I have a question re the Daly Smart 250a BMS..
Is it possible to use both the bluetooth and uart cable together? I can do minimal programming over bluetooth.. and from what I can gather there may be a driver at the end of this month to integrate the BMS with the Victron gear..
There seems to...
Thanks Snoobler.. All the graphs I had seen were pretty smooth.. its now on a slightly downward trend.. now at 13.04v and 33.9 SOC after 55 hours and 224.5ah consumed.. i'm actually pretty happy as it looks like it will survive 3 days with no input.. solar will help immensely (working on 400w)...
I to'd and fro'd on this a lot also.
I ended up going a single 2p4s with large BMS on my boat. It keeps it simple. I went with 163ah Calb Cells and a 250A Daly smart BMS (total of 326ah capable of 1c charge and discharge). If I went 4s only i'd still need the 250a BMS on each pack to carry the...
I have a 40ft (older) powerboat and have just gone to the LFP conversion. I added a Multiplus 12/3000 and went with a custom 326ah LFP pack with 250a BMS - NO Solar currently. Once all installed I did a quick test of how long the system would stay up on battery alone. The boat wasnt being lived...
Thanks for that - some interesting methods there :) A new battery is on the way.. just not going to be here on time. Single lithium 326ah (2p4s)
the batteries are definitely not dry - you can hear them sloshing when moved. I was thinking sulphated.. but i'm not sure i'm gonna be able to do...
HI Guys
New to the forum apart from lots of browsing.. hoping to get some opinions (hopefully the same!)
I have a boat with twin cummins 6bta and 15si/19si 105a Delco Alternators..
Each engine has a 1000cca Bosch AGM
House bank is 600Ah over 6 batteries AGM - one has just died - they are 7...
Thanks Bubba
I was being Lazy - yes solar is planned - but I guess I didnt show it as its only 2 wires into each MPPT.. Also I need to work out the mounting for the panels as we have a soft bimini up top. and at best i'll only be putting 200w of power through each mppt.. as I have no more room...
Thanks Snoobler..
Cells are CALB L173F163 - not much info on them.. the older models had fairly complete manuals these do not.. it does suggest 3.65v per cell so 14.6v and float according to the old cell manual of 13.6 max.. (old charging segment copied in as last picture below.. )
Specs are...
Thanks for that. So in place I have the negative bus, the case ground (120mm2) going to the negative bus, I know I have to return this negative bus back to the engines.. or boat common ground point, but the bit that has me stumped (and everyone else) is the size of the cable to do this. On my...
I'm running 2x Enerdrive DC2DC 50amp chargers (I have twin engines 105a Alternators - one DC2DC per engine paralleled at the battery ) the charge current is adjustable so currently running 80a total.
I was told by enerdrive to add a relay on the feed to the DC2DC chargers from the crank...
Yep the cables to the inverter are a combination of 120mm2, copper bus bar and 95mm2 and i had some spare earth cable at 120mm2.. so used it. I'm in Aus so not under ABYC but use it as a guide anyway..
Ok now this is the bit that has me confused. (the following is just my musings and probably...
Hi Guys - OK so not a solar question but one that seems to be evading google
I am installing a Multiplus 12/3000 240v. I have all the wiring done and am looking at the grounding side. Victron are vague on it, ABYC (im in aus so not relavent apart from reference) state that one size down from...
As I posted earlier I can do 100a.. via DC2DC... mine are 50a each and can be ran in parallel.
Re charging direct from the alternator.. using LIFEpo4 batteries with large BMS's you are likely to kill your alternator with the draw the battery will put on the alternator. Alternators unless...
Hi guys
Just trying to work out which to go for as I'll be buying 2 and paralleling the outputs (inputs from seperate crank batteries)
Stirling Bb1260.. 60 amp input but what output? Kinda found rough info saying 45a seems low though..
Alternatively the enerdrive dc2dc 40a has not built in...
Im by no means an expert so take this with a pinch of salt...
Victron require an ANL fuse or T fuse for the main fuse from the battery.. something to do with a higher interrupt current. The Mega fuses dont cut it as a primary apparently.
You may want to fuse the Batteries with a higher rating...
Another comment would be for your starting batteries.. why not use one DC2DC charger and use a VSR between the 2 batteries.. as I assume they will be fairly well matched type / size wise?
Also what is charging your batteries (house) from the engine? What size alternator etc have you got? I...
HI Anthony
I have looked pretty extensively and regarding batteries, I have just dropped an order in with a local (Victoria) company for a built Prismatic Cell battery with decent size BMS. I'm running 12v and have gone for a 326AH 2P4S CALB celled unit with a 250amp Daly smart BMS - but they...
Thanks.. So do I assume that its use either bluetooth or Uart (usb) not both at the same time or is the second black connecter to the right available also for uart?
Steve
Re the ACR/VSR - you could simplify things quite dramatically by going a combined DC2DC charger with built in MPPT This way you eliminate the VSR and the Solar controllers - given the output of your motors you would not need a big dc2dc charge rate but may need to oversize it for the solar...
Probably doesnt add much but I was horrified how small my new battery was. CALB celled 326AH (12v) with a daly 250a BMS.. size.. 285mmH x 380mmL x 210mmW including the BMS and cables. This is only marginally larger than ONE of the 6 agms it replaced!
Steve
Hi Bob
Where are you based? In Aus we have an option of an enerdrive DC2DC Charger with MPPT it will do 50A and 45v solar input.. the renogy also does 50A, but only 25/25a solar / alt when both are available i believe - solar is also capped at 25v... renogy is cheaper but the enerdrive is a...
Yep I know they lasted well.. being bought all at the same time and probably from the same batch (by previous owner) means they have all dropped at the same time..
Oh well.. i may try a few other things and see how I go.. its almost becoming not worth it as it literally one more trip.. !
Steve
HI All
Looking for some collective wisdom..
Multiplus 12/3000/120-16 charging 2p4s Calb 163A cells with a daly smart BMS (250a)
Looking for the correct settings for charging the above batteries. I think it should be..
Absorption voltage - 14.6
Float 13.5
Charge Current -120 (I can adjust...
Hi Guys
I cannot find much info out about these things.. an "Aussie company' is selling flexible shingled cell panels.. they claim 240w (but I understand that they are unlikely to be) Panel here...
Bah.. not you too :) I have ordered a single 326AH lithium (CALB cells) with a 250a BMS and the first thing my wife said was .. what about if it goes wrong!.. now i'm thinking I've done it wrong :) oh well it keeps things simple.. I can always carry a spare BMS..
I looked at quite a few...
I have an arc welder too.. just not sure i'm game risking covering myself and the garage in acid.. :)
Its looking likely that the 'trip' wont go ahead as the wind is not looking spectacular!
Steve :)
Hi Guys
I have a 2p4s CALB celled 326ah battery with a 250A Daly smart BMS. I'm just doing its first discharge and charge (except a few top ups when messing with the installation. Now i'm not thinking anything is wrong... but just curious..
I have a constant load of about 2.7a on the boat...
I have 326ah of LFP and run 120a charge from a multiplus, I have 2x 50amp DC2DC chargers in parallel for a 100a total charge.. and will be going solar and trying to squeeze 400+w on the boat flybridge. The 100a DC2DC charge is only 1/3 of what the battery can handle, and I chose this way as we...
