My main(local) inverter right now is a Magna-Sine 2800w low frequency. I sometimes turn it off when I leave for more then 4 hours or so. Eventually my place is getting powered by a power shed(24v and 48v), I hate having inverters/gear in the house for fire safety reasons.
Anyway, came home the...
Don't be ashamed, come forwards and be honest. My system has grown and I think its time to stop on my main 12v system. I have 3 other small 12v setups. I also have a 24v system thats used in the yard for saws, etc and my well pump BUT, next system will be 48 volts. I run a Grundfos SQ softstart...
I was going to reply to another thread about long distance runs being a common challenge but I thought I would just start a new thread. Please share your long distance setup and what works.
I know there are allot of unique situations. Going forward, allot of people are moving to land and...
I have been running 5 strings of panels with 5 EPEVER Tracer BN 40a controllers. I noticed sometimes a string or two will stick at a low voltage and low current even though its in full sun. If I cover the panels, disconnect them and then reconnect it will track back to where it is expected...
I'm looking at picking up this inverter used but working fine condition. I have an MS2812 and it is rock solid. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the RD series was good or not?
I was thinking the other day, why not use some cells in parallel to increase ah capacity without having to build multiple batteries(multiple bms)?
Then it occurred to me, this could be useful if there are weaker cells in a pack since there would be a parallel neighbor to help carry the work...
I have SOK 12v 206a batts. I have a 75amp 13.8v charger I got for free many years ago. I don't know how clean it is, I have no access to a scope. It gets noisy(sound) at times and I wonder how clean its output is.
I'm hoping to use it this winter off the genny for cloudy days but I have concern...
Make a long story short, a friend ordered an Anker F3800 power station. Its basically an AIO on wheels with a 48v 3.8KWH LFP battery.
The strange part is, the SCC is very limited. It has two levels of input and two separate inputs.
First level is 11v-30v 10amps
Second level is 32v-60v 25amps...
This is just a thought thread for ideas from the collective. I'm off-grid but I know this could apply to those with hybrid setups. I've been thinking about how I am going to automate. Everything I'm doing right now is manual so its time to come up with a system that I can repair/maintain. Right...
First time ever in 8 months, I got my pack down to low voltage shut off. I have 8 SOK 12v 206ah batts all in parallel. Performance has been amazing. It seems like there is still lots of unknowns with this chemistry as far as life expectancy long term. At my use rate, they in theory would last 50...
I working on my next solar system. My current 12v will be EMP wrapped and the 24v system dedicated for the well. Next systems will be 48v. I'm looking at a 5KW ish size inverter. I'm running a 2.8KW LF inverter right now and it is plenty. The 5K will allow for things like vacuuming while...
Without looking through my old post, please take a guess what inverter(brand/type of setup) I am using and what voltage my DC is? Family of 5 and we have A/C.
We are doing great, but what is the minimum setup for making off-grid without living like savages?
I picked up a new top load washer (have since returned) and noticed massive power surging during the agitate cycle. It appears that the back and forth agitate is not done with the transmission but rather the motor being ran forward and backwards quickly. This creates a repeated power surge every...
I'm looking for 96 cells to make 6 packs (48v). I'm hoping for either 304ah or 280ah cells. Anyone ever order a pallet direct from EVE? I'm open to other options. I was going to order 2 racks(10 batts) of SOK 48v'ers but am thinking about building my own packs instead.
I have a utility 24v I use to do various things like run the well. Right now it has a large lead acid bank with about 150amp of charge controllers (victron) hooked to it. I don't cycle the batteries, they are just there to cover for clouds that might be rolling through. I don't use it unless...
I've been working on a design for months now. Anyone interested in helping me design a test build?
Goals
1 - Simplest possible (few moving parts) power from wood source while also heating water.
2 - Keep cost down
3 - Use off the shelf parts
4 - Automated
5 - reliable hours of use and easy...
This applies to off-grid setups and "earth" grounding, not chassis grounding. Not that I like to take a bath with my toaster.
I was thinking about lightning protection. The idea is to NOT ground things to earth but instead isolate from earth. The idea is to not help initiate any lightning...
I love these enclosures! Seplos Polo "stackable" battery models look really interesting. How reliable are the Seplos BMS?
I hope they are priced reasonably....
Just one wire at the SCCs. Just a precaution.
We have 6 CMEs now lined up. Might see some Auroras down south, that would be awesome. But, there is a phenomena called a bow shock that no one knows about where the earth magnetic filed gets stretched and pulled tight like a rubber band. When it...
I've had this beast inverter for years just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I'm in surplus season for solar power and am wanting to use it to heat some water. I have two elements that are around 1150w each. I have the amps available to run it just fine for at least 3-4 hours right now a day...
This may have been posted before thought maybe others would like to see it. Its pretty geeky if your into hardware level DIY. This guy builds an Arduino based SCC that looks pretty good. Probably pricer then buying new if not bulk buying but still pretty well designed from what I can see.
