Feasible to drill into panel crossbars?

Has anyone drilled into the cross bars that run the short length of the panel?

Yes it already has holes but not where I needed them, for my diy movable ground mounts on wheels Granted they are cheap renogy 100 watt panels but no problems

put a piece of material (wood or metal) inside the cross piece, so that as you drill through the aluminum, the scrap piece stops the drill bit from hitting the back panel of the PV.

Ideally that piece of scrap will not scratch the back of the panel, but yeah not a big deal. We used a piece of thin shipping foam and scrap plywood.
