Can Solar & Wind Fix Everything (e.g., Climate Change) with a battery break-through?

@svetz

I wholeheartedly agree that we should do more, I will go further and say we should have done more, but that is when we stray into politics and to my surprise I see a few Americans?, especially those who want to "make America great again", rooting for the US to fail in the renewable energy business. And this on a forum that is dedicated to helping each other with DIY renewable energy???

I think many of your post are great reads, you might wan to consider a different place where you have people interested in learning as well as sharing relevant information.

Actually why dont you take some action? Words are cheap.

You can start with small things:

1. Stop using any petroleum based products. This one is especially nice as i would love to see all the hypocrite libbies be dressed in leaves and branches ala cavemen style.

2. Stop eating all kinds of meat and start eating ze bugs (its good to fight climate change says "the science")
3. Stop travelling anywhere. You are emitting dangerous CO2.

While you are at it, reduce your electricity usage to about 2% of what you are using today, because only 2% comes from "renewable" resources.

I am awaiting a typical hypocritic libbie response.

PS. You can also go full action and just get rid of yourself. Because you are emitting too much carbon. To save the planet from climate change. Go be a hero!

That's hilarious, and a fantastic example of misrepresenting the truth. It is true you can spoof an AI into doing things because it keeps context of the conversation. But you could ask any human artist to draw them that way too. It's the sort of half-truth a lot of denierism has.

But, it's not what you get by default as some would have you think. It's also something any can try to validate rather than blindly accept what people want you to believe. For example....

Yep, sort of like the pictures I remember from school...
Yes now, that it has been "fixed".

What did happen did happen, I could not believe it so I tried it myself.

If you think google is giving you an unbiased search result.....well I have some ocean front property in OK for sale.....good price.

We can kiss him goodbye....plastics are a petroleum based product so with his computer monitor mouse and keyboard all very likely plastic he will stop posting online. Shame to see him go.

Oh look. Another new account from someone who got banned for constantly bothering the moderators.

Always make sure to make a couple of non-political posts in other parts of the forum first.

What electric car do you drive DingDong?

You gotta know Carl Sagan described nuclear winter as a way of saving planet. Mass depopulation and emp killing most vehicles… equipment. We will lose 90% of earth population… if total system collapse happens. The USA, Europe, and Japan have practiced population control while the rest have bred and irresponsibly reproduced in the billions.

Anyone and anything that started their agenda 2021 of mass depopulation doesn’t get my vote.
These ppl subscribed to it so they should never be trusted now. Matterof fact they need a new residence built called insane asylum. …. for them to reside in until their own demise.

These ppl have been doing things and altering our World for foods filled with poisons medicines that don’t work nor heal and pollution. They have tried and think they are rulers over us. I’m tired of them. They will not stop their agendas. When a person assaults you over and over forcing their will on others then it time to defend y-ourselves.

No one but crazies wants gmo foods especially them…star bucks ppl are ignorant shitheads - most are communist green type.

No one but crazies wants genetically altered cows…- meat.

No one but crazies wants fake meat.

No one but crazies wants mRNA vax.

No one but crazies wants to impose green taxes.

No one but crazies wants turn off all ice vehicles and go all EV when we don’t have the required infrastructure.

We want to be left alone. When a group of ppl try to force another group it usually ends bad. We are on the brink of a major depression greater than any in World history. Biden has ruined this Country intentionally. We have allowed our greatest ally to trojan horse our govt and they have gained command control..

The plan for World demise is obvious with number of billionaires that are becoming preppers and building underground shelters for long term survival. I can barely see them surviving and striving after major population reduction and they return to live above ground. Mark Zuckerberg just doesn’t appear the type to be a ruler although he worships Rulers from Ancient Rome and Greece.. However I do believe our World Population has been decreased multiple times intentionally. North-Central-South America has structures from large civilizations that disappeared. The Native Americans were called the Great Nations dwindled to nothing. Aztecs and Myans gone. Same for rest of the World. Trying to pinpoint the actual Ppl that built the pyramids is still argued over.

Just 1 example the current ppl coming across the Southern border are not the same ppl that had the smarts and purpose of building things like this.
IMG_5633.jpeg

Another example:

I heard a Saudi Prince on video ask how were we so smart as a ppl in the past history ….. when he looked around at his modern ppl living like poor degraded animals. That Prince was talking about places like Iraq being home to so many things in our science. Alchemist. Places like Egypt and pyramids - still a mystery.

