@timselectric Got it. Yes, it makes sense. Today as the sub-panel is fed by the main using a 240v split phase, the neutral wire in a give moment will carry current from just one of the hot wires, or L1 or L2. Does it make sense ? But once I combine L1/L2 it can have to carry current from both...
Thank you sir...... this post started as a question about a 240V dryer outlet and became a really good and nice class about panels....
Thank you again....
Why do I need that ? I have gasoline generator with the right outlet in the main panel and the right cord.
So not sure why I would need it and as @timselectric said, a male to male cord to connect inside a house outlet looks not the best/right thing to do
I just saw it on Home Depot website.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/NATURE-S-GENERATOR-Powerhouse-7-200-Watt-Electric-Switch-Solar-Generator-with-Wheels-NGPH72/322965309
Searching more info about it….
@Will Prowse You must review it LOL
Thank you everyone... you guys are experts.
So, for now have 2 homeworkes:
Learn my usage on the sub-panel so I can know exactly what Im using and have a good idea what would be best size of my solar system
Learn more about permits that I will need :-( that will be probably the bore part...
@timselectric sorry to bother you again but I was reading about the MWBC and I think I got the basic concept about it and as you said before it looks like that I don't have it between my sub panel and the house BUT going back and looking between the main-panel and the sub-panel, would not that...
As the title said. Where do you have your system installed ? Outside shed, workshop, detach garage, inside the house, attic, where ?
I just started to study about solar as Im really serious thinking to install it in my house. And I tons of questions already started to pop up on my mind. One of...
Please, correct me if Im wrong, but in my case, having 2 x 120V that are single and not split phase that also come from the same source will basically make a dryer, if for some reason in the future someone connect it into that 240v outlet, not work as it will understand that I only have 120v...
I was reading about LiFePO4 and everyone says that it is super safe.
https://blog.ecoflow.com/ca/benefits-of-lithium-iron-phosphate-batteries/
So it looks okay to have it inside the house, just take care of humidity and temperature, hot or cold, but as it would be inside the attic that is spray...
Yep, you guys are right. I tried to find more info about it and nope.. there is only 2 videos on Youtube about it. 1 from the company that sells it and 1 from a Youtuber.
So it is hard to just trust and as you said, $3000 is a lot of $$$$$$
But let see if by the end of the year if it will have...
@Bud Martin , yep, you are right... battery is a down side. The interesting part is that if you want to expand battery and buy extra ones, all those extra will be lifep04. So why not already do the main module also with lifep04 ?
But looking spec, except by the battery, it is a really...
All answers are really nice and it points me to install everything in my attic as have it inside the house is not a safety issue.
Thank you everyone, I will keep my researches and hopefully this week I will install my Emporia so I can audit my usage better.
Thank you again everyone and if...
First of all, Im super newbie in solar world, please take easy on me. Thank you....
I was reading the manual from both, specially the inverter SW 4048, and I saw that it has a kind of priority mode where it could decided the source of the power that will be used for the load. Or even better...
@timselectric
as promised, here is my sub-panel inside. It looks like the only wires coming from the main panel is the L1, L2, N and Ground. And again the breaker to disable the sub-panel is in the main panel but the original idea is to add one top main breaker (using the same 80amps that we...
You guys are PRO. I just started my research about solar and off grid after be quoted in $52k to install solar on my home. That was ridiculous.
While Im still my studies about it I will also start audit my power usage.
Btw, also TX, Dripping Springs.
Hi @Hank Waconda , not if I understood what you said. But here is what I have today in my main panel.
It is a 240V split phase for the generator breaker with the interlock. It is to be use by a Wen GN625i.
https://generatorbible.com/generators/wen/gn625i/
So it is a invert generator and I...
Tomorrow I can check the AWG of the wires going from the main to the sub panel. But sub-panel breaker is 80A and the distance between both are less than 50ft, so probably it is at least 4AWG. But I will check. I need to open the sub-panel to install a Emporia VUE any way so I can also take a...
First of all, I'm super new on this solar/inverter world. So, please, easy....
Here is my scenario that Im pretty sure that a lot of people may have something similar.
Main panel receives 240V split phase from grip.
Everything in the main panel has a 2 pole breaker (240v split phase)
Generator...
