  • Post in thread: Lowes has major tool discounts

I've been scoring deals for a couple weeks from different lowes. Check the regular tool section. Plumbing tool section. Electrical tool section. Look for the yellow tag. Some stuff is 80% off. Especially the Ideal electrical tools. Looks like lowes is switching to Klein.
  • Post in thread: Warming the batteries and stability

Could you move the batteries into the living space?
  • Post in thread: So… what’s 100 batteries in parallel do?

I thought it was funny when the super intelligent kid asks how to keep the copper plates from moving. Other kid says "what if we bolt it to a piece of wood?" They are like GENIUS!!!
  • Post in thread: 1500lbs of solar on fifth wheel roof?

With the panels extended its like the flying RV from Spaceballs.
  • Post in thread: How to know if you lost 120vac power

l find warning lights catch attention better. For example my fridge has a dumb light on constantly. I put electrical tape over it. But it also has a CHECK light when propane dies. That sucker catches attention right away.
  • Post in thread: Where are the mini splits????

Is the whole point of the forum to get the opinions of other members?
  • Post in thread: Where is off-grid utopia?

  • Post in thread: Reasons to stick with 12v?

Looking to increase battery storage and solar production on a boondocking toyhauler. Goal is to eventually run a mini split AC for a few hours a day. The trailer currently has a lot of 12v devices and its making it hard to decide if a DIY 24v battery bank would make sense once the 6v CG2...
  • Post in thread: Best battery terminal protector?

Just cleaned my terminals again. They grow the blew corrosion. Do those fiber washers work on 6v flooded deep cycle batteries? Mine on are the trailer tounge and dont have any covers. Sometimes i have a piece of foam over them. Ive read the trapped gases are a problem. But my batteries are...
  • Post in thread: Something I'm not getting about inverter idle consumption...

Good question i wonder if the idle load changes at all. I think i could test it with a wifi 120v meter and a space heater. Will see what it pulls on regular shore power. Then see what it pulls off my inverter. Then find out what my idle draw is with no load. Manual claims 1.0a for my 12v...
  • Post in thread: Building the sickest ® VAWT ever. Brilliant minds unite please!!

Crock dundee would walk up to a 1980s limo, rip off the boomerang TV antenna, and turn it into a wind turbine mate.
  • Post in thread: Building the sickest ® VAWT ever. Brilliant minds unite please!!

Nah just getting into the mood trying to rock that aussie accent. Plus i was just watching supercross and the kid who won has a heavy aussie accent. Hope your turbine ends up working.
  • Post in thread: My fridge sometimes makes a loud noise when the compreasor starts

Hopefully its something loose like theyre saying above. I see youre in Paris. Did you 12v fridge come with a converter that you plug into your AC wall outlet? Maybe at night your batteries are low and voltage sags too much when the compressor kicks on, causing a funny sound. I have a similar...
  • Post in thread: Where are the mini splits????

I made a typing mistake. Was trying to say ISNT the point of the forum to read the opinions of the other members? I never knew a PV only mini split existed. Every time i come here i learn something new.
  • Post in thread: Solar powered USB port in vehicle

These work awesome. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X3HST7V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I skimmed your thread. Like you said those 25,000 mah battery packs are lies. If you look at the specs they will give a charge rate and charge time. That spec is a little closer to...
  • Post in thread: New solar setup

Then you can swap the water heater 1440Wh for around 10Wh. On propane mine pulls 0.8a but only while the propane is heating. Takes about an hour if the water is room temp. Fridge around 1a so your 250Wh is pretty close. I use a little 500w electric heater at night in my small front bedroom...
  • Post in thread: What are you doing to save energy?

Friendly comment might look into electric blankets. We did some research years ago and decided it aint worth it. My girlfriend uses it to prewarm the bed but turns it off. I could not remember the issue and did a quick search. Found this lady. Im curious if im sleeping over a GS crossing point...
  • Post in thread: Anyone buying these 305ah envision cells?

Thanks for all the replies. Its going on a toyhauler which im told is a very rough ride compared to an RV or Van. Im DIY to the max. Hard to picture buying a premade battery. I do like the idea of a hard plastic case though.
  • Post in thread: Watt meter with bluetooth and 20a rating?

Has to do with camping. You can fill up a 5g propane tank and keep food cold for a month. Its a lot easier than dealing with gasoline and generators. I run my absorption fridge on 120v during the day if I'm home. Just to save on propane and let solar handle it. Crazy how inefficient they are...
  • Post in thread: Do 200w wind generators exist?

Thanks will check out that thread. This is a good example of when i said wind turbines seem unpredictable. You take a generator, place the shaft vertical, attach blades to make it spin, yet they produce no usable power? If its RPM related, the engineers cant adjust the shape of the blade to...
  • Post in thread: Do 200w wind generators exist?

Is also part of the physics problem that if you build it to produce power in low wind its going to explode in high wind? I picture the big windmills out in palm springs. They spin pretty slow. I imagine there is so much force its turning a generator with a lot of resistance. Do those make very...
  • Post in thread: Renogy 3000W Inverter Charger cooked my AGM batteries

I bought a 1000w renogy inverter because of the looks. They sure trick you. Just looks solid and makes me think the insides must be solid too.
  • Post in thread: Can we talk about Lead Acid Battery maintenance?

Did you have to drill out the connectors to fit over the threads? Seems like nut is not sitting flat on the connector but instead hitting the area with wire. Also by long term storage, are you saying these will only get used in an emergency maybe once a year? Unfortunately for the price...
  • Post in thread: Walmart selling Chins for $266

Looking at the graph the prices drop around September each year.
  • Post in thread: Reasons to stick with 12v?

My trailer has a furnace. One of the safety switches failed a couple years ago. I hear it click but never fires up. Need to pull out my microwave to access it. I thought about removing it completely and use the space for something else. There are 2 holes in the wall i could use to vent hot air...

  • Post in thread: More Charging Current for FLA Batteries?

I wonder how much capacity you would be losing in the campground situation. The battery will definitely take a charge. Just wont be to 100%. At some point i will pull out my fancy charger and do a test. Let my WFCO do its normal charge to 13.5v. Then hook up my other charger and see how many...

  • Post in thread: Can an inverter / generator (Honda EU200i) be modified to charge batteries directly?

I always thought that too. Its mostly from plant material on land or plankton at sea. The funny part is that you can almost consider it solar power!!! The sun shining on plants is the source of the energy. They perform photosynthesis and then die. Get buried. Then millions of years later humans...
