  • Post in thread: Configure IP65 for charging Battle Born 12v 100ah

I suppose so. Frankly, google and android are both evil. "Don't be evil". Remember that quote from them? What a bunch of trash! Don't get me started....smoke will start pouring from my ears. Say, while we're on the subject....how's your 150/scc working? I'm about to connect my Victron...

    Thanks
  • Post in thread: How to wire a DC breaker?

I love those words- "never fail system". I meant that as words of confidence and not being sarcastic. Out at the panels there's a Combiner Box that has a 60a breaker in it. So I'll be putting a battery switch & fuse system just before the MPPT....so I can simply disconnect the system from...
  • Post in thread: Got panels...now what?

Ah....most informative! I was hoping that would be the situation. Thank you, Peter
  • Post in thread: Proposed System....what do you think?

Good ideas which I hope I understand. Is the following correct? Array 1 (has 6 panels)- 2 groups of 3 panels in series (Oc output would be 112.8v of each group) Combine these 2 groups into parallel and feed MPPT number 1 with 112.8v Array 2- (has 4 panels)- 2 groups of 2 panels...
  • Post in thread: Which LifePo 100 AH battery?

Weight isn't a concern nor ambient temperature- they'll be located in my basement which gets down to about 60° F. in the Winter and up to 82° F. in the Summer I don't expect to be using more than 650 Watt hours per day....at most...which is subject to change either more or less.
  • Post in thread: Off grid Design- water pump and extra power

Lupo, Now I'm pursuing the 24v panel system. But I'm inclined towards a high wattage array, for me, of about 800w as mentioned before. What's the cheapest and most practical way to go about panel selection? It would nice to get everything off of ebay and it looks like a more reasonable...
  • Post in thread: Configure IP65 for charging Battle Born 12v 100ah

No, my system will be 24v using two 12v BB in series. I've noticed a lot of of industrial/commercial building installations with the panels either flat or almost flat and have wondered why? The only conclusion I can make is for 2 reasons- cost and wind load. About excess generation not being...
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but not full power?

If it's any help I'm using Battle Born LIF 12v-100ah in series for a 24v-100ah system. My SCC is a Victron 150/60 so it can handle a huge amount of power. Looking at past performance records that the Victron mppt provides, the maximum Pv wattage output was 942 w. However, I don't know what...
  • Post in thread: Grounding- no idea what they're talking about!

I'm lost. What am I supposed to do with grounding? Ok. So, the incoming AC from the grid to the Multiplus is grounded using the AC in and out ground wire which will be attached to the AC IN junction box (not on the MP) and the AC OUT junction box (not on the MP) Is this correct- the...
  • Post in thread: Proposed System....what do you think?

Thanks for the recommendations. Will consider AGM also. A lot of my concerns about fire and explosions would be mitigated if the batteries, inverter and MPPT (everything) was stored outside. The problem for the batteries is that it sometimes (but not often) gets down to about 10° F here...
  • Post in thread: Off grid Design- water pump and extra power

Say, take a look at this panel- SanTan 250w Now, I'm curious. If I want a 24v panel, these panels are Voc= 37.6v Now what charge controller would accept 37 input and give me a 12vdc for battery etc? Thanks fellas, Peter
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but not full power?

In full Sun I checked the 3 strings and got varying amperage readings but all, except 1 string, were similar in readings. 1 string was about half the amperage of the other 2. No shading, no dirt on panels. Later in the day the 1 suspect string produced similar current figures compared to the...
  • Post in thread: Proposed System....what do you think?

Here's another concern- it looks like many of the MPPT controllers people have installed have been destroyed. My guess is in most cases the cause was; 1- too much input voltage from the panels and the charger design specifications being exceeded. 2- wrong wiring to or from the mppt.
  • Post in thread: How to wire a DC breaker?

The breaker is used to quickly open the circuit between the MPPT and the battery/Load side. I want everything down range of the MPPT to be de-energized (except the batteries, of course).
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but Power from Batteries?

Without going into the details, all of the SCC settings are correct per Battle Born so I have no concerns about them. I have 2 Battle Born 12v-100ah in Series for a 24v-100ah "power supply".
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but not full power?

    Here's my equipment.....but now I have 6 panels instead of 4. Equipment
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but not full power?

When the load is a 1.5 kW hair dryer, the Panels supplied about 600w and the batteries supplied around 1000w (as read using VictronConnect for the BMV-712) I had expected the panels would supply all of the power and not a large portion from the batteries to the inverter.
  • Post in thread: How to wire a DC breaker?

    So the answer is.....?
  • Post in thread: Which LifePo 100 AH battery?

It matters....I got a call returned by Battle Born and the gentleman answered my questions concerning their batteries. I suspect you're getting from them exactly what you're paying for- high quality and reliability. For the moment I'm tending toward Battle Born and though I'll fuss and fume...
  • Post in thread: Wire size- battery bank to inverter?

I saw the price on ebay. But, you do get what you pay for. So, while I'm not delighted with how expensive this off-grid system has cost I'm reminded of the following; President Roosevelt was asked about his yacht and how much it cost. He replied, "if you have to ask that question you...
  • Post in thread: Automatic Transfer Switch- which one?

Well, that's a nice one but the 2 second switch over will shut off computers if they're on. I need uninterrupted switch over....something like 20ms or so.
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but not full power?

But, the batteries are supplying most of the power. And, with a 1.5kW hair dryer running at its full power I expect the panels to supply well over 1kW or at least above 900w for the duration. I also put a 2kW microwave oven and the panels supplied 500 (or so) and the batteries 1.3kW.
  • Post in thread: Automatic Transfer Switch- which one?

Do you have an example of one?

    A house.
  • Post in thread: Wire size- battery bank to inverter?

More accurately....I came up with the saying.
  • Post in thread: Stop multiplus from charging during the night

'Just took a look at the update procedure as found on VRM. (I hope Victron reads this) The Multiplus update procedure is way too difficult and complicated for a simple man like me. - The process should be completely automated when little or no user intervention - There are too many steps - It...
  • Post in thread: Full Sun but not full power?

Before the Load was turned on they were at 27v which is Float for BB LIF. Once the load was turned on then the voltage dropped and went into Bulk charge.
  • Post in thread: Panel tilt

A very good point concerning the usual better part of the day for weather- more westerly orientation.
  • Post in thread: Multiplus Charger settings?

According to this from Battleborn from this document the charger Absorption voltage should be 28.8 and Float 27.6 My Victron MPPT has absorption set to 28.4 and Float 27. Those figures were recommended by BB. Multiplus 24v-3000w charger settings