Yes we have had MANY civilizations rise and fall. Hmmmm…. Right now we have ppl at work in the USA pulling the plug …..all while claiming for our own good.

It is disturbing one of the greatest political parties on the planet has its head, like an ostrich, stuck in the sand on the sand on the topic.

Not all of them of course, it's mainly just the old guard and that's understandable as a lot of their money comes from that sector. What they don't seem to get is that people aren't going to forget their betraying of America and the world as things go more and more from status quo to this sucks. Fortunately, it'll just get blamed on the leaders rather than the party.

But not all Republians are deniers. The Young Turks for example are a splinter group of Republicans that actively acknowledge climate change.
The Republican party is struggling right now, they spent so long poo-pooing climate change as a hoax and then the first question in the first primary debate was on the topic. Even with the new Republican Strategy evolving on climate change, only Trump seems to realize embracing a 180 makes them look like idiots.

Right now the 2024 election seems pretty close in the polls. I think which way it goes depends on what happens this summer.

On the one hand with El Niño ending it shouldn't be as hot as 2023, I'm sure a lot of denier sites already have posts and videos ready to post about the great hoax the first time we get a month cooler than last year (which we should be cooler than last year). That sort of relaxing that it's not real as temperatures swing back to normal could push Trump into the lead.

But, a lot of Americans live on the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, areas prone to hurricanes. The water is hotter than normal already, so it might be a big year for hurricanes. All it would take is for a number of homeowners this summer to feel the brunt of climate change to tip the scales away from the guy that took America out of the Paris Accords to limit emissions.

Crazy to think that the American presidential election might be tipped by how much Saharan dust and Mexican volcanic ash there is.

Personally, I'm hoping for a lot of hurricanes that don't make landfall. Those won't affect the election, but it would move a lot of heat off the planet. Also really hoping Natural Hydrogen isn't just a scam to confuse the issue.

And this on a forum that is dedicated to helping each other with DIY renewable energy???
It's not that the topic is controversial once you dig into it.

It's that some who can't "win" the argument resort to being rude/toxic so others
won't engage in the conversation. They're actually in the minority, but they're so
toxic it does scare people away. Understandable, people don't like conflict. But,
given the adage “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men
to do nothing" I applaud your speaking up. The image to right is from Casablanca,
just before a pivotal moment for inspector Renault... just to lighten things up ; -)

I think many of your post are great reads,
Thanks!
Mainly I'm just posting interesting things I happen to see in the news. People are busy, hopefully this helps keep them up-to-date with what's going on.

you might wan to consider a different place where you have people interested in learning as well as sharing relevant information.
As long as you put the toxic people on /ignore the discussion is fairly good. There are some that don't quite believe and they post interesting articles. Well, that and it's amusing to see a blank page go by knowing the toxic people are spending so much time and energy on posting and it's a waste of their time.

If you think google is giving you an unbiased search result.....well I have some ocean front property in OK for sale.....good price.
No one believes that. Posted on it here, some of the bias is in the way we ask questions, but more is from the search engine helpfully trying to give your what you want to see (not what you need to see).

But, if you're aware of the bias you can adjust your query to improve your research.

Yes now, that it has been "fixed".
Fixed? I bet creative people can still spoof it. But, if it's fixed now, that kinda invalidates your argument. ; -)
Kidding aside, even with fixes, their information is frequently wrong (they get it off the web after all). It's all still fairly nascent.

Where it goes wrong is when they try to make them politically correct (as in your example), or the "fixes" you mentioned - I understand the 'fixes' go in for public perception, but it also goes to "this is why we can't have nice things." They limit what the AI is capable of. I like the idea of it being able to draw the founding fathers as different races. Why shouldn't it be able to do that when any child can crayon them in any color? A lot of time when I ask questions of an AI I hit some "sensitive" wall that blocks the AI response. Then I have to keep rewording it to try and figure out what sequence of words I used triggered the block so I can reword around it. Honestly, if they're worried about the response upsetting people then they should just block all responses and give up because someone somewhere will find some way to take offense at it.

If anyone knows of one for mature people without limitations let us know, preferably with a margin of error rating for the information.

