Measuring heat pump electrical usage -- anybody using a smart device of some kind?

    (y) I don't have a heat pump, but have been using their emonPi for monitoring our house, solar and battery usage for 2 years - works really well and highly configurable. The team know their stuff, are responsive, and have been putting in a lot of effort in the heat-pump monitoring for a while.

    Solar help please

You can't store power (Watts), you can only store energy (Watt-hours or kWh). To work out how many batteries you need, you will need to calculate how much energy you need to store to use as power later. That will be measured in kWh. From knowing that, you can then calculate the capacity of...

    Expedient setup

    (y) I installed my ground mounts in the heatwave summer of 2022 and grass growth was no problem at all then, nor last summer. But this year though, it's kept raining all spring and I've had to strim (*) the darn grass so often. Just happy I can charge up the strimmer's batteries for free...

You forgot to deploy the chainsaw first ;) They look pretty grounded to me :) Seriously though... looking good - those mounting frames look nice and solid - what are they?

I don’t understand the behaviour of my Hybrid inverter. Please help.

Doh... Why does that not surprise me . Sounds like the exact same issue that @radiomean had 2 years ago. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/ct-inaccuracies.45436/post-580015 Fingers crossed and keep us updated.

I don’t understand the behaviour of my Hybrid inverter. Please help.

TADTS! Seriously though... for a grid-tied system I would expect a bit of meandering around 0W as the inverter tries to keep the import/export balanced, but certainly not a constant draw of 50 to 100W. From what you are saying, it sounds as though the Growatt thinks it is balanced (as...

    JK BMS

Do you know what options are available with the new S6 Solis range? I have an S5-EH1P and for that you could use the user-defined option in the Solis and basic SMA protocol on the JK (if it supports such). I'm not aware of other users on here having the S6-EH1P yet (they are not yet approved...

    Deye 6kw CT location, distance

When I was considering Deye/Sunsynk I thought there is also an option to use an Eastron power meter and just have the Deye/Sunsynk use the power data from the Easton sent over an RS485 data link, rather than have a directly connected CT. If that is an option with your Deye, then it could be...

DIY Battery via Smart shunt to inverter integration (Solis etc)

    (y) yes, I use SOC, temp and voltage as inputs to the charge current. LOL... yes... been there, done that... 2A doesn't work! Interesting... maybe that is firmware-related though . Our Solis has been switching between 99% and 100% SOC every 30 mins or so, all afternoon.

    Obvious question from complete newbie

Welcome!.. the more we know, we know that there is more to know ;) You got the answer from the Solis+Pylontech expert on here, but do shout if you have any other Solis-related queries - there are a few of us regulars on here who have Solis inverters.

DIY Battery via Smart shunt to inverter integration (Solis etc)

Just an idea for your code when you add the temp monitors... What I did with my code (which, as you know, was originally derived from yours) was to adjust the charge rate so it is not just based on SOC, but also dynamically based on temperature, in line with the datasheet for my EVE LF280K's...

    Mixing 2 independent electrical systems

Unlikely. As @hwy17 said. Most AC to low voltage DC power supplies are doubly-insulated switch mode PSU's that don't even have an earth connection on the AC side.

    2 x SPA3000 chargers? Anyone tried?

Hmmm... maybe assuming they don't get too hot 🚒 Wondering if a resistor in series with the CT could have similar effect?

    2 x SPA3000 chargers? Anyone tried?

I just had another thought... Is the CT sensitivity configurable at all? I know you can double the output of a CT by looping the wire through it twice, but am wondering if it is possible to halve the sensitivity? If so, then maybe (and this is a quick guess, haven't had time to think it...

    HA on RPi?

Just trying to get my head around installing HA on a Raspberry Pi 5 running Raspbian. The HA guides recommend completely imaging the RPi with the HA 'specific purpose OS'. Is it not possible to just run HA as a stand-alone application alongside other stuff? Anyone done this? Have RPi 5...

    2 x SPA3000 chargers? Anyone tried?

I can't see how that would work  So, let's assume the house usage is 2000W and your panels are producing 1000W. The first SPA will see from the grid CT an import of 1000W. It will start discharging at 1000W to get the grid CT to zero Watts. As it starts discharging, the second SPA...

    stock BMS wire undersized?

Yes, my Overkill branded JBD uses 2 parallel 8awg wires. Following the thread I linked to in post #2 I monitored the temperature of the wires - they rarely get above 35C, which surprised me.

SPH3600 and Fogstar Topband 5kw batteries

That is a pain for us DIYers :( Assume you can't downgrade the firmware on your Growatt to revert to a version that does support third party batteries? What is initially strange is that AFAIAA Fogstar use Pace BMS which supports Pylontech protocol and you say Growatt support Pylontech too -...

    2 x SPA3000 chargers? Anyone tried?

Not sure about Growatt, but IMHO with my Solis, the internal feedback loop will do whatever is possible to get the grid CT value down to zero. So, unless the firmware is designed for parallel operation they will always fight each other. The fix, if the Growatts use an RS485-based power meter...

    Series and parallels

I am well confused now o_O. Can you draw us a diagram? Not sure if you have one or three battery packs (one shared or one for each controller). What chemistry battery are you using and why do you say you can't exceed 80Amps yet also say don't want to exceed 20A per battery

    Series and parallels

If the controller supports only 100V input max, then you can't connect two 49.92Voc panels in series without exceeding 100V at lower temps than 25 degrees C.

Does anyone have experience with white PV panels

Presumably with black deemed as 100%? In real terms, black panels are only 22-24%-ish efficient. At the end of the day, personally I wouldn't rank colour above efficiency, so I'll stick with your Henry Ford's stance of "Any color the customer wants, as long as it’s black.”
  31. SeaGal

Does anyone have experience with white PV panels

No, but I'd like some green ones to match the grass for my ground mounts if I didn't lose any efficiency :ROFLMAO: I suspect white ones are not going to be that popular! And I'd question whether white and black are colours or just shades of reflection, but I'll leave that for another thread ;)
