Off topic, EV vehicle opinions…

Hi, I have a 2019 base Leaf, been level one charging in the garage. I am in the process of installing solar in the garage, what are you using to (hardware) to connect the Leaf’s charge cord ? I have a eg4 6000ex inverter, output is 240/120 split phase at 27 amp. Thank you for any information you have
My current Level 1 setup is a Growatt SPF3000 LVM-ES and I use an adjustable EVSE

A Leaf plus will exceed 50kw pretty easily. I typically see 73-75kw.
Is that at home with chademo or are you doing something different? Awesome charge numbers imo!
Since you’re a leaf owner, have you looked into the CCS adapter at all?

Over the past 5 years, we’ve gone slowly from ICE to plug-in hybrid, to EV. And as of one month ago, we only have EVs. We are completely non-reliant on oil now. And the EVs are charged at home from 100% off grid solar, except one time when we went on a road trip out of state.

I think that if someone goes from ICE to EV overnight, they might not like it right away. It takes time to adjust. Our first “EV” was a plug in hybrid. This was a great way to get our feet wet. After a while we were completely sold on EVs.

That's on a Chademo DC fast charger. I think the CCS adapter is cool but its too buggy and expensive for me. Our Leaf covers all our regional travels with ease so it hasn't been much of an issue. We just use our truck for long distance towing or my wifes forester for long distance travel. Hopefully Tesla rescues the Leaf with a Chademo to Tesla (J3400) adapter in the next year or two keeping the old Leaf relevant. I'm over 30k miles now and haven't done anything other than rotate the tires. 90% of our charging is from solar at home.

Ditto, straight down the line. I sold my last hold-out ICE / RX-8 about 2-3 months ago. Both primary vehicles have been EV for almost 2 years. I live in an urban area, and I've got "Solar Powered" window stickers on my cars. Part of the reason for putting in Solar was to charge the cars. I don't really think EV is much of an adjustment unless you travel not infrequently. You ain't savin' no money if you pay to fast charge, your taking a bath in most cases, it's about twice as expensive than ICE to hit an EA or CP or EvGO.

These days I find it awkward to drive an ICE vehicle. In an ICE, when I press down on the accelerator it makes a lot of noise and doesn't seem to go anywhere. In an EV, I press down and it just goes. I'm not a lead foot but I'm so used to EVs now that driving an ICE vehicle just feels strange.

I have been trying to convince my DW that an ev for all of ourlocal trips would save ys over using the Lincoln. She doesn't like the shifter in the leaf.

Get a more powerful ICE vehicle?
My inline turbo 6 can toast most EV's from standstill. (and nearly all of them after 5-6 seconds). 3 minute "recharge" and not having to wear a coat inside during winter is extra :)

Going back and forth from my diesel F-350 to the Leaf is certainly different. The F-350 isn't going anywhere. The Leaf can't tow my 11k GVWR trailer.

It's a bit odd. It took me a while to get used to it. My wife isn't a fan at all.
I do most of the driving anyway. I told her she could take the Lincoln when she is going by heerself. Didn't sway her.

Yea, the Leaf shifter is strange. But it doesn't take long to get used to it.
The Tesla shifter is more strange. I would actually prefer the Leaf shifter than the Tesla shifter.

If you're looking for an EV, I suggest taking a look at the Chevrolet Bolt. It has 250+ miles range, fast charge CCS, all the goodies you'd expect from a modern EV. If I didn't already have a Tesla, I would get a Chevrolet Bolt in an instant because Hertz Car Sales is selling their entire fleet of EVs. The local Hertz Car Sales here in Las Vegas has more than a dozen 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV, all between 16k-25k miles for around $19,000. I went to look at several of them and they are all in perfect condition. Because they are 2023, it would not qualify for the EV tax credit (it has to be 2022 or older).

So get (certain model) Tesla. No shifter, just a drop-down menu or some such.

(don't drive drunk near the pond on your 3000 acre ranch.)

Same - there are things a 2500 Ram can do that a Kona can't.
But general trips to the City and picking up small items are fun in an EV if she lets me take it for a spin.
- I thought the "EV Grin" was from driving to the City and back knowing the car was charged from Solar dump load. ;)

The EV Grin is knowing I'll be able to park. With the F-350 crew cab long bed it's always a gamble. I get more exercise parking the F-350.
And knowing you can town the EV with the 350 if it dies, maybe the other way around since it's not a 3500. 😉.

Hopefully this stupid electric car phase will just go away, it is clear they are not wanted, and you can't make money selling them. It is no wonder so many GM dealers gave up the franchise when forced to sell this garbage.

Well, an EV Buick Enclave would be a step up from the junk 3.6L with the bicycle chain they used for a timing chain. A rubber v belt might have worked better. :ROFLMAO:

This comment is nothing but marketing, "Buick is transforming, launching the best vehicles the brand has ever had and is the fastest growing mainstream brand in 2023."

This is GM country and I can assure you that any of the GM platforms that used the 3.6L or the 2.4L Ecotec that also has numerous problems has cost GM many current and future customers.

If GM kept the 3800 and put that in the SUV crossovers, they would have gained market share substantially against any other car maker out there. I think corporate intentionally sabotaged the company.

To me EVs having sound systems to sound like ICE cars has always been odd and seemed more like an attempt to hide "car noises". I've even heard there are some that when you push the "turbo" button and all it does is make the car noise louder (no actual increase). What do you all think about EVs using speakers to sound vroom vroomish?