But it's also a great segue ... Keep in mind the articles I post... they can be wrong too. The problem with a lot of articles is that the authors aren't experts, they're providing their interpretations of the science. Even then, the science undoubtedly has levels of accuracy and those hardly ever get presented. That's why I like Sabine and Simon, they're scientists that happen to also be good communicators. If you see something you disagree with, do call it out!

Globalists hallucinating that the “micro-second” of humanity on Earth is mightier than galactic forces.

The climate has been changing for 4 billion years and 99.999% of those physical and climate changes occurred when humans were NOT on this planet. Humanity’s 8 billion have only been on earth for less than 200 years which represents a micro-second of the 4.5 billion years the Sun and Earth have existed.

https://www.americaoutloud.news/glo...ty-on-earth-is-mightier-than-galactic-forces/

Ronald Stein is an engineer, senior policy advisor on energy literacy for the Heartland Institute and CFACT, and co-author of the Pulitzer Prize nominated book “Clean Energy Exploitations.”

Without getting too detailed with geological explanations of the physical and climate changes to Mother Earth over the last 4.5 billion years, let’s review, in layman’s language, some of those changes against the current evaluation of the rise in temperatures during the “micro-second”, i.e., the “hockey stick” of time that current humanity has been on this planet.

To put size, time, and events in perspective, let’s look at this old planet that we’re on:

SUN: The Sun is about 109 times the diameter of Earth. The Sun weighs about 333,000 times as much as Earth. It is so large that about 1,300,000 planet Earths can fit inside of it.

AGE OF EARTH: The earth is more than 4.5 billion years old.

Earth’s age 4,500,000,000 years

Present day humanity 200 years

The current 8 billion people on this planet have been on earth for about a micro-moment of the Earth’s life!!!!

Many physical and climate changes have occurred because of the complexity of atmospheric, planetary, and galactic forces of the solar system that determine Earth’s climate and 99.999% of those changes occurred when humans were NOT on this planet.

  • GLACIAL MOVEMENTS: Glacial advances and retreats have been caused by changes in the axis of the earth in the solar system. The earth has experienced 40 or so glacial maximums throughout its history, with the most recent glacial maximum, 20,000 years ago.
  • GRAND CANYON: The Grand Canyon was developed over 12,000 years of water erosion carving out the majestic cliffs and valleys that we see today. There were no environmentalists around at that time that were concerned about the vast changes occurring to the earth’s landscape.
  • HABITABLE LAND: Today the earth is 71% ocean and 29% land. Out of this 29%, about 33% are considered uninhabitable as it is mountainous, deserts, Artic or other inhospitable environments. This means that roughly 20% of the Earth’s total surface area is habitable by humans.
  • OCEANS: The deepest part of the ocean at 36,000 feet is at the Marianas Trench located in the Pacific Ocean. To put this depth into perspective, consider that the highest point in the world is Mount Everest at 29,029 feet. The size and depth of the oceans account for 99% of the planet’s living space.
  • HUMANITY INHABITANTS: The earth population increased from 1 to 8 billion in 200 years after the discovery of oil.
  • Oil has allowed us to produce more food, provide better healthcare, generate substantial industries, and create more jobs. Oil is used to power machinery that is used in agriculture, communications, transportation, and manufacturing. This has allowed us to produce more food than ever before, which has fed a growing population. Additionally, in modern times, oil is used to produce pharmaceuticals and medical equipment that have helped to extend life expectancy and improve overall worldwide health.
  • Furthermore, the discovery of oil has led to the creation of new industries and job opportunities. The oil industry itself employs millions of people around the world, but it has also spurred the growth of other industries, such as the automobile, healthcare, electronics, and airline industries. These industries have created millions of additional jobs and have helped to drive economic growth.
  • Note: While renewables have made some strides in generating occasional electricity from inconsistent breezes and sunshine, they cannot make any of the more than 6,000 products demanded by our materialistic society that are now totally based on crude oil. Fossil fuels are essential in the production of countless products that we use in our daily lives, from tires and synthetic fibers to fertilizers and pharmaceuticals.

