  • Post in thread: MPPT spec clarification needed

Just had clarification from voltacon themselves.... "Hello James it will work fine at 120V, it will not stop charging, the inverter will auto-adjust the volts/amps to track the maximum power point of the solar panels. If the voltage is over 145V , the inverter will disconnect the panel until...
  • Post in thread: parallel bms?

My worry, with large cells, is 'one cell' drift, over time. I'm looking to do this right first time and never look at it again. If active balancing keeps the cells balanced all the time, i'm happy. Regarding keeping lifepo4 cells fully charged all the time, that is not my intention. I would...
  • Post in thread: Chargery BMS now with Low Temp Cutoff

Many thanks steve for you input. Appreciated. Thinking about it logically, i probably dont need to 'relay' the AC supply side as the plug itself is protected by a 13A fuse, which would blow if more than 13A passed, so no inrush current from that side, i think? It is just the potential high amps...
  • Post in thread: Electronics questions

Ah right, will need to give my lonely brain cell time to digest that.....lol. Appreciate your help. (y) And if you regulate the voltage to match each cell, that knackers up your Amps....oh well
  • Post in thread: Amp-Hour measurement and losses, or, why Voltage still doesn't matter.

Exactly right...if these were sold at the prices they are, with a spec of 250AH, ran between 3.2v - 3.4v with a delta less than 10mv.....folks would be creaming in their pants :ROFLMAO: Human nature i suppose!
  • Post in thread: Checking Chargery voltage measurements

Great response Jason, have sent you an email.(y)
  • Post in thread: Advice on meaningful high-current test

I personally would take it to the highest C rate level that you would realistically operate at. In my very limited experience the cell delta's are influenced by the higher C rates, such that the single cell HVD/LVD could be triggered, depending on how close, parameters are set. If you take it to...
  • Post in thread: parallel bms?

First off, i'm a newbie to all this....so please be gentle...lol. A couple of points.... I started of, looking at the 2P16S setup, but kept bumping into folks on these boards that felt, you needed to monitor every cell individually. In a 2P scenario, if one cell in the pair was...
  • Post in thread: MPPT spec clarification needed

Of course.....senior moment....lol Have edited the post due to my stupidity. Ta
  • Post in thread: Another Deep Cycle test on BYDs

Yes jason i see your issue....but if possible, without causing any damage, then you have to weigh that up against how long you expect to use them? If you envisage getting another 5 years out of them, then a couple of weekends spent on dismantle and re assembly, could be very productive. :) The...
  • Post in thread: EVE matched cells, some cells drops very fast

Actually DZL, that is a very good opinion you gave. Your point is well made that, if balanced at 3.6 or above, the divergence or need for balancing lower down that knee will be minimal...sometimes you just have to read it from someone else. (y)
  • Post in thread: Chargery: AH measurements

Without the shunt, what is measuring the current? If the shunt detects an over current condition on charge or discharge, then that activates the relay. It was my understanding that the BMS harness measures the voltages. I'm no expert...just picking up snippets as i go.
  • Post in thread: Chargery remote cable length?

It beggars belief you got a hard time for trying to make improvements....just know, many folks on here appreciated your inputs.
  • Post in thread: Chargery BMS News / UPDATE (Nov.25.2020) Ver 4.02 firmware

I'm no expert, just learning this as i go along. Jason from Chargery has posted info on this previously, which i need to defer to. My understanding is, there is a potential issue, between the ground of the BMS being different from the ground of the battery pack, so the diode prevents this...
  • Post in thread: Shunt usage for two displays

Thanks SCClockDr. However, if comparing several different manufacturers, all using the same materials, is there any way of going by the figures in the datasheets to determine which is likely to give the highest accuracy? I was thinking along the lines of a 100mv100A shunt being more accurate...
  • Post in thread: The Electrodacus SBMS thread (SBMS0, DSSR50, etc)

Yes, i agree entirely, im exact opposite with small RV roof space and a fair bit of autonomous days storage, but as you say if it could cover other niches without to much work involved, then why not. For a guy of his intellect, its probably not a big reach.
  • Post in thread: EVE matched cells, some cells drops very fast

Perfect Gazoo....reckon mine wont be a whole lot different...will find out for sure just directly. 248Ah for trouble free running....sounds just the job for me. Thanks for that info.
  • Post in thread: Chargery BMS News / UPDATE (Nov.25.2020) Ver 4.02 firmware

I have to say, i think Will's video on the Chargery unit, done it a bit of a disservice. If you are using the supplied shunt which is already calibrated to the system, then the user functions are a lot easier than Will makes out. I'm a 'not too bright' technophobe user of the system and found it...
  • Post in thread: DIY BMS design and reflection

Not sure if this helps...(maybe similarities across range?) https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-BMV-712-Smart-EN.pdf Section8.. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Manual-BMV-700-700H-702-712-EN-NL-FR-DE-ES-SE-PT-IT.pdf Think the Deltec accuracy was 0.25% iirc.
  • Post in thread: EVE matched cells, some cells drops very fast

I thought it coincidental that my total delta's was 584mv and i'm sure you said you were 500mv at bottom and less than 100mv at top, so very similar total of delta's. As you say, shouldn't be a problem if we stay out of the knees. Incidentally, i tried discharging to 3.4v/cell then topping up...
  • Post in thread: This could be interesting

Yeah, there is no rush. It is the attention to detail i'm liking most.
  • Post in thread: BMS question regarding Chargery shunt

Thanks folks, that helps a lot to know that i dont need the shunt connected to the chargery unit to get the protections functionality. If i remember correctly, i also think that since i've no intention of charging up to 3.6V/cell, then the active balance function will be limited as well. As per...
  • Post in thread: Flyback diode questions

Thanks a bundle JeepHammer, good enough for me. (y)
  • Post in thread: Evaluating a charging/balancing strategy?

Thanks bob...i have a chargery unit, but haven't played about with all the functions yet, so cant say exactly what settings i can mod.
  • Post in thread: problem with capacity tester?

Fortunately i had a 150W spare tester(a dial up one rather than push button setting). My capacity testing is at about an end...i'm on to tweaking using my inverter/charger now at higher real life amperages and i dont expect to use the working tester overly much in the future.
  • Post in thread: Why do DC systems not make use of grounding to the same extent as with AC

I think for RV folks, cleaning up the terms used would be good to differentiate the differences between AC and DC. Why dont they just call it live/neutral/earth(grounding) on the AC side and call it positive/negative and chassis bond on the DC.
  • Post in thread: Is my set up safe?

The more i read you folks input, the more i'm coming around to the idea of having a single higher amp socket off the distribution box, which can either have the microwave/heater/toaster/kettle plugged in. The water pumps are low wattage(22W) and only need operate when running fresh tap water or...
  • Post in thread: How is DC-DC converter wired into a 48V MPP system?

*** note, im a newbie at this also, so just learning. Do your own checks*** Dont know if this helps.....just a very basic diagram The built in BMS protection should prevent over discharge through the dc converter by disconnecting the battery pack if needed.
  • Post in thread: Avoiding Galvanic Corrosion

I just installed my flanged aluminium studs 1 hour ago. I opted for a small line of threadlocker down one side of the terminal threads, none on the terminal surface or terminal bottom. Noalox on the terminal surface only(mearest film). Tightened the flange stud to 2nm using the double locked nut...
