  • Post in thread: Units moderator. There should be a units moderator assigned.

Nobody expects the Units Inquisition. Some people take it too far, correcting Kw to Kwhr is useful, correcting kwhr to kWhr is anal.
  • Post in thread: If buying land would you say south facing is essential for solar and/or are there other decent power options besides solar?

Panels are now so cheap the direction is less important than the room to mount, a few extra panels will offset a less than ideal orientation so the more room the better.
  • Post in thread: New Eve cells Mb30 MB31

Watch the 10000 cycles carefully, this is not based on an 80% of original capacity but 70%. So not far off the 6000 when you plot the line. Alternatively call it Marketing Bullshit.
  • Post in thread: Financing available for DIY residential grid tied systems?

I did a setup in stages, as each stage paid for itself or was making enough savings to tell me it was worth it, I moved onto the the next stage.
  • Post in thread: Is it possible to harvest and store enough solar in summer to carry you through winter?

    Move to the equator.
  • Post in thread: Guidance on Alibaba Trade Assurance, cells not shipped on time.

Watch out for the next trick which is for the supplier to say its shipped but the tracking number comes up as not updated.
  • Post in thread: Will PV panels get any cheaper?

China has finally reacted to the glut and is laying off Solar Panel workers, maybe too late to stop US tariffs.. They are so cheap now there is no point holding off, the savings from some future possible decrease are more than offset by what a panel would save making electricity during the same...
  • Post in thread: Anybody tried new JK BMS with inverter communication support?

-V14.17 Upgrade logs 1.Fixed a bug where parameters were lost after BMS restart. The bug is caused by a logical error in the parameter entered by the user. 2.Change the default configuration parameters to LPF to improve security. 2.Optimized JKBMS Modbus protocol, added RCV RFV...
  • Post in thread: Inverter does not frequency shift

I have a frequency controlled inverter but it never gets throttled as I also use a Raspberry Pi to monitor the frequency. When the Pi sees the frequency increasing it switches on loads so the surplus is used rather than throttled. All achieved in Node-red.
  • Post in thread: DIY 280AH battery JK BMS JK-PB2A16S20P Canbus to SMA 5048

I built a DIY 16S battery using Fogstar supplied Envision 280AH Grade B cells Case was an self build XR-07 with JK-PB2A16S20P BMS and screen It is now built and is at 69% charge out of the box and all cells are at 3.29V +/- .01V. SMA SI 5048 EU is loaded with latest SI 6048 US firmware with...
  • Post in thread: Thanks,Dad, For Teaching Me to DIY Stuff

My dad was a time served Coach builder, he taught me nothing other than how to get shouted at when holding a torch that did not shine directly on the nut he was undoing. I am self taught (don't count the engineering degree as its of no practical use), have my own workshop with Lathe and...
  • Post in thread: Understanding grid tie system

FIT is transferrable to new owner regardless of what happened to the previous owner. https://help.uw.co.uk/article/energy/Feed-In%20Tariff/what-happens-to-my-feed-in-tariff-fit-payments-if-i-move-home
  • Post in thread: North facing panels do better on cloudy days than south facing. Weird.

Diffusion of the light, they will out perform more upright south facing panels as the clouds bounce the light around in all different directions.
  • Post in thread: Is this wise? Making a battery without BMS?

Its wise until it goes bang.
  • Post in thread: DIY 280AH battery JK BMS JK-PB2A16S20P Canbus to SMA 5048

Went through all the JK Canbus protocols, the ones the SI does not complain about are Pylontech, Goodwe and Deye. All the rest fail.
  • Post in thread: Sunny Island SI-6048 with Sunny Boy 8000-US, RS485 vs. UL 1741

Whatever you go to to be able to work with the SI in off grid is best to have have a frequency control, @1201 has confirmed his Growatt does this and I have confirmed that EU Solax's will do this also. If it does not have frequency control then, if your battery is large enough and can handle...
  • Post in thread: BMS Com Fault.

Maybe this thread can be merged with this on the same subject https://diysolarforum.com/threads/understanding-grid-tie-system.78401/page-2#post-1004457 Its one of those odd systems where a 2nd DC to battery inverter was added to a normal DC to AC inverter to add on a battery so the self use of...
  • Post in thread: Cell prices coming down

But don't be afraid to use those low ball prices to get a better deal off the good/reliable suppliers, just don't expect them to be matched.
  • Post in thread: cheap AliExpress experiences

After reading a lot of posts on here I bought my DIY cells from Fogstar.
  • Post in thread: Solar panel price and inflation.

Any new local housing development near to me is mandated to include solar panels where the roof points the right way ie South or East and West. New builds are bought by the young with families with both parents working and the kids at school so during peak production no one is home. Selling...
  • Post in thread: Anybody implemented the "Projects by Everyday Dave" bifacial ground mount?

It's not the strength of the wind that is the issue but the back and forth bending, you risk fatigue cracks appearing and then propagating. This is likely to appear at the point of entry into the ground. Best solution is another beam running from the top at an angle to the ground on the shaded...
  • Post in thread: Eve 105 with questionable (reprinted?) QR code

Chinese New Year and China comes to a halt for 2 weeks or so.
  • Post in thread: Dead cell sample lines on JKBMS JK-B2A24S JK-BMS >> FIXED

See post 13 for the pic, for some reason my type of board has 2 P8 pins and tracks, most only have one resistor fitted but both mine were populated so I had a spare. I have now bought some resistors in case more go but there were no 1/16W 0.01 Ω resistors around so I bought 1/8W 0.02 Ω...
  • Post in thread: What can I do for home battery system using 36v batteries?

If you can find out what cells are inside you could buy four 36V and dismantle to rebuild as three 48V as an example.
  • Post in thread: Energy consumption doubled since installing solar panels.

Your installer messed up on an item that is known to cause issues and did not take the time Iie 5 mins to check. Installers fault, how you get him to pay is the problem, when did you complain, did you get an independent check.
  • Post in thread: HELP!! My electricals went HAYWIRE yesterday and no clue what I did or how to troubleshoot

You best post some pics, its bad enough as a brit trying to order a breakfast in the US without adding DC smoke into the mix.
  • Post in thread: Sunny Island SI-6048 BMS communication

Have you set up the SI to see a new battery and selected the liIon_Ext_bms option.
  • Post in thread: Brick Fence for PV

I use Unistrut with hinges so can vary angle with season. Panel is 50% over top of wall for max adjustability.
  • Post in thread: Looking to max out a Huawei Hybrid Inverter L1 (HV) with optimized panels

You will have to search for that answer, I use optimisers but only to mitigate shading not to downrate the panels and I did not consider reducing output as the inverter takes what it needs as long as its there to take. So out of my 31 panels I have 6 with optimisers as those panels are shaded in...
  • Post in thread: DIY 280AH battery JK BMS JK-PB2A16S20P Canbus to SMA 5048

Yes that is how it is set, have set it using the Bluetooth via the app on android phone and tablet and a PC using the RS485 link and both work. Have changed to the Goodwe Canbus which also works but not sure if there are any advantages except that Pylontech LV seems to give the barest info...
