  • Post in thread: Emergency ? Help

Prior to installing solar - each time I ran my two parallel Renogys down from the fulltime cooler, I was able to reactivate the BMS by either activating the charger on my inverter/charger powered from my garage or by my DC-DC charger by simply starting the engine. I have never taken a direct...

  • Post in thread: Battery heater pad question.

6x 7.5W pads installed recently. was suppose to be out camping this week in sub freezing temps, but couldnt go afterall. it all works as tested on the bench, looking forward to testing in actual conditions.
  • Post in thread: Van build - setup design check?

Xantrex claims 36W at idle for my model 3000. I was mistaken, the small inverter I am using is a 300W unit (not 350). I did A LOT of research and chose this Bestek model. https://a.co/d/1LpZKuc Many choices out there, find one that will make you happy. Bestek claims: The current...

Youre asking for every scenario possible? The answer is: anything and everything you didnt account for to release possibly tens of thousands of amps to run amok.

Do the 48V AIO with a stepdown. Would seem simpler for the solar as well. Which battery(s) are you planning to use? Do you have a diagram to share? If not, it should help you determine what is easiest and/or better for the long run.

  • Post in thread: Van build - setup design check?

Im working on heating my undercarriage water tanks and circulating the water, both operating from temp relays. I believe the above calcs will be my experience when I boondock for 2-4days at a time in the winter. Running the diesel heater for 8-12hrs/evening, and the battery heating plate...

@ColoradoMtnMan1 i found this on another forum created last year regarding inverters:
  • Post in thread: LiTime vs LION Battery

its more a preference. so many styles of batteries and brands. more likely “comparisons” are LiTime vs EcoWorthy and LION vs Battleborn Ecoworthy typically use grade B cells and lesser performing BMS. Stay away. Battleborn made in the USA “game changing” old technology that isnt any better...
  • Post in thread: How can I power diesel heater since solar is probably going to be almost useless in winter when I want heat most?

Some will find a way how. Some will find a way not to. In my van I dont have a cooking stove, dont need one. I certainly wouldnt spend $1100 and some change to put one in a van unless there was an absolute advantage. But I get that you wanted to leverage the fuel aspect. And I have just...
  • Post in thread: Please help me get a better understanding of PV disconnect use.

IIRC I read in my MPPT manual that the battery must be connected prior to connecting the panel to the controller. I take that to also mean you must disconnect the panel prior to disengaging the battery. I use a Midnite Solar breaker off the panel (70Voc) to the mppt and a Mechanical Products...
  • Post in thread: Just upgraded to Lithium, battery dies often, what is my solar system missing?

i’m helping somebody out with the same situation as you. They had two AGM batteries that I swapped out with two lithium batteries. With a full-time fridge and other light usage he was much happier with the new batteries however, because he couldn’t monitor the actual power in and out he...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar EG4 12v 400ah - low temperature charging

Dont be confused. When Will was promoting BB 4years ago LiFePO4 was just becoming mainstream. The technology has changed, while BB has not. The revolutionary next generation game changing product was overpriced for that day, and more so grossly today.
  • Post in thread: Fans: 12V vs 110V watts per cfm

relative to the OP, ive been using a couple of these portable fans with success! comparing the pros and cons of installing 12V fan(s), these portable ones have SO MANY more features over the marine style permanent mounts. just a suggestion: Portable Clip on Fan 65 Working Hours, Camping Fan...
  • Post in thread: New Battleborn "Lithium Power Pack 6500" for $9,999

The non-BB components are about $2300? So they want roughly $10K (regular pricing) for their batteries and labor to assemble?? But the best part: 6-8 weeks leadtime. “But if you call now, we’ll throw in this toaster absolutely free…” 🙄
  • Post in thread: Truck Camper solar and DC to DC 12v mod

I had a Sterling60 I replaced with the Orion30 and Im getting better performance in every category for the spec. Hopefully I will come across those posts. Im interested in the statements. For any given product I wonder how much of the non-substantiated complaints were self-induced errors...

  • Post in thread: Newb to the forum.

Awesome! Let us know how it works. Do a test or two with a partial shade if you can. Some units are better than others when even just creating a shade with your hand. (I dont ever plan to create a shadow over my panels but sometimes it happens….)
  • Post in thread: Charging Lithium batter with LA charger (WFCO-8635P_

When you mean 13.6 is fine, you mean for Lithium? The OP is asking about a 230Ah Li battery.
  • Post in thread: Battery heater pad question.

correct. same but different. in retrospect i probably should have used the polyimide type like this: DONGKER 12V Polyimide Heating Film, 25W PI Polyimide Heater Plate 100mmx100mm Polyimide Flexible Adhesive Heater https://a.co/d/3b2V37d you might be interested in this purpose made silicon for...
  • Post in thread: LiTime vs LION Battery

Agreed on the LiTime customer service. I believe Power Queen is made by LiTime. I just purchased 3 PQ Minis. Upon initial charge 1 of them wouldnt budge past 14.25V. I contacted them and received a response with a USPS return label the next day. Problem was, the USPS would NOT take the...

  • Post in thread: Just upgraded to Lithium, battery dies often, what is my solar system missing?

If you had just a small set up that you use occasionally, I would say you would be OK with just about any brand DCDC charger and shunt/monitor. But if you’re depending on your system day in and day out, then I would definitely recommend going with all Victron energy components. Victron are...
  • Post in thread: Truck Camper solar and DC to DC 12v mod

@ColoradoMtnMan1 Saw these recommendations from another thread posted here today: “Outback, Xantrex, Magnum, Samlex, Aims.” Ive read good things about Samlex and Aims. When I called Xantrex about my out-of-warranty unit regarding the charging profile of my older inverter not having a...
  • Post in thread: Battery heater pad question.

i do not have a satisfactory scientific explanation other than to say for my installation/application i believe there would be better heat transfer without the silicon.
  • Post in thread: Lithium batteries

Per the links posted above, if I had to make a decision today, and based on based on what I think I know about batteries, I would not hesitate to get the SOK from Current Connected. Great product, low risk purchase. If you dont have a means to monitor your battery such as a shunt w/display...
