a very satisfied customer I can start & run a 15K RV AC unit on a EU2200Si Honda in ECO mode, with other minimal loads running.

I added bolded info to my quote to provide more clarity, especially for new comers on down the road.
  • Post in thread: Shunt usage for two displays

I would say a finer resolution ie. more mv deviation per amp. A 100mv 100 amp shunt is 1:1, a 50mv 100 amp shunt is 0.5:1. The resistive material the shunt uses is more related to its accuracy than its mv rating.
  • Post in thread: Fitting 200ah of LFP into an 'L' shaped moulded boat battery box

In a series string 1 differing link will be easily tolerated. Differing parallel inter-conecting cable lengths are what to avoid.
  • Post in thread: Large battery bank doesn't seem to hold a charge

If you have access to each cell (a true wet lead acid battery) get a real hydrometer with the three glass float made for battery maintenance. They are rather inexpensive. Then charge them up and let them rest an hour or 2, then record the specific gravity & temp for each cell. This will reveal...

First on your 12 volt fuse block, remove (erase) battery negative line & connect to the 12 volt output of your 48/12 volt converter.

  • Post in thread: 24v series wiring with 6v FLA

Not connected to a load is not a problem. To balance a flooded lead acid battery you must do an equalizing charge. (You must have access to each cell. Maintenance free batteries are not candidates for balancing.) Fully charge the battery. Test each cell for specific gravity Note the readings...

  • Post in thread: Newb question #11-14

If they are pre-assembled they should come with an internal BMS Yes ??? Parallel requires an even count of panels. 2, 4, 6, 8 works where 3, 5, 7 will not work or requires a second SCC due to voltage mismatch.. I'd purchase an additional panel if there is room or return one if no room for the...

  • Post in thread: So here is My DIY "Kill-A-Watt" meter

I'm afraid it is not Arduino friendly. There may be a version in my future that is though. I'll be starting a project next year to monitor PV performance with Arduino.

    Input side: 1589 @ 135.6v is 11.7 amps Output side: 1589 @ 12v = 132 amps (more than double the rating of 60 amps) 1589 @ 24v = 66 amps (still over) 1589 @ 36v = 44 amps ( :) ) 1589 @ 48v = 33.1 amps ( :) :) )

  • Post in thread: Thermostatically controlled propane heater for battery box

You buried the propane tank, I'd consider doing the same for the battery box even if indoors (beneath floor or root cellar) Then plumb up a propane line to it & install a space heater in the space & just use the pilot to heat the battery space. Even that may prove a bit excessive due to the...

Point 4: a grid supplied charger will never rest (24/7/365) charging. A SCC takes a break when the sun goes down & depending on the model can be tailored to your needs.

I believe your concern is well placed. I would prepare shoring to support the roof & stabilize the walls. Once you get the inner skin off, NO MORE DRIVING!
  • Post in thread: Is this an upgrade?

@dt1400 If you indeed swap out your inverter, I'd be interested in it. Only if you make the swap & are satisfied with the results. I assume you'd return the 2K unit if it fails to work out.