  • INFRASTRUCTURES: The infrastructures that exist today are vastly different from those that existed before the 1800s. In the past, infrastructure was limited and mostly rudimentary. Roads were unsealed and were often narrow and winding. Bridges were made of wood and could not carry the load of today’s traffic. Transportation was limited to horse-drawn carriages and sailing craft. Communication was slow, as it relied upon the manual carriage of written messages and was unreliable.
  • Since the 1800s, medical science has made significant advancements in the field of healthcare. Prior to the 19th century, most medical treatments were based on superstitions and folklore. However, with the advent of modern medical science, new medicines and medical facilities have been developed to help treat a variety of illnesses and diseases. Some of the most significant medical advancements since the 1800s include the discovery of antibiotics, the development of vaccines, the creation of X-rays and other imaging technologies, and the establishment of hospitals and medical schools. These advancements have helped to improve the overall health and well-being of people around the world.
  • Today, infrastructure has evolved significantly, thanks to advancements in technology and engineering. Roads are wider, smoother, and made of concrete or asphalt. Bridges are made of steel and can withstand heavy loads. Communication is instantaneous, because of modern electronic systems. Transportation has become faster and more efficient, with the invention of cars, trains, modern ocean-going ships, and airplanes.
  • CO2 LEVELS: During the Earth’s glacial advances and retreats, the CO2 levels were driven nearly entirely by temperature changes in the ocean, with the colder oceans during glacial advance sequestering huge amounts of CO2 and then expelling it during interglacial warming periods.
  • Today CO2 levels are about 420 ppm. The level at which plants stop growing and die is 150 ppm. When plants die, all life on Earth will die.
  • Today, commercial greenhouse owners control the CO2 levels up to 1000 to 1200 ppm to maximize growth rates.
  • Today, the earth is greening because of increasing CO2.
  • Today, the level of CO2 in submarines averages 3,500 ppm as submarines routinely operate with higher levels of ambient CO2 in submarines in the range of, 2000 – 5000 ppm.
  • Today, like sailors in nuclear submarines, cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS), minimum ambient CO2 concentrations are approximately 3000 ppm, but can reach values greater than 6500 ppm.
  • A MICRO MOMENT OF CLIMATE CHANGE: 200 years of the earth’s existence is a micro moment, of climate change.
  • To be exact, 200 years of the 4.5 billion-year-old planet represents only a micro-second of the total time the Earth has existed. This tiny fraction highlights just how young human civilization is in comparison to the age of this planet within the solar system that we inhabit.
  • Humanity’s 8 billion have only been on earth for less than 200 years of the 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) year old planet, that represents a microscopic proportion of the total time the Earth has existed.
The climate has been changing for 4 billion years and 99.999% of those changes occurred when humans were NOT on this planet. Thus, after putting our current “micro second” on this planet into perspective of the earth’s existence in the solar system, we might ask: How dare the political, bureaucratic, academic, and media ruling elites, who disseminate theoretical nonsense, calculated myths and outright disinformation imply that their “green” policies for humanity’s micro moment presence on this planet to change the climate are more forceful than the galactic forces of the solar system?

My personal thoughts about present day humanity’s ability to impact climate change are comparable to an individual urinating in the ocean and believing he or she can change the temperature of the ocean waters!

How dare the Globalists like Al Gore, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Pope Francis, John Kerry, and millions of zombie followers that have only been on the planet less than 80 years out of the 4.5 billion plus years of the existence of this marvelous planet, imply that their “green” policies to change the climate are more forceful than the effects of the Sun and the solar system? What mindless arrogance!

@Daddy Tanuki, Why would anyone in the "make America great again" crowd be shamed by pointing out that China is winning the energy race due to opposition from the "make America great again" crowd here? And why do you feel the need to reply to a post that wasn't directed at you?

@svetz, I will do the same, saves me wading through the nonsense., I don't have much to contribute on the subject, after all this is centuries old (settled) science. The path forward is clear and it is happening, albeit not fast enough and there is nothing I can do to speed it up.

Some one, I forgot who, asked what kind of electric car I drive, I am sorry to disappoint that your feeble attempt to public shame me failed, You don't fix AGW by yourself, it's something we do collectively. Having said that, I don't own a car, I mostly use public transport, walk, bike and occasionally I use a cab.

I use about 10kWh a day in electricity and I am looking to install my own solar system because it looks like it will save me money. Besides, I love the technology, so much to learn, it's like being a kid all over again. And yes, first hand experience will give me a slightly better insight if solar and wind are viable in combination with nuclear, IF new nuclear can compete with solar, wind and storage on costs.

