    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

Thanks! I will give this a shot, if all is good I'll pass along the info to SA to update their webpage. I think the thread title is confusing, sorry about that. I got control over my data by switching away from the default logger for my Sol Ark which is PV Pro. That system relies on an...

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

Might have to, although I'm in touch with them so I'll see if it's possible to add a user-defined setting to control logging interval.

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

I have a rack of Jakiper batteries, the manual is a little unclear how to set this up. When plugged into RS485A, I get "no response". With RS485B I get "invalid data". According to the SA battery config page, I should be using "Jakiper RS485 port" Any ideas based on this photo?

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

Is your battery connected to Solar Assistant logger AND to your inverter? I just tried that, but it didn't work (connection failed). I am now reading that it may not be possible. Is anyone aware of a workaround?

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

Such a constructive response, thanks bud! I spent the money so I don't need to build it myself. This is directly from their website, and it's the main reason I purchased the license.

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

Interesting! This will only tell us how often it's writing to disk though. We would need a different method to determine how often it's polling the inverter / updating the UI. If this is happening over a web socket we could monitor that? Those timestamps are not exactly 10 seconds apart, I...

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

I think this comment is the real reason SA has value. Unless someone has already done this from Sol Ark into Home Assistant, it would likely be very time consuming / complicated to do. I'm plugging this into the Pi today so SA can get more details about my batteries. I hope it's the right...

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

This is a good point. Without this, you would need to give techs access to your SA dashboard, and they may not want to use a different interface to help diagnose problems. They would, however, have access to higher resolution data. Last I heard, they are targeting 30 second data points (big...

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

With solar assistant I see no need for the app. What benefit would it provide? Yes, exactly. Again, this is not the job of the Pi. This is handled on the client - your computer, phone, tablet, whatever.

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

The historical data provides the real insight into your system. Unless you're staring at the dashboard all day, the charts hold the real value. From their website, very misleading: It is already being polled every second by the logger. The issue is that SA is not writing those values to the...

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

The dashboard values are updated every 1-2 seconds, so SA is definitely receiving this data. This includes AC load, battery load, PV, and SOC. The charts for these values only offer data points every 10 seconds. No mystery here!

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

My inverter shows all values update at once, and I would assume it's sending those same values to the logger, just looks like an implementation issue. The dashboard does not update all values at the same time, making them appear to be incorrect. Why would you want 10 second logging? Why not...

    Solar Assistant vs. Home Assistant

I finally made the switch to Solar Assistant from the default logger (PV pro) for my Sol-Ark. Now that I have it running, I wanted to share my experience and pose a question. Good things: Easy setup I have control over my data I do not rely on an internet connection to log data Logging...

No PV input until I reset the RSD transmitter

I have 2 identical PV arrays connected to 2 different inputs on my SA 15k. Both arrays are connected to the same RSD transmitter. This morning array 1 stayed at 6v while array 2 climbed quickly to 280v (as expected). This is the 2nd time this has happened in about 2 weeks. A quick reset of...

    200A Manual Transfer Switch?

I've called 15+ electrical companies and nobody is able to help. Some get scared off when I mention solar, others have no idea what hardware would be code compliant aside from expensive auto transfer switches. Regarding the interlock option, I am not able to find something off the shelf, nor...

Yes. Yes. And what happens when I need to service the inverter? Did you read the post?

    200A Manual Transfer Switch?

Found this on another forum: Standard Reference: CSA C22.2 No. 178.2-04 Clause 5.9.5 Removal of covers, doors or access panels shall not result in defeating the interlocking mechanism. I have a 60a critical load subpanel with an interlock? that is not attached to the panel cover. I'm hoping...

    200A Manual Transfer Switch?

I'm working with a 225A Federal Pioneer Stab-lok. Has a bunch of extra space in it. I don't see any kits designed specifically for it, is that what I'm looking for?

    200A Manual Transfer Switch?

That thing is MASSIVE!! I would have to move a lot of stuff around to make space. Any smaller options out there?

    200A Manual Transfer Switch?

Yeah but I was looking at the Canadian site, hoping to source something from Canada. Good to know I have options though. Double throw means it can point to 2 different loads (as well as off)? Backyard wedding this summer, a lot of important circuits on my main panel I want backed up.

    200A Manual Transfer Switch?

I am looking to add a manual transfer switch before my main panel so I can back feed power to my whole home in the event of a power outage. The 200A utility would connect to the switch, which would then connect to my main panel, and to my Sol Ark 15k. By default I would have the switch...

Sol-Ark 15K All in One Inverter Released.

Where'd you hear this? I spoke with support who could not confirm. I find it very annoying that they will not publish any sort of changelog for their firmware updates.

    Back feed for snow melting?

Good point. Much less likely to burn out components, easy to automate. My panels Voc is around 47, I'm guessing I could branch off my 48v battery rack to the PV..how do you plan on applying voltage?

    Back feed for snow melting?

Maybe a dumb question, but during the meting process, would it help to shutoff the incoming PV?

    Back feed for snow melting?

What sort of power was required in your experiment? Lets say 1 500w panel takes 5kwh to melt snowfall over a 5 hour period. That loss would be recovered with 10 hours of sun (realistically 20 hours factoring in tilt, exposure, etc). If the snow was not melted, that panel could stop producing...

    Back feed for snow melting?

Not a bad idea. I wonder if it would be enough to keep the entire panel warm or just the edges? I may have to experiment with that.

    Current difference on rack batteries

I really should get the app going on my PC. I plan to get all of this data integrated into a home assistant interface, just a matter of finding the time. Thanks for looking into this and sharing your findings!

    Back feed for snow melting?

I tried the hose idea! Even standing on a ladder, I couldn't reach them with enough water to make a difference. My roof is actually quite steep. On regular snow days, it does tend to slide off on its own. We recently got a dumping of 25-30" so they didn't see the sun for over a week...

    Back feed for snow melting?

Snow is really killing my solar buzz. Is it possible to back feed into the panels to heat them up without creating a fire hazard? Or any other solutions aside from a brush? My roof is way too high for me to reach so I need to find another solution!

    Current difference on rack batteries

Yep bus bars, my wiring config is described above ^^ I find it interesting that from 100% SOC, the top / bottom have lower current, but later around 80% SOC, they have higher current. Voltages are so similar so I would guess the BMS is involved in this but I really don't know what I'm talking...

    Current difference on rack batteries

I would be happy with 5%! I'm getting up to 200% difference on top/bottom compared to the others. I've seen SOC differences of >20% in 1 day.

    Current difference on rack batteries

Over the last hour or 2 the top/bottom batteries now have the highest current in the rack. Does the BMS have control over how much each battery will charge / discharge based on the load? Or is it all up to physics? Any guess why the top and bottom seem to always have a very similar current...

    Current difference on rack batteries

Are you suggesting i take my own voltage readings and compare against the voltages reported by BMS? Or is the info I posted above enough?
