Neutral-Ground and Earth Ground questions for off grid camp

Not that far along just yet.

Neutral-Ground and Earth Ground questions for off grid camp

It’s my own off grid hunting camp, I’m not real concerned about getting sued. But thanks for the advice, I guess.

Neutral-Ground and Earth Ground questions for off grid camp

Generator goes into inverter 120V 3 wire Ground/Neutral/Hot. So will it get its ground from the panel as well, even though it’s the source?

Neutral-Ground and Earth Ground questions for off grid camp

Thank Ya! Any misunderstanding is on my part, I know just enough to be dangerous. I didn't know if I needed multiple grounds or not. BUT I think it does answer part of it. SO.... I should ground the building (shipping containers) to the same ground rod as the main panel, correct? the PV Array...

Neutral-Ground and Earth Ground questions for off grid camp

correct it is actually 3 containers welded together, but they are stand-alone and not connected to anything else.

Neutral-Ground and Earth Ground questions for off grid camp

Getting ready to set up my system in my off-grip shipping container camp. I'm wondering about neutral-ground bonding and earth grounding. My nverter (shipped in Nov of 22) has the bonding screw removed. I have had this equipment for a while now but I am just now getting around to...

    EG4 3KW tripping battery breaker??

UPDATE: I updated the firmware and now it works perfectly, even added an extra 60 watt load to it when I tried, hasn’t tripped the breaker yet. I have the saw plugged up and when I walk by it I give it a try, probably ran 8-10 times and it hasn’t failed.

    EG4 3KW tripping battery breaker??

AC SIDE The best I can tell on the DC SIDE, when it doesn’t trip is about 60 amps. My clamp won’t hold an in rush reading on the DC side or at least I don’t know how to set it.

    EG4 3KW tripping battery breaker??

Well I’ve done a couple of things. I ran it in bypass mode (hooked up to the grid) and it does fine, doesn’t trip the battery breaker. On battery power it starts the saw up and runs about 50% of the time, the other 50% the battery breaker trips I put a clamp meter on it and the highest I saw in...

    EG4 3KW tripping battery breaker??

It’s a 25 or so year old craftsman saw, nothing real heavy duty, not sure of the specs, I’ll have to get a clamp on amp meter.

    EG4 3KW tripping battery breaker??

I have an EG4 3KW (V2) mated to an EG4 48V LL battery. It will not run my circular saw, it is instantly throwing the battery breaker? Would you think this is normal? No other loads on it at the time. I’m figuring 20 amps with a surge at start up. Any thoughts?

About to pull the trigger on a EG4 3kW Off-Grid Inverter...any good/bad experiences you care to share since they hit the market?

Sooooo...maybe a decent approach, not the dumbest thing ever??? OR maybe I should keep working at it? Would you say, a fair investment of $4K?

Revisiting the math (AGAIN) please assist :)

Thanks for the link and suggestion and I agree...cutting it kind of close on those volts. I have a Harbor Freight 9500 Inverter Generator (7600 continuous) it is a pure sine wave. If I had it to do over I would have sprung for a similar model but with dual fuel and remote start. Panels...

About to pull the trigger on a EG4 3kW Off-Grid Inverter...any good/bad experiences you care to share since they hit the market?

Thanks Man!! I really appreciate your input...if you see my other thread in the beginners corner, maybe with what I'm considering I can tolerate that draw. Can you recommend a better AOI or set up for a similar price or for a newbie to deal with?? I've been trying to figure this out for a...

This is what I'm considering. 3KW EG4 AIO invert/charger 48Volt 100 AH EG4 5KW Battery (10) SunTech 330W Polycrystalline Monofacial Solar Panels (shipping / cost is playing into this) Those panels are 46.2 v. Can I run 10 in series and be good on my voltage (462v) (inverter can handle (500VOC...

About to pull the trigger on a EG4 3kW Off-Grid Inverter...any good/bad experiences you care to share since they hit the market?

Off grid container build, EG4 3kW Off-Grid Inverter + EG4-LifePower4 Lithium Battery | 48V 100AH | Server Rack Battery and an array of about 3,500 watts of panels I've yet to decide on. Won't ever need more than about 2,000 watts at any given time and I have a back up generator for higher...

    120v or 240v ??? I have a choice to make

Thanks Lt Dan! I was thinking that maybe the 240 would provide more juice through the inverter and on to the outlets but once it's split back to 120 maybe not. Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated!

    120v or 240v ??? I have a choice to make

Well the 5kW must be single phase I went back and I think there is the need for a transformer?, I had a late edit including a 6kW Split Phase. same price as the 6.5kW 120v So maybe it boils down to why choose 120V or 240V?

    120v or 240v ??? I have a choice to make

In my solar/battery/generator build, my gas powered generator that I plan to include has the option to power at 240 volts. When shopping for AiO inverters I see a choice (at sig.solar) between an offgrid... EG4 3kW 120v output $749 or Growatt 5kW 240v output. $899 or EG4 6.5kw 120Volt for...

Off Grid: Solar + Battery + All in one inverter/charger + Gas Powered Generator set-up ??

So it sounds like I'd be safe to go with this, as my generator is an inverter style with 9500W Max Starting, 7600W Running. I think my only concern now is will I ever need more that 3,000W at once and if I think I may then I could either add another EG4 3000W later or just start out with a...

Off Grid: Solar + Battery + All in one inverter/charger + Gas Powered Generator set-up ??

1st Thank You all for being so generous with your knowledge!! This is my plan for an off grid camp I'm building..... EG4 48v Battery + EG4 3000W all in one + an "inverter/generator" If I use an all in one like an EG4 3000W, hook up my panels and battery and then run the AC OUT to a circuit...

    Charge Time

I'm trying to figure out what are the parameters that limit charge time on a LiFePo. Specifically if I get a EG4 Lithium battery 51.2V (48V) 5.12kWh with 100AH coupled to a EG4 3kW Off-Grid Inverter | 3000EHV-48 | 3000W Output | 5000W PV Input | 500 VOC Input Charge time hooked up to my...

Where can I buy panels (AR/TN/MS) online?

I’ve looked around but it seems like you can only buy a minimum of 10 panels. Where can I buy or order a smaller quantity?

    Help with the math please…

Let’s say I want to run a 10,000 BTU window unit in an off grid well insulated shipping container for 2- 3 hours per day for the sole purpose of controlling humidity in the summer months. The AC unit has a start up demand of 3,000 watts and a 1,000 watts continuous. Will (1) 48v 100ah battery...

What’s a better plan, 24v direct or 24v inverted to 110v? Similar to an RV set up.

Also I remember watching on of Will’s videos and him talking about 48v can get dangerous? Is that correct or is that after you get up to around 50? Something about enough volts to stop your heart or something?
  34. B

What’s a better plan, 24v direct or 24v inverted to 110v? Similar to an RV set up.

Well I focused in on 24 to reduce my amps as apposed to 12. But moving to a 48v system would cost that much more in batteries. So I’m trying to control costs and get by on my limited knowledge. Thanks for your patience, I’m trying to figure all this out and I really appreciate your engagement.

What’s a better plan, 24v direct or 24v inverted to 110v? Similar to an RV set up.

Well, my electrical literacy at this point is too poor to have an proper response to that. However maybe I need to study that.