I will go back to lurking, thanks again for posting Svetsz.

We are tired of being their science project and lab rats. Time to do more. Lawsuits, fines, and Prison time for them … They have went to far testing all this shit on us. They never cleared any of this shit with us. We have a Right to know.

Screwing with our food and medicine is coming up….. Trials: Nuremberg 2.0. We probably need grow some hemp to make ropes. Go green.

How did most all the billionaires make so much money during covid? Sources reported most all made money.
Stealing Trillions of dollars from govt - $5 trillion was stolen with covid ….hmmmm. We are probably taking most of it back….too. Time for the evil Batman wannabe to feel the green deal in reverse. We need to know where all their bug out holes are underground to dump wet concrete on them. The least we can do is make sure their blast doors are reinforced with extra concrete and their air vents are sealed. 7-8 billion ppl against 1%-2%

Did you actually do any research at all? Or are you making stuff up on the fly?
Do you realize that most of the "renewable tech" (Solar/Wind) and especially "battery tech" is almost entirely reliant on China? I take it you know how to do research right?

Oh look a commie who says that everyone else needs to do stuff but that his own individual actions have no impact so he doesn't have to do what hes telling others to do.

As if to prove my point. You're too broke to buy solar or an electric car so others have to.

liberal hypocrisy is always guaranteed.

Thank you for leaving voluntarily. I was about to offer you a Tesla if you would promise to use it to drive away from here.🥰🥰

Hertz CEO Steps Down after Catastrophic EV Losses

Buy Electric, lose your job?

CEO steps down after being hit with expensive EV repairs and low resale prices following purchase of 100,000 Teslas
BY ERIK SCHATZKER, DAVID WELCH, SRIDHAR NATARAJAN AND BLOOMBERG
March 16, 2024 at 10:06 AM GMT+10
Hertz Global Holdings Inc. is replacing its chief executive officer in the wake of a disastrous bet on electric vehicles that the company began unwinding in recent months.
Stephen Scherr, who ran Hertz for just over two years after three decades at Goldman SachsGroup Inc., has decided to step down, the rental-car company said late Friday in a statement. It’s replacing him with Gil West, the former chief operating officer of General Motors Co.’s Cruise robotaxi unit. West also will join the board of directors on April 1, according to the statement, which confirmed an earlier Bloomberg report.
Scherr, 59, joined Hertz several months after it emerged from bankruptcy and started making splashy wagers on electric vehicles. Under new owners Knighthead Capital Management and Certares Management, the rental company announced plans to order 100,000 vehicles from TeslaInc., sending the automaker’s market capitalization soaring past the $1 trillion mark at the time.

Those bets went awry last year, when Tesla slashed prices across its lineup to keep growing vehicle sales. This hammered the resale value of used Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers just after Hertz had added tens of thousands of those vehicles to its fleet.
By December, Hertz started selling off 20,000 electric vehicles, or about a third of its EV fleet. Germany’s Sixt SE — a leading car-renter in Europe — is taking even more drastic measures, phasing Teslas out of its fleet entirely.

Read more: https://fortune.com/2024/03/15/ceo-steps-down-prices-following-purchase-teslas/
WUWT ran a story in January this year, in which we predicted Hertz’s impairment cost for selling used EVs would likely be a lot worse than the $12,250 loss per vehicle they allowed for. Who in their right mind would want a used EV? Especially a used rental EV, which has suffered who knows what abuse?

Remember, any bump, knock or production fault can potentially turn an EV battery pack into a ticking time bomb, capable of napalming any house structure it is unlucky enough to be parked in, that is if it doesn’t BBQ the occupants of the vehicle while on the road.

I guess we’ll know for sure exactly how much Hertz lost on their disastrous EV gamble, when their final EV fire sale numbers are published.

As long as you put the toxic people on /ignore the discussion is fairly good. There are some that don't quite believe and they post interesting articles. Well, that and it's amusing to see a blank page go by knowing the toxic people are spending so much time and energy on posting and it's a waste of their time.

These Chit Chat threads are often more for the lurker than they are for the contributors ..... Just because you ignore some people doesn't mean they aren't influencing the thread .... it only serves to enhance your own perspective and creates yet another echo chamber.
