Under capitalism, any employer would/should pay the absolute minimum they can get away with and ask for the most amount of output from their employees. Loyalty, like profit sharing is nice, but should not expected. It is quite understandable and likewise, employees could counter that by forming collectives (unions) to force better working conditions and pay from those employers or they could vote for politicians that legislate in their interest. Just like business owners vote for politicians that further their interests.
Now we can discus the merits of this minimum wage having the potential benefit for the smaller family owned restaurants who might get more business if the prices for McDonalds go up, if they go up at all. Or how more money in the bottom half of the economy spurs on economic growth more than tax cuts for the wealthy. But we can keep it simple and be happy for the people earning $20 per hour while it lasts as those jobs will most likely be automated by the end of the decade anyway.
