Spam Attacks

Could this work/help:

Every new member is moderated until X days (30? 180?) after their first post. New members can pay $y ($1, $5, $10?) to be immediately unmoderated.

Last few days were tough, and we were slammed with thousands of posts by spam profiles. Not a fun time for me and the other mods.

This morning I found a spam comment management tool that works with our forum software. It is called akismet, and it's $100 annually. I am hoping this fixes the issue! I also made a time delay for registrations coming from the same IP address.

Hoping this fixes the issue! Let's see what happens today..
I had no idea how much work this forum is for the moderators. Full time “bop a mole”.

There's something to this. Sangoma34 has been a member for something like 30 minutes and probably has 50 spam posts up so far. Make them wait 24 hours and they'll probably be on to some other way of annoying people.

I've just started reporting them and then ignoring them.

Should be fixed now. And we have some really good spam mitigation software and somehow the AI spam bots are still getting through. It's strange
I’ve been reporting them whenever I see them pop up.

My email has gotten to the point I created a rule in Outlook that anything coming from a gmail address skips the junk folder and is automatically deleted. Spam attacks on our corporate network have increased 600% since last summer.

Nevermind. Apparently this dude waited over two years before posting their first post that was spam. Patience!Untitled 2.jpg

Since I own my own mail server I just ban the country they came from :)

With the dozens of things I use on a daily basis to fight spam, I have to say a basic v3 Recaptcha during sign up goes a LONG way.

Isn't captcha dead? I thought natural language processing applied to audio captcha for the blind killed it?

Not to mention the captcha farms that cost $1 per 1000 captchas solved.

In saying that, it might be stopping the lowest hanging fruit and that might be the majority of malicious volume you're getting. But I can't count the amount of times as a legitimate user, I've flipped a chair over screaming at captchas.

THE EDGE OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT IS STILL A TRAFFIC LIGHT! FFFFFFFUUUU

edit: Just looking at the English in the titles I suspect it would be related to edufraud/fake universities
