Hi Guys, In regard to LiFePO4 batteries in RV's I can provide the following advice. I installed a "Vision" 100 amp Hr LiFePO4 mono cell in our caravan 4 years ago along with a Victron 75/15 Regulator, 2 x 195 watt panels, a Victron Smart Charger, and a Latronics 1500 watt inverter. Dragged the...

Ok, listen up people! Firstly the complaint that the BG-8S does "Not show correct state of charge on large cells", well I got caught out like everyone else, It's a no brainer when you see it. I, like everyone else had selected "Lipo" as my battery type figuring it was the closest thing to...

For a review on LiFePO4 in a van see my review, vibration seems to be an overrated worry, there are hundreds of thousands of various configurations of LiFePO4 batteries installed in various RV's being dragged all over the country with apparently no issues re. vibration. Just to update, I have...

Just to update, I ditched the plastic box and the foam, (couldn't fit the BMS in). Made a new tight fit plywood box with bubble wrap lining.
  • Post in thread: BMS common port vs seperate port

Maybe there should be a separate forum just for RV's, campers and caravans etc. There is a lot of chat here talking about amperages WAY higher than I would ever want or need, 100 amps from CC! in an RV?, I don't think so Tim. So anyways my system seems to be chuffing along nicely, haven't had...
  • Post in thread: To good to be true? BMS

    1. Ok, my bad, yes I did see that inverter control setup when I had a chance to read it properly. 2. ML320, and I am well aware that a LiFePO4 battery will destroy your alternator at the first set of traffic lights on warm day (and why). Even though the vehicle was already pre wired to an...

Thanks guys, but I'm in the great southern land. I actually ran a Solar lighting company for 20 years, it's just that lithium batteries (and all their foibles) weren't around back then, in fact I suspect they were just appearing when I retired about seven years ago. So I am just trying to get up...
  • Post in thread: BMS common port vs seperate port

Not true, they don't really make it clear but you have to order what you want, they actually do a lot of 250/200 units nowadays. I have a 200/50. The big problem with Daly is the lack of any sort of monitoring, you really have no idea if it is working or not most of the time. The other problem...
  • Post in thread: Questions about Solar

Ok, not sure I understand most of that. However, I think the wash up of all that is you are saying I could put another 10 panels of the same type and size on the West side of the roof and plug that string into the other two inputs of the West side inverter? (as stated by timselectric) I take it...

Oh, and for what it's worth you can't set a "Charged voltage" of of 13.65 volts in a BMV-712! Even if you type in 13.65V it will increase it to 13.7V when you click ok. It's 13.6V or 13.7V. You pays ya money and ya takes yer chances.

Ok, so Daly BMS seems to have failed (discharge is ok, but no charge). So, has anyone had any experience with these: https://tinyurl.com/5zhu83 I need a 200 amp BMS so choices seem to still be very limited. Incidentally, due to covid the van has been living in the shed (no sun) and I have been...

AU$99.00 Note you can't run both burners at full whack at the same time, Max 50% on both. Works a treat for me.

BTW, don't forget, if you are building or modifying use only dual contact power points in an RV of any sort, and don't forget to add an RCD if you don't already have one installed, better broke than dead. I also added a changeover switch.

For the record this is how I mounted the panels, not the surf rods under the roof lip, held in plastic coated spring clips.

Bit harsh! ;) Twelve months ago I couldn't even spel enginear, now I are one!
  • Post in thread: To good to be true? BMS

So the replacement BMS works fine. Since then bought a BMV-712, (wired in) 65 amp BP, and an MP 200 amp isolator switch, both? to be wired in). I have just received the 200 amps isolator and I will be wiring it in soon, I would also like to wire in the Victron 65 amp BP I purchased, but for the...

Depends on the model you order, I have a 200 amp on P and 50 amp on C, and they go up to 300 amps P and 100 amps C.

Ah, I see that listing has expired. So here's the details: Cole Hersee Model 24812 12V 225A Heavy Duty Solenoid Brand new $75.00
  • Post in thread: Oh Ohh! 56650 LiFePO4 popped caps

Ok, update. After 3 weeks of Covid back on my feet again (just), went to workshop and inspected those blown cells I was talking about above. So corrosion and some fluid now apparent around the caps of the four bad cells, binned em immediately, another life lesson learned.
  • Post in thread: Questions about Solar

Ok I never realised I could just plug another array into the second plug on the inverter, thanks.

  • Post in thread: BMS common port vs seperate port

Must be a whopper, how many panels? Specs? I don't have the room and don't want to increase weight, just updating suspension to higher ATM. I built a rig to setup new (parrallel bearing stub axles, worked a treat 8/10ths of a millimetre after tacking, going to welder for final welds next week...

    Yep, exactly. residual current Device.
  • Post in thread: Who has experience with (blue) aluminum cells in a mobile system?

Double pole GPO/Powerpoint/mains power outlet switches both the active and the neutral, because of the ground situation in a van or boat, if someone reverses the active and neutral in a plug you could still have a live outlet. Legally mandatory in Australia at least, as are double pole RCD's.
  • Post in thread: Who has experience with (blue) aluminum cells in a mobile system?

Hi LoadToad, No problems with cells, only managed one trip before lockdown, all worked great. Bought a dual induction cooktop, boiled a big pot of water from cold for 30 mins, didn't break a sweat. However, over the last couple of days I had an issue with the BMS not charging, no resolved in the...
  • Post in thread: Daly BMS Woes

Ok, long story. Just got off Skype with Daly rep, they are going to replace my faulty BMS apparently. So the full story for what it's worth. I recently purchased 4 x LiFePO4 200 amp hour prismatic cells from Shenzhen RJ Energy company cost was US$687 (AU$1,090 landed), (US$162 of that was...
  • Post in thread: To good to be true? BMS

Definitely! one of the mains complaints about Daly is that you have no idea whether the thing is working or not. However, I see Daly have some newer beefy BMS with Bluetooth and I believe even a display? I'd rather just have all Victron though.
