  • Post in thread: What solar inverters will start a 240v 1hp deep well submersible pump?

I took my 1.5hp (I think its a 3 wire (has a controller)) off grid last year. 24V 6kw sungold low frequency inverter. Two 400w panels charge the battery during the day. sometimes the inverter beeps for overload but that is expected when its kicking about 10kw for a second to start the pump...
  • Post in thread: Hoymiles HYS-7.6LV-USG1 Hybrid Inverter

I'm very interested in this. Two questions: If I dont have a backup load panel, how does the wiring look just back to the main service panel. Also, I'd want to know how much programability the interface has, specifically for grid sell and battery options. I could not find any additional info...
  • Post in thread: Li Time - "after market" low temperature protection option?

I have built a storage box out of 1.5" foam board, have a 12v inkbird temp controller, and wired to two 11w RV elbow heater pads. The pads sit on either side of my two batteries and are stuck to a 12x18" aluminum flashing to disapate the heat. They turn on when the box temp gets to 40F and off...
  • Post in thread: Hoymiles HYS-7.6LV-USG1 Hybrid Inverter

I looked at the 7.6 manual and I guess the question is in the application itself and how much control I have over the parameters. Lets say I only want to discharge my bat. down to 40% at night to conserve power in an emergency. I'm also limited to how much I can sell at any one time to my...
  • Post in thread: Charge vs. Float voltage: What if MPPT only has charge?

Great! The MPPT reads about .2v higher than my inverter/charger, with the voltmeter right in the middle. I'll drop it for longevity sake.
  • Post in thread: Connecting Sol-Ark 15K Inverter to a 100 Amp Sub Panel

No expert here but 100A subpanel and a 63A Solark would overpower the panel. Its my understanding that up to 120% is allowed, so you would have to de-rate your supply breaker from the main panel for protection.
  • Post in thread: Tips to find the rafters?

Nice! I'll get me one of those. Thats basically what I saw someone do with a piece of wire but this has a much better setup
  • Post in thread: Hi guys and gals

I have the Aims 4kw system powered by 12vdc and it will run my 1.5hp deep well pump as needed for the house. I charge my 400ah 12v batteries during the day and the system is doing well.
  • Post in thread: where to buy mini split, besides amazon&ebay

I had a great experience with both ecomfort and wholesale hvac. I think they may be the 'same' place. LG 24k unit at 22 SEER. Works great with the coolbot.
  • Post in thread: replacing solar panels

This is a loaded question as we do not know your setup. Each is special. Lets assume the worst. You need to completly de-energize your inverter. That would only put voltage on the PV strings, no current. At that point you can disconnect the panels from the optimizers or just disconnect the...
  • Post in thread: 240v well pump -> offgrid

Knowing what I know now, I totally would have put a smaller (1hp) soft start pump like the SQ models. Our pump impellers went out after 19 years and we just replaced the pump with the current 1.5hp model. It takes all the juice in my 6Kw generator to start that guy when the power is off. I...
  • Post in thread: Tree Trimming Solar Production Improvements

I've got some shading from pine trees this time of year in the morning until about 930. I like that you pointed out this could be part of the tax credit... wondering if this has been done in the past?
  • Post in thread: 240v well pump -> offgrid

I just did what what you are asking about. I took my 1.5hp deep well off grid with grid backup. I have it set to prefer the batteries, and some may laugh at the 12v batteries running a 1.5hp pump, but I have no issues in 4 months. Pump only runs for about 70 seconds at a time to fill with...
  • Post in thread: Carport truss?

I would look at the wind loading as well and the rotational force that a large sail (like a solar panel) would make when the wind catches it. If it's open frame, leave a fist full of space between panels and make sure it's well anchored. If the entire frame is enclosed (like a greenhouse)...
  • Post in thread: Can someone with very little experience actually design and install a new grid tied system?

