So......... 10 years off grid here and chickens the whole ten years. Here whats you do. Leave the chickens ALONE. They dont need heat and they dont need light. If you need light when you go out there wear a haedlamp. Ive had -23f temps here many times and the chickens are just fine. Buy...
  • Post in thread: Tesla CyberFlop

FedGov wants you in an electric car because they can then shut the grid off or "ration" whats left of the power after they kill all coal, hydro, natural gas and nuke power plants. They also want smart connected cars because they can control when and where you drive and how often. Lastly and very...
  • Post in thread: Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

Yeah but..........Thats bad math. Kinda like saying Diet coke causes obesity cause you only see fat people drinking it. Your jeep was the problem not the gas bill. I drive a Honda civic and use 80/month. I got the car 10 years ago and paid 19k (how much tesla?). I now have 300k on car and going...
  • Post in thread: Do we need cell-pack springs?

Sorry. I tried searching "springs" and got a 41 page post about compression with everyone fighting, very NON-helpful. I did not know what was correct.
  • Post in thread: Sunfunkits show their true color

Yes you are correct with that point. Its why I chose Midnite solar and Samlex inverters. All the people here rushing to the lowest price chinese garbage has me scratching my head.
  • Post in thread: Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

Those are city folk numbers not country numbers. If you live out of the city like here in Idaho, the town is 54 miles each way. If we drive somewhere we can easily put on 300 in a day. If we buy something off craigs its always out of town and we can drive 4-800 miles. Farm animals can be 3-600...
  • Post in thread: Wow, Will is right, EG4=YOU are the beta tester....nuts!

Funny I install Victron and NO issues, just works. I almost bought eg4's, glad I didnt.
  • Post in thread: Snow on my panels is killing me

Just got 3 FEET of snow from 2 storms. Not a flake of snow on my panels and NO ice either. Panels worked the next morning without me having to fuss over them. How is that possible? Stand the panels straight up i the winter. No snow, No ice, no problems. Never put panels on roof in snow areas...
  • Post in thread: Any takers for the new EV outboard, $80,000 dollars and range of 30 miles

Im sorry, whats wrong with gas or diesel again? Love the title "Raises the bar"! More like "Flushes the toilet". https://newatlas.com/marine/evoy-storm-most-powerful-electric-outboard/
  • Post in thread: Off-Grid LED lanterns we use, best made!

Thought I would give a big heads-up to the LED lanterns we have used for the last 3 years. The lanterns were designed by a guy over on the budget light forum. He had the lanterns made by Co. named Sofim. They make really good quality products. I own several of their lanterns and lights. I...
  • Post in thread: Strange issue with 48V LiFePO4 system

No top balance here. All cells were at 3.105. Assembled and JKbms has cell delta at .001. 1.) order a JKbms and install. 2.) Get a victron smart shunt and install. The colder nights might make the electric water heater run more. Clouds might make it charge less. Sun angle would do the same.
  • Post in thread: Upgrade off grid cabin in cold climate

Let me give you a word of advice. Install a fuel cutoff valve inline so you can run the carb dry. Otherwise you are going to have a plugged jet and no start situation. I made a separate run/kill switch for mine so I could run it dry. If just one person leaves fuel in carb it wont run right even...
  • Post in thread: Terrible Signature Solar / EG4 18Kpv Experience - Returning and Replaced with Sol-Ark 15k

IM SHOCKED you got ANYONE to answer the phone not once but multiple times. I held for HOURS 4 days in a row, left messages and cussed them to sunday for their crappy CS. I never did talk to anyone nor did I get a call back. WONT EVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN, EVER!
  • Post in thread: WTB 24V inverter/charger

Buy a samlex evo. Just a note, microwaves draw 2x their rated power. (1,000 microwave draw 2000 watts) Samlex evos are low frequency and can handle those big power punching loads. I have been running one for 5 years in our tiny house. This one would work for you and last forever. Not chinese...
  • Post in thread: I fear Magnum is done.

Its a warning to others and a suggestion to you. Just move on! Buy once, cry once. Before you buy anything, do this---> Go to google, type in XYZ-Product +Problems issues failure bad horrible etc Also call tech support of that co and see how long it takes them to answer. Call midnite solar and...
  • Post in thread: I purchased used solar panels and have a question about the output...

Coming from a photography background and shooting the grand canyon I can tell you that a clear sunny day is anything but! You need to find out the particulate matter in the sky that day and also the moisture content. Those 2 things can drop solar by 25% or more. A clear day isnt always a clear day.
  • Post in thread: Reviews for solarsteals.com?

I can fix that app for free shipping on an order. :)
  • Post in thread: Do we need cell-pack springs?

Thanks and rodger that. I used Dollar Store table place mats to insulate batteries. You can just barely see them here. I read this forum for 1 months before ordering and building. Wealth of knowledge!!!!
  • Post in thread: Charge controller for a single 445W panel

Bwahaha..... Velociraptors have been around for hundreds of millions of years.
  • Post in thread: Need help choosing solar panels and inverter

Should clarify so the cats stop fighting. :) Generator AC charging not solar DC charging. Yes I understood. Any other opinions on panels. I think I am going to buy the Aptos 370w @ $96ea. Its a great price. They just came in stock. DNA-120-BF26-370W

Wham bam thank you mam........ That did the trick. Lets see if it works better tomorrow. Thanks
  • Post in thread: Brand new 280ah EVE cells shut off at 43% ah remaining, why?

Ha...... At the 4-6min mark this guy proves what you said about low and slow! The lower the ah charge the higher the pack ah capacity.
  • Post in thread: UGH! 3 chest freezers in 3 years. They last 1 year and 1 day.

I set mine to run -6f - -8f and try to hold those temps. You do NOT want expensive meat getting anywhere near zero. It turns gray and loses taste. Im picking up my 2 gourmet pigs from the butcher this AM and I will have $2,000 dollars of meat in my two freezers. It has to stay very cold while we...
  • Post in thread: UGH! 3 chest freezers in 3 years. They last 1 year and 1 day.

0f doesnt work for me. Had gray off-tasting meat after 3 months the first time I ran that temp. Try running colder and you will see the difference. Our meat might be in there for 9 months by the time we eat it all. 9 months at 0f is not good. 9 months at -8f is good.
  • Post in thread: Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

We changed out our old "lights dimming in the city" well pump to a grunfos sq and it only pulls 10a to start and 10a to run under load. Its a slow start pump and it changed everything for us. No need to have a 12k inverter to get the well pump started.
  • Post in thread: UGH! 3 chest freezers in 3 years. They last 1 year and 1 day.

I can tell you its near impossible to find stuff like this as all search engines are now censored/filtered for wokeness/global warming but freezing below 0f is preferred. Though all websites will tell you 0f to save power and save the planet. You wont be able to search for this info. Its all...
  • Post in thread: Victron MPPT over panelling

You wont see it in history graph you have to be running live to see it.
  • Post in thread: Off grid refrigeration

I solved the issue with a chest freezer using an inline temperature controller. Plug freezer into controller and set controller to 33 low and 37 high. I abandoned the idea of having a freezer they suck too much power. Here in N idaho I may not see sun for months, usually during the winter. We...
  • Post in thread: Can someone look at my cell voltages while charging?

Ok changed begin balance to 3.4v. What does this mean? Is it a setting? "Limit delta to 20mV or 0.02V"
