The thing you are all overlooking is the fact that the panels were not properly installed and this caught someone's attention. If you would of left them on the ground you would have been fine.

Added bonus is you can heat the shop at the same time...lol

Battery #1 negative to bus bar, positive to #2 negative. #2 pos to #3 negative, pos to #4 negative, #4 pos to bus bar. All 3 banks wired the same. According to the date code it was one of my oldest ones... bought new in 2015

I got the bank torn down and here are the voltages...bank 3 is the one that melted. Bank 1 Battery #1 12.48 Battery #2 12.37 Battery #3 12.56 Battery #4 12.58 Bank 2 Battery #1 12.7 Battery #2 12.37 Battery #3 12.56 Battery #4 12.73 Bank 3 Battery #1 12.79... looks good Battery # 2 9.3...
