How to drive common inverter LCD Display

Heaps of inverters seem to use the LCD display shown below.
Does any one know what protocol and method is used to "talk" to the board and select the various icons as well as numeric fields?
I'm sure someone out there must have long ago decoded this stuff or found documentation.
I would be grateful for any info.

Looks like the typical LCD used on the Axpert line of AIO inverters and their clones/derivatives/rebrands.
Why try to retrieve the data through the LCD interface when they have a perfectly good serial interface? Depending on the model, they're usually plain old RS232, or RS485. All the protocols were decoded years ago.
 
The communications protocol is probably SPI or I2C (though possibly UART). Graphic design is probably created with an IDE provided by the manufacturer. If you want to design your own screen, I've been using Nextion screens for about the past 8 years. Their IDE is relatively easy to learn, and graphics are whatever you can Photoshop to their pixel/color requirements (quite extensive!). Here are a couple examples:
