I have 76 panels for 26.22kW DC at the panels and a peak 23kW back to the grid. Sunny boy 3x 6.0 and 1x 5.0. Since we weren't in the house long a large basis of estimate was how the previous owners used power. Big difference between an older couple with grown kids and a young family with...

I have thought of possibly doing an opposite east west facing I just don't know if it pays. As it is I have 76 panels that are ground mounted facing due south. In order to maximize my solar production overall my inverters have extra panels installed on them so they seem to peak out longer but I...

I generate about 29MWh (29,000kWh) per year from solar (gross not net). What I attached is my inverter outputs. Basically my solar acts like a bank for the power in the summer and in the winter when my geothermal is really kicking in takes the power out of the account. From November to April...

5 days in February and already out produced January.

Basically here is the diagram I have below. I do wonder about possibly up sizing the inverter(s) possibly? I just don't know how much it buys though. Upsize the 6kW to 7kW and 5kW to 6kW. Max input on my 6kW is right around 6.8kW and Max on the 5kW is 5.43kW input. With efficiencies I maybe...

A few answers on this. Some of which i have pondered as well. 1) I do use the ground loops in the summer for air conditioning with geothermal. So pumping heat in the summer would hurt them. 2) I have thought of this for charging. And have also found out my job offers reasonably low rates for...

In my previous RV I had the inverter installed under the kitchen sink area raised up on a platform. This was mainly invented unless the cabinet door was open (rare). You could here the fans but over the noise of everything else it was never an issue. I never had an issue and maybe it was so...

I am also just south of Syracuse as well in Pompey. Initially a contractor installed the initial system and filed the paperwork and everything. As far from a power consumption standpoint I use probably 36,000kWh (36MWh) give or take during the year since everything I run is electric including...

Trying to figure out where to mount the converter and battery in the trailer. The electrical box is under the ward / pantry towards the back of the trailer. Initially was thinking under the king bed for the batteries but that inverter (6000xp)is not going to fit. It is a 2018 keystone cougar...

I have upgraded my travel trailer to a larger 38' travel trailer (2x ACs now) with a 50 amp service vs the 30 amp service I had in the past. In my old TT I had a manual transfer switch, 2x 12V batteries lithium, a 3KW inverter and a spare 12V battery charger that charged the lithium ion...

I am not as perfectly efficient but pretty darn close. 3k sq ft house and fairly well insulated: 1) 8 tons of geothermal on two systems (40% of my energy roughly) 2) Heat pump hot water heater 3) Electric dryer (Could eventually upgrade to heat pump when the cost goes down) 4) Electric stove...

Yup. I traded my half ton for a dually really quick on my last trailer that wasn't nearly as big. Honestly been thinking about this. Just wasn't sure how well it would it do if it ever had the chance to get exposed to the rain. I think unlikely but I still think it's possible. I do like that it...

I would love to put the batteries under the bed. There is some room under the pantry where I can put stuff but there is not that much space. I could possibly do it in the back of a cabinet but I do worry lack of airflow. My old camper I had a smaller inverter under a cabinet and it got hot. I...

Thinking more and more about this I am heavily leaning towards a 48V system especially looking at Will's new video and his mobile setup. https://www.mobile-solarpower.com/mobile-48v-system.html I was initially like mentioned in this using the EG6548XP but I am worried with the extremely high...

Has anyone actually measured the EG4 6000xp. I did some preliminary measurements in the trailer today and I might have a tougher time fitting it somewhere than I thought. Is it truly 25.5"x18"x5.25" as it says on the spec sheet? I seem to be very close in one or two of the dimensions quite a...

The price above 50/60amp MPPT gets very expensive quickly into the $400+ range. Basically it looks like I will be at $500+ already and the AIO allow higher voltages. Basically 12V at 1500W is a lot of current.
  • Post in thread: Another RV thread

I was definitely going to keep them separate. The split phase and regular 120V outlet. 120V would go to a battery charger to power the RV and the split phase would just go to the AIO. The issue is where the power cord is right now is in the back corner of the RV next to the entertainment center...

So the one difference is I got be able to hand a 240V input or a 120V input. That is why I was debating on putting the transfer switch in. As far as power is concerned I probably am about 1 AC based on the battery just due to the simple fact I think I will kill the battery too quickly otherwise...
  • Post in thread: NYSERDA

That makes sense. I think I just need to do some math on what I would need. I was just trying to see if I could dual use the batteries as a generator if power goes down. My diagram is a bit older when I was looking more at battery backup as a generator when the grid went down.
  • Post in thread: Another RV thread

Well I think I found where I want to put the inverter. I have a large area behind the TV where it should easily mount. I am wondering if I have room to put the batteries next to the fireplace in the back. Two on each side. The only thing I don't like is this would all be on a slide. The fridge...

I agree with you. I honestly never thought of higher voltage batteries like that but it makes a lot of sense especially when you get to whole house backup level. There is always a trade off with system size and voltage level most of the time.

I have a 23kW residential solar system right now in New York state. The residential limit is 25kW I believe for NYSERDA unless you are on a residential farm then it is 100kW. I have quite a bit of load as I have two geothermal units (8 tons), and everything else is electric. My electric use is...

This is awesome. I am going to have to attempt this. I have the shunt listed above. It would be great if I didn't need a new one but we will see.

So which inverter series do you like more? I got to be mindful of minimum voltage for the mppt. Right now I was going to go with 5x of the suntech STP295 watt panels in series. Open circuit is 45.1V and 35.7V at max current. I may do more panels but right now I was going to start here. *Edit*...
  • Post in thread: 50-amp 48v RV Question

I am doing a very similar setup. The plan is to put a chargverter input in case I have a 120V feed or need to power it off the generator. I plan on starting a build thread soon. I do like the idea of a separate input for the inverter. Might be cheaper than running a longer length of wire...

I think I agree with you 100%. I was doing the math while I was posting.
  • Post in thread: NYSERDA

Reading into the Sol-ark it looks like it would have exactly what I would need and looks like I could do the vast majority of it with one Sol-Ark. Biggest issue I see is that it is limited to 19.2kW AC solar input and I am at 23kW already. So it would look like I would need two of them minimum...
  • Post in thread: NYSERDA

That is a ton of battery power in the video. That had to cost a fortune. In an ideal world it would be great if I could do both battery backup and grid export all in one. I guess I would need to figure out how the other solar would work in this configuration as well with the grid tie...
  • Post in thread: NYSERDA

Understood. I was hoping not to have to parallel two converters just due to cost. On the other hand it gives you quite a bit of power for backup without stressing converters too much.

Can you elaborate on this? ATS = auto transfer switch? or auto transformer ? Do you have a diagram?
