  • Post in thread: Eclipse 2024

I live in central NH and drove up to St. Johnsbury Vermont day of (we left at 11:00am and traffic was so bad that's as far north as we could make it) and we found an open spot and set up chairs and watched the full eclipse with the kids. The full total eclipse was spectacular, But I do not...
  • Post in thread: Tesla CyberFlop

When you go your whole life not to being taught something or being told that it's a "mans job" it's hard to get interested in something. Blame societal norms. For every woman out there who "doesn't know one end of a screwdriver from the other" there's two-fold more men who couldn't cook their...
  • Post in thread: View with skepticism - Youtube claimant to run his house and charge Teslas

This reeks of an "I'm a for hire inspector and not only do I not abide anybody having fun/being different, but they need to do things my way or else" vibe.
  • Post in thread: Santan solar deal

Man... their website is absolutely OBNOXIOUS to navigate. There's no easy way (at least on mobile) to sort by size or whether the listing that you are clicking on is for a container load, a truckload or a pallet.
  • Post in thread: Multiple MPPT Solar Charge Controllers to the same battery bank

You over-panel in parallel, not in series. So there's no danger of going over the max PV voltage ratings, you just set it up to intentionally over produce current on a typical sunny/summer day and then on a cloudy/winter day you when you have significant losses you still (hopefully) meet your...
  • Post in thread: What was your most interesting recent non solar project?

I just wish I had a garage lol 😅 There's pros and cons to living in an apartment, but damn I can't wait to find a house this year and (hopefully) move into it ASAP. Been looking for a long time, but the market has been awful. My last major project was getting the metal roofing up on the...
  • Post in thread: Safety Gloves?

I just took a full 8 hour electrical safety course at work last week. I knew you needed to be safe, but holy crap I did NOT know the level of safety gear the industry expects you to wear just to go into an electrical panel and use a multimeter to verify no electricity on what you're working on...
  • Post in thread: Have any of you all looked into building a Tesla magnetic Wheel?

    Okay, then make one.
  • Post in thread: Multiple MPPT Solar Charge Controllers to the same battery bank

Aren't panels cheaper than another 1-2kW of batteries? In a perfect world, yes, you would want to have the battery capacity to take in every square inch of your yards solar availability. But if you've already sized your battery to what you want/need or that's what you can afford at the...
  • Post in thread: New EG4 Chargeverter V2

I agree. It's a good gesture for those that need it, but that's also what insurance is for. 💁‍♀️
  • Post in thread: Eclipse 2024

We had plenty of time to talk during this road trip and we had that exact conversation. It would be absolutely awful. This was a normal fun thing people were willing driving to and from, then imagine how bad it would be if EVERYONE were evacuating and their families lives would be on the line...
  • Post in thread: Good deals on LiFePO4 batteries

    DC House 48V 50Ah are now $476 a piece.
  • Post in thread: Safety Gloves?

I would not want to get hit with 3 phase 480VAC, but I'm sure the much higher voltages are significantly more terrifying. Yeah, we use some fuses here that are HUGE, probably carry close to 24KW.
  • Post in thread: the rapidly changing inverter landscape

It's always easier to ask for forgiveness, then to ask for permission. That's what I would do in every situation ever in my life, not just solar. Make it pass inspection, then modify it as I see fit afterwards, because nobody is stepping foot on my property/home/residence etc without a warrant.
  • Post in thread: New Battleborn "Lithium Power Pack 6500" for $9,999

It bothers me when I see people with BB products because I legitimately believe they are predatory. Its all a name brand and a "good warranty" can only go so far to make up for their astronomical prices. I'm not saying its wise to go for bargain basement batteries, but BattleBorn is all...
  • Post in thread: Biden

Easter changes dates every year. "Trans day of Visibility" doesn't. Why does everything have to be nefarious?
  • Post in thread: Lost in the lifepo4 woods

You should always start any threat that you create with as much information as you possibly can. I would rather be thought of as a nerd who overshares information then be stuck in a situation where you might not be providing enough information from the get-go.
  • Post in thread: Bifacial panels really work!

Awesome, Bifacial is definitely the best way to go nowadays. Especially if you live in an area with less sunlight and/or an area that gets lots of snow. They're worth it just for the benefits with the ground reflection due to the snow alone. ⠀
  • Post in thread: Solar as a hobby ROI.

Hobbyist for sure. I have lost money at this point, due to charging my battery system from the grid most of the time and then just using it incidentally for silly fun things and testing. But when the power goes out I have my multiple Power Stations and a DIY battery system to hold me out til...
  • Post in thread: My Hand truck build. Prowse inspired!

    Looks awesome 👍
  • Post in thread: Multiple MPPT Solar Charge Controllers to the same battery bank

Of course it would. I don't even know how you come to the logic that it couldn't. If I stick two pieces of paper towel on some water that I spilled, won't the two pieces of paper towel absorb more water? I think you're somehow conflating what we are saying to mean that we are trying to imply...
  • Post in thread: Multiple MPPT Solar Charge Controllers to the same battery bank

Again how many bad weather days we are talking about. Nobody here has argued that it isn't a wasteful method. From the get-go, I think those of us that are talking about this have fully understood and made it aware that we understand that on a normal day the extra current is being wasted. I...
  • Post in thread: Looking for 48-52" 200W panels

Hey, just to let you know it's cheaper to buy them in a single pack @169.99 -10% coupon. That's $154 individually Or that 4 pack is $164 each. Those are a great deal though 👍😁 Edit- Actually it looks like the 10% off is only for one item, but if you add four to the cart you get a "Buy 4...
  • Post in thread: I must be doing something wrong.

Getting the most out of what you pay for is important, but I never understood fretting over 2, 3, 4 percent discrepancies. As long as you're occasionally checking things to make sure your batteries are within a row of assholes then I truthfully believe your time is better spent doing other...
  • Post in thread: Have any of you all looked into building a Tesla magnetic Wheel?

I consider myself a very conspiratorial individual, but if cheap free or nearly free energy existed we would be using it. Same thing about that BS claim about the person who's supposedly invented a water-powered car but "they had him killed, man... To like suppress the ideas, bro. It's real...
  • Post in thread: Twisting wire to make a thicker wire.

Yes. You'd really want to properly terminate the end of each wire to a ring terminal and just use them that way versus just twisting them together. Ultimately you want to always choose the right size wire when you can though.
  • Post in thread: Interesting phenomena

Look up "edge of cloud effect", that may be what's happening. ⠀
  • Post in thread: Is it acceptable to use a standard wall switch for a low amperage DC application?

Sweet, I'm happy to hear that those all work for you on a normal light switch. That's actually what I bought as well already. I bought some 12v rated lightbulbs and few e26 style wall sconces for more directional lighting and then a bunch of 12v string lights for everywhere else.
  • Post in thread: Charging an Eco Flow with external battery

My EcoFlow Delta Mini works at 36v, but I haven't tried it at any higher voltages. But yes, as other have said, you can plug anything you want into your PV input on your Power Station as long as you are 100% sure that you will not exceed the devices maximum allowable voltage input. I have a...
