  • Post in thread: DIY 'Chargenectifier'

For anybody working a similar use case here are some quick instructions on how to permanently change the supply voltage on the Eltek FLATPACK2 units mentioned by the OP and in #307 above. I received the three units I ordered - well packed as described. They were all set to the default voltage...
  • Post in thread: Chargeverter alternative

The chargeverter is a couple of (cheap) standard telecom 48v "rectifiers." If you want an alternative you could buy used commercial telecom power supplies and wire them yourself. I bought these Eltek flatpack2 units at $50/ea. you will need an interface board to wire to them and you will...
  • Post in thread: Where is my power going?

Rhino: this is why suggested to you set float to a bit over 56V or to at least the 55.6V spec in the manual. As I showed in the graph many BMSs won't show full charge until they have no current flowing at their specified charge voltage. Your batteries are "mostly" full and they are probably...
  • Post in thread: Schneider XW pro 6k vs. Eg4 18k - need help deciding

Here's some details on the overload capacity. Chart is L-L but spec sheet clarifies L-N for single leg is even more impressive compared to some other HV 120/240 inverters that struggle with imbalanced overload.
  • Post in thread: Midnite MNEPV breaker lockout?

There is a channel for a pin on those type of MCBs that support LOTO devices like Like these and these.. and the master lock version (which is the only one I've seen in use).
  • Post in thread: Where is my power going?

There are other resources but to quote a good post on this forum here is a good explanation of separate charge and discharge fet control https://diysolarforum.com/threads/bms-mosfets-explained.29318/. the discharge FETs remains connected when the charge FETS disconnect due to charge completion.
  • Post in thread: No grid grounding/bonding

~17.59 in the first video. The only way to make it safe is to turn it off. The only way to turn it off is to have an effective ground fault path for something that may become energized (eg metal case etc). Since you will be touching the ground and you may touch something energized if the two...
  • Post in thread: IRL Meet up? Colorado

I couldn't find any posts related to trying to get forum members together in person. Grab a beer, trade notes. If I missed a section on this point me in the right direction, thanks! Personally would be up for connecting with any folks in the central or northern front range Colorado area: any...
  • Post in thread: Suggestions for whole house off-grid system?

In the right circumstances I think we're getting close to being able to replicate the grid with less cost than the grid. Grid cost me $80K. $80K in solar and storage would buy something that doesn't look like camping. Sure the overall house has to be efficient and you have to be more...
  • Post in thread: Never mind.

I don't know how to resolve the "with some batteries" and then I don't want batteries. But yes most of the low frequency all-in-one inverters will run without batteries if there is enough sun input for the load. I've reproduced this situation for example - works fine. Welding is a very...
  • Post in thread: DIY 'Chargenectifier'

Here are some 2000watt AC/DC (input) flatpack2 units on ebay for $50 including shipping for anybody else on this journey. I just bought 3!
  • Post in thread: DIY 'Chargenectifier'

Mega Chargeverter! 8000watts for $899 if anybody is interested. I'd been looking for the Eltek Chassis and controller on the used market and here's the best deal I've seen come up on one. 2U rack with 4 2000W units and the controller in the chassis with room for 3 more. More than I want to...
  • Post in thread: DIY 'Chargenectifier'

@Dave911 same with the Eltek. There is a "live" voltage setting that doesn't persist through a shutdown and presumably doesn't write to flash and a separate voltage setting that does write to flash and actually doesn't take effect until a power cycle. For my current use I plan to set the value...
  • Post in thread: EG4-6500EX remote shutdown options?

Okay that is where my 6000EX isn't the same as the 6500EX it appears, didn't realize that. The display panel connector is the same RJ45 but I guess you are talking about these connectors? I don't have these on mine, only the RJ45 goes from the cover to the main chassis. Still even in the...
  • Post in thread: Chargeverter alternative

sorry should have been more clear. I quoted "rectifier" because that is the term the telecom industry uses for its AC to DC power supplies. I agree they are much more than just a rectifier only. That is the industry term, however, and knowing that can help somebody searching for product...
  • Post in thread: Grundfos 10 SQ07 Well Pump…Just Awesome

