Looking for the best big inverter for my van install

12vdc 🤔 ,,, Rough Math drop a zero off your watts to get your amp draw. 4000W = 400amps It isn’t quite like that, but usually a cheap conservative “quick reference”. Inverter choice considerations; Use pattern - Idle power cnsujed if you have to leave on 24/7 for appliances like a fridge...

RV Question about solar panels, controllers, and batteries

This 😁; Yup ,,, Like taking a drink from a Fire Hose; None of us were born knowing any of this, so just a process of learning & sharing experiences with others. There are 3 things in this World; 1) Things we know 2) Things we know we don’t know 3) Things we don’t know we don’t know Outta...

RV Question about solar panels, controllers, and batteries

Schematic ,,, “Pen & Paper & Photo & Post” ,,, not looking for “Professional Quality here - just a chicken scratch to begin with. FYI, this is the first post of yours on here where I actually understand your problem & why you are asking questions & that you have an Onan 😁 ,,, I feel we are...

RV Question about solar panels, controllers, and batteries

If you are able to draw a schematic of what you intend to ( or already ) have in place that can also be helpful. You could get that schematic “fleshed out” here by other members that might be more experienced with that gear. Manuals should be available online. “Go Power” ,,, I stumbled into...

RV Question about solar panels, controllers, and batteries

Small off-grid cabin system design (in reverse?)

Hey LFP are great ,,, Other than they are more complicated “BMS” & the Cold 🥶🥶. I have a remote cabin in Canada that we typically use April to November, & then I pull out my 75lb Rolls AGMs. https://rollsbattery.com/battery/s6-275agm-re/ There are a few reasons why I went AGMs & all AGMs...

RV Question about solar panels, controllers, and batteries

I have only glanced at this thread, but I think you might be mixing up some terms; Power Work Energy Time You can get meanings for those in reference to physics & electrical from the internet. I believe a solar panel sitting in the sun ,,, much like a rock gains energy from the sun. There...

    Multiple chargers?

Thanks @Les May as I had not watched that video & I learned somethings that helped “the penny drop” for me. Take Aways; Multiple chargers ( or a single ) interrogate a battery for internal Resistance not Voltage 😳 & then drop to “Float” Voltage once that Resistance is reached. Multiple...

Spinoff from house burning LFP vs AGM vs Lead Acid - Why not just run the older tried and true stuff?

Re-Reading your “setup” & if you are concerned the following are my cursory opinions; Perform a safety audit - use the forum & post your schematics & get opinions here on your system “as built” Assuming you are running Solar/Inverter/120vac (where distance is not an issue) - consider a...

Spinoff from house burning LFP vs AGM vs Lead Acid - Why not just run the older tried and true stuff?

Hi @Blakes I have many vehicle “starter batteries”. Where I am considering LFP for my Harley motorcycle, there is a zero chance I install LFP in my airplanes. There are pros & cons to all battery chemistries. I have a Van & a Remote Cabin ,,, both run AGMs ,,, mostly due to sub-freezing use...

thoughts on a tiny house on our property

Sometimes having a dual fuel source is worth it ( Propane & Falling outta the sky electrical ). 1 - 20lb propane tank holds the same energy as 116 - 100Ah LFP 12vdc batteries. Both are tanks to hold energy ,,, 1 is $30 and the other is 116 batteries ,,, both are consumables.

12v alternator: is 24v system worthwhile?

I will throw this out there fir your consideration; If your van’s alternator has the capacity & you are sticking with 12v, you could consider an inverter run by the alternator then 120vac to where your batteries are to a 120vac to 12vdc charger. 120vac wiring can “go long” runs with say 12...

I'm tired of unreliable 'all in one' systems to power my fridge!

The Victron Solar chargers & Battery Monitors that can be networked & are Bluetooth work really well together. Here is a screen shot of what they look like together on my phone; I prefer the BM 712 Smart over just a “smart shunt”. There are more capabilities for a few dollars more.

    Portable Solar Charger

For Flooded Lead Acid 🤷‍♂️; I have a Kisae 1250 installed on my van for my AGMs ,,, So no FLA experience setting it ,,, However they have a “spec” for it & with my lack of specs on the various FLA batteries I have to remotely maintain there is these parameters from Kisae 🤷‍♂️ ?; I would...

    Portable Solar Charger

Proof of Concept: So I am at my remote cabin, & connected the portable solar charger up to my hydraulic dump trailer battery; As this battery is FLA, I set the Absorption @ 14.4v. The wonderful thing about “Bluetooth” is one can perform a “drive by” check on how the maintenance charge...

    Charging 12v AGM, 12v Lithium in a 24v vehicle

Yup “Agreed” ,,, set it to LFP & it might be “Ok for AGMs” per my original post. IMO, Not all AGMs are that cheap & LFP isn’t the golden answer to every battery situation. If one has to deal with “cold” regularly 🥶🥶, a good quality AGM might be a better solution. Thread 'Rolls AGMs...

    Charging 12v AGM, 12v Lithium in a 24v vehicle

If temperature compensation is also part of the OP’s charger ,,, like my 100 | 50 noted above, it is set @ 14.7v @ 25C 😉 ,,, even a 14.6v set @ 25C can see higher voltages than 14.6 when colder than 25C. So the OP should be careful & fully understand their system. Example 15.11v when set on...

    Charging 12v AGM, 12v Lithium in a 24v vehicle

Hi @woytovich Here are my AGM settings on my Victron 100 | 50 I think that is too high of voltage for most LFP. However, if your DC2DC charger allows settings, maybe set it to LFP & that will be ok for AGM ,,, not perfect, but ok ? Have to read the manuals & know the batteries you are using.

So @HarryN asked me to post a bit about my Rolls AGM experience. I have purchased 3 sets of; Rolls AGMs “S6-275AGM-RE For a couple of Van builds & also my Off Grid Cabin. I have had great success with these 6v AGMs as a 2 battery bank in series to make up 12vdc @ 250Ah. The systems I use...

    Cost of solar

In the right situation,,, I Like Solar 😁. My “Travel Van” is practically 100% DC2DC Alternator. My “Off Grid Cabin” is 100% Solar with a gasoline generator if need be ( seldom it need be ). The real trick for me in both van & cabin is Conservation & Propane. A 20lb Propane tank holds as much...
