Whether all the equipment was donated or discounted for product placement after install who cares. Installation like this thread plants the seed for folks looking for ideas or just curious how the equipment played well or not with each other.
My system wasn't installed by me I paid a...
Using voltage is a moving target with lfp being so linear. Now if you're having the batteries sit for a period of time with no load or charge then you could get an estimate but if you will have some sort of load/ charge happening the charts are not accurate. ;)
Am I interrupting this statement as "you get what you paid"?
Cheaper cells might be cheaper cells. Some Chinese sellers aren't so honest.
@Steve_S makes a good point of range of use. I believe to many are obsessed with having every cell exactly and perfectly match. Then freak out when they're...
If you mean not using "float" in a longterm no load situation then I agree.
For a daily use system like mine when it hits "float", which might be for a couple hours the solar is carrying the loads and batteries are taking no charge other than sitting at 13.6v unless there is a high draw that...
For those interested.
Under the circumstances of Covid-19 and the shelter in place plus having the abilty to work from wherever I may be boondocking as long as there is cell signal, it has given some extra time to do a full day of readings from bulk, absorb, float stages. This here is basically...
"All the research I done suggested bottom balancing for solar. Cell supplier also recommended it."
Think about it for a second.
If charging with solar that's always hooked up to the batteries and can charge while the sun is out and keeps the batteries at full more than not, that's top...
Here is a fairly quick read from a thesis paper.
Thermal analysis of a LiFePo4 Battery.
From the conclusion...
"We can also see, that the performance of the battery (charge/discharge capacity) barely
changes and it almost remains constant thorough the whole range of temperatures studied. The...
For new folks researching or wondering what benefits might be in using LFP, here is just 1_ PSOC (partial state of charge). Here is a typical day living off of the system, the batteries are charged by solar 99% the time throughout the year. 1,072 continuous days of boondocking is the longest...
Lots of juice just waiting to be released in lfp batteries. Having to much safety can't be bad.
Glad my cells came with individual covers and used split wire loom tubing over the copper bars connecting batteries.
Surfing the web I came across the above chart to the left from Bestgobattery I added the 12v column so a pack voltage could be seen for ease. Full explanation of their test can be seen at the link.
Immediately voltage- right after charge
3rd day- resting for three days
10th day- resting for 10...
Before getting rid of it don't be afraid to do some sort of killing the cell video and posting. Shoot it, harpoon it, charge it without a stop limit, some sort of carnage video.:eek::eek:
I've been saying this for years. In 12 more days (4/13) it will have been 4 years of fulltime living off of LFP in our 5th wheel with over 1,205 days out of 1,449 days traveling/ boondocking (no hookups) throughout the western United States. 525+ accumulate full cycles on the battery bank with...
If you think rocket stoves/ burn barrels are going to help you're delusional. How about a simple shovel and bury the crap. People are pigs and it has gotten awhole lot worse since the car/ van campers have decided to become influencers living out of something that doesn't have a bathroom and to...
I'll stick with absorb 14.1, float 13.6 five and half years down of everyday use. Five and a half or more to go? ;)
Edit: I should've added let solar carry the loads till sundown
One of the things that bother me or makes me think "no :poop:" is when reading a white paper like the one posted just some posts ago about charging and temps with the effects on the inards of the cells material. Now maybe it just me but I don’t use or would have my batteries/ cells in temps...
Or how about.....
The presumption of innocence is a legal principle that every person accused of any crime is considered innocent until proven guilty. Under the presumption of innocence, the legal burden of proof is thus on the prosecution, which must present compelling evidence to the trier of...
I hope the folks that are getting these "cheap" or "great deal" batteries are still around in a few years with hundreds of cycles on the banks to see how they really perform in the long run. I suppose with most using in a fractional C world they should hold up fairly well.
Not just this brand...
All you can do is check the connections and start there eliminating a possible issue, if there something loose check cell 1.
Did you move wires during these 2 different voltage checks?
4a (.01c) on a 280ah battery isn't really a load.
Nothing wrong with a little drift, if OP didn't get the answer they were looking for it's their responsibility to steer it back on course as the "OP" unless they're enjoying the direction it's going.
That cell really expanded and didn't pop it's blow hole.
Video time... put it in the middle of the yard and keep charging it for the blow hole venting. I haven't seen any aluminium cells overcharge/ venting videos. ;)
What are the other individual cells reading now?
All sorts of readings could help in putting system in service with periodic "check ups" readings to insure nothing goes out of whack, could something happen during a period of time in between a "check up" sure but I think there would be some sort of warning or little voice in your head speaking...
Think about this for a moment, if these cells (meaning any reseller) just lowered by 5ah and still sold them at the same price. Folks would be creaming in their tighty whiteys saying how they got an extra 1 or 2 ah out of the cells but instead the resllers claim a higher amount and folks go...

"Energy Storage
The federal tax code does not explicitly reference energy storage, so stand-alone energy storage systems do not qualify for the tax credit. However, the IRS issued Private Letter Rulings in 2013 and...
We all have choices for what poison works for us, having scarce sun has you using bottom balancing.
I'm a top balance user but sun is mostly plentiful.
I get near the bottom myself if after 3 days of poor solar with little to no solar charging. My longest is 40 days of PSOC during the winter...
Not all cells are created equal even within a production run.
What you and many other new users are seeing and calling drift is a normal reaction within the cell chemistry when charging or discharging. Cells are in flux all the time during these processes some more than others.
I just finished...
