How do I find someone

A few months back I engaged a user from Puerto Rico with regard to my project. We wrote back and forth a few times through this interface. How do I find that conversation ? I would expect there to be a site tool to let me see my history and conversations.

I click on the envelope in the top right for messages.
ThenI click show all.If its not there, its gone.