You are probably looking at about a "5 SQE05-180" if you know what flow rate you are after (probably 6-7 GPM)? you can use your 79ft of static head, or the full 110' depending on how your well draws down when you pump from it. That and the nominal length of pipe to a distant fixture you hope...
  • Post in thread: Small Engine Alternator to Lithium

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "an AGM" in that context. Do you mean another AGM battery between the two? The biggest problem with charging an LFP battery directly from a car alternator isn't that you will damage the LFP battery it is that the incredibly low internal resistance...
  • Post in thread: Trophy Battery Heaters Operation

This may be a bit geeky and I don't have a known problem I'm trying to solve but I curious if there are others out there with Trophy batteries that understand their heater sequence in detail. I know from the docs and discussion with Dan that they divert charging power to the heaters if the...
  • Post in thread: DIY solar hot water controller options?

Nice system! I'm pondering something similar at my new house build - you may be inspiring me. I started in solar thermal (vs PV) and still passionate about it but I am questioning whether I could more flexibly do the same thing with just PV - yes it will take more panels due to less efficiency...
  • Post in thread: Question - 400V output MPPT charge controller?

Megarevo has one for 400V battery systems. https://www.megarevopower.com/productinfo4.html There are several more commercial solutions that utilize ~400V battery systems https://oztekcorp.com/products/ - not sure if they make any All-in-ones though or just separate 400V battery inverters I do...
  • Post in thread: 50 to 100 kWh Molten Salt battery?

Here is what I believe is the only manufacturer of molten salt batteries in this smaller size (non grid scale) https://www.fzsonick.com/ They can freeze and be re-melted. RTE is decent if you are constantly charging and discharging but standby losses are "complicated." it takes 120watts to...
  • Post in thread: How to wire a DC breaker?

Old thread but I didn't see this manual mentioned and thought it might benefit those that found their way here. I'm in the camp that these non UL rated breakers scare me and I do plan to replace mine soon. MidNite/CBI can be had for not much more money in the scheme of things. Anyway though...
  • Post in thread: Liquid Desiccant (Road salt) Air Conditioner

Raw efficiency may not be tons better but there are those trying to commercialize this salt descendent cycle for its energy storage properties, or waste heat such as these guys: https://bluefrontierac.com/ research on the topic as well https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy14osti/60695.pdf
  • Post in thread: Precharge inverters

Some of the packaged batteries have it built in. I had been using a pencil and then moved on to a switched resistor and then one day had Dan who owns Trophy battery on the phone and he pointed out there is a pre-charge in their batteries that you have to press the reset button and cycle the...
  • Post in thread: Suggestions for whole house off-grid system?

Same here, I'm building a house where the default/historic option is to pull a new power line (needs to run about ~1mile) at a cost of about $80K. $80K pays for a lot of solar and batteries. But when you are building new and home values are $800K+ the $50K for solar+battery plus the rest of...
  • Post in thread: Small Engine Alternator to Lithium

Okay I understand better now. If you are using the DC/DC converter that can regulate the power draw from your alternator I'd have to agree with @Larry-Cleveland . I don't think any lead acid battery is required on the alternator side of the Dc/DC charge controller. I think the "notion" that...
  • Post in thread: Small Engine Alternator to Lithium

you right... I was thinking of the case where you pull the battery after already running.
  • Post in thread: Single phase or three phase solar pump

All of the pump manufacturer's own drives slow/soft start on purpose with no impact on warranties etc. I can't find a spec for my 4" pump and motor anywhere but the 6" and larger motors from the same manufacturer say ramp up should be set to get to 30hz in 1 second or less (page 12). There...
  • Post in thread: Deciding between Victron, Enphase and possibly Sol-ark. Input?

For the price when you say "professionally installed" I think the Schneider XW deserves a look I don't have one, I have a cheap EG4 inverter but will likely move past the Voltronic (MPP, some EG4) and Luxpower (current EG4 line) stuff when I go full scale. And just not seeing good stuff on...
  • Post in thread: Chargeverter alternative

They use CANBus. Lots of info on reverse engineering Eltek CAN protocol in this thread. Unfortunately I never saw any indication that protocol documentation is publicly available I think it is just used to communicate to their own user interface.