You asked for a company right? I used what is now Unbound solar in CA. Great design team, got a set of prints which I slightly modified for my dual breaker panels. I would get your utility involved FIRST as this could be a long process. Alternative is to look at your loads and install a...
  • Post in thread: What do you use to clean a sticky pollen panel?

I use the DocaPole 6-24 Foot Car Cleaning Kit, Amazon. Good and sturdy with a nice brush.
  • Post in thread: Grounding/Bonding rooftop panels and Inverter to AC panel?

I have my inverters housing and panels going to a dedicated ground rod, but only because they are on the other side of the house from my electrical panels. The inverter output goes to my panels and is also grounded/bonded at the panels from the utility. If you have access to your ground plate...
  • Post in thread: 4000 kWh usage per month

I like my little Flir that plugs into my USB C phone port. Find a neighbor and rent it to them for 50$. Do that for 6 neighbors and they just purchased it for you! update: shoot, they be 200$ now ...
  • Post in thread: When the grid goes down

While it would work, I would be cautious and install a mechanical interlock on the breaker cover of the 100A breaker to prevent you or someone from closing it with the inverter on. Most setups at the main panel have the incoming breaker and the ability to add a mechanical interlock to the upper...
  • Post in thread: Is there an easy way to clean this?

Go to a welding supply store or hardware store and in the welding area they have different metal brushes for cleaning the slag off of welds. Copper, Stainless brushes may provide the needed soft buffing depending on what the material is there.
  • Post in thread: I am making a huge surplus in solar and not even into spring properly yet. What can I use it up on living in van full time?

I agree with a crypto miner triggered to run on excess power. Maybe install a 120v outlet on the side of the van and charge EV's in a pinch?
  • Post in thread: When does Aims Inverter/Charger start charging battery?

I guess the low battery trip and low battery alarm are the same, in my case 11.5v. That seems like how the system is responding, as I know my MPPT charger is reading about .1v higher than what the battery is reading. I saw 11.8v on the MPPT and the charger kicked in to top off the battery...
  • Post in thread: Need fuse holder recommendations and bolting guidance

I've seen other postings for MEGA fuse holders and I need to upgrade my holder. Issue: The terminals are getting too hot, yes it's an inexpensive Amazon model. The other posts were more along these are the options, and I'd like to hear how people actually like their holders as far as quality...
  • Post in thread: Fortress 12K Buy one get one FREE!

I wish this was for the 8K so I dont have to run new wires to my panels 100' away!
  • Post in thread: Trying to determine well pump starting and run wattage for a future backup solution

I have a 1.5hp well pump with a 3hp controller that I run on a 6kw 24v low frequency inverter. My pump used 43% of the inverter load so it looks like 2600w running. I think you need to find out what the power requirements are for the pump to make the correct assessment. Reach out to me if you...

  • Post in thread: Installation of 16 Panels - Wind Management Caribbean. 2 Install Options

Not an expert, but if you want to limit the amount of wind under an array, why not put some blocking around it? It sounds like even at a tilt, the low end would be 8" and the high end would be about 12". Why not take some wood and make a skirt that can be removed for maintenance. Would also...
  • Post in thread: Need suggestions for keeping car battery charged

I have the same issue with my farm truck. Got this 10W panel that sticks in the window. I like it a lot and I can tell the battery is topped up because it now starts on the first turn over of the motor. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FBZZXVM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
  • Post in thread: Used Neo Solar 335W solar panels - pros/cons/opinions?

I dont with that brand, could not find a good reference online for them. I'm outside Savannah and looking at 2 or 3 for a hot water heating application.
  • Post in thread: Planning for the future - String inverters > Hybrid

I have a 13Kw solar array feeding two, 5.0 SunnyBoy grid-tied inverters. Each inverter has 3 MPPT inputs. Two inputs are strings of 8, 325W panels and one string of 4, 345w panels. Each inverter feeds an electrical panel (I have 2, 200amp panels). The two panels are tied to the same...
