Hi all,
A few months ago I made a post about my 3D printed battery design based on EVE 304ah cells. The project was completed a month ago but I have been very busy with work since then.
I just managed to find some time to push the design to Github...
This is a 210ah (105x2) battery I built for my 16-foot trailer. I purchased most of the components prior to discovering this forum, had I read this forum first, I probably would go with 280ah cells, much cheaper and requires just 1 BMS.
With that out of the way. I hope my experience would be...
OK, just finished designing of this battery case, I named it '300', as it's 300ah and fairly spartan :)
Waiting for a couple of components to arrive before I kick off printing.
If all works well, I will put the design on github.
Wish me luck :)
Cells: EVE 304ah
BMS: JBD 200A
2 weeks ago I ordered $900 worth of battery cells, but tracking information still shows shipping label created, meaning fedex has not received the package yet. ping’d seller and I was told this is expected. I started to have a bad feeling about this.
this is from the seller that sells the...
Just curious how is MPPT charger controller like a Victron powered?
Is it powered by just PV input? or combination of PV and battery? I mean when there is no or little sun, will it still be able keep the blue tooth running so we can check the status?
Thanks
In my small trailer solar (240w, in parallel) setup, I have a 20A auto-reset thermal breaker and a 32VDC switch between PV and a Victron SmartSolar 100/20 SCC. I want the switch so I can disconnect PV when it's not needed so it doesn't keep my battery at high SOC. I thought this was fairly...
My 105ah x 2 batteries are already installed in my TT. the problem is that they are no longer well balanced, I have one cell at 3.6v and others are at 3.4. the whole bank would not be able to get much above 14v as the 3.6v cell would quickly trigger overvoltage protection. I have top-balanced...
Hello,
I am wondering if folks disconnect solar charger(or panel) or lithium battery after each use of your trailer (I am not talking about winter storage)?
Asking as per this article, keeping LiFePo4 battery at high SOC isn't good for the battery life...
I ordered 8 100A cells and BMS for 2 100A banks, plan to use them in a to-be-delivered RV trailer solar project.
I need a solution to charge and test these cells without any solar component.
I do have this charger and a 1200W PSU (with 12v output) for R/C LiPo batteries, I have also used it...
The NewPowa 75w high efficiency panels I am interested in might or might not come with bypass diodes, but after I read this excellent post
https://diysolarforum.com/threads/crazy-diodes-and-not-useful-videos-on-youtube-make-a-diode-video-will.3994/#post-38695
I think in my setup, 75wx3 in...
I recently purchase 8 100A cells (those aluminum cells with blue paint). I plan to make 2 12v banks from them with 2 BMS's.
I am wondering what would be the optimal spacing for them? is ventilation necessary? Should I put them against each other without any gap? or maybe a 1/4" inch for some...
Hello,
On my Orion Tr 18A dc-dc smart charger, there 2 separate negative connector on both input and output. I am about to install it on my travel trailer and I need some help with wiring from the 7-way connector - there are 2 10awg wires, white (ground) and black(starter batt/alternator)...
I am having a bad feeling about this, any advice would be appreciated.
A couple of months ago I purchased 8 105ah (the blue aluminum ones recommended by Will) cells from aliexpress. it arrived a couple of weeks ago. I also purchased 2 JBD BMS with BT modules for the cells. Today I received...
I did some search on amazon for an ~100w foldable solar panel, as an addition to roof top rigid panels. I found most of popular/highly rated ones has 'output voltage' of 18v, does anyone know if this is Voc or Vmp?
I am wondering how folks use them to charge their trailer lithium batteries...
Hi,
I am a bit lost with mixing panels in parallel. I have read through this article and it makes sense to me:
https://solarpanelsvenue.com/mixing-solar-panels/
However when I watched this video
The 2 panels are of same voltage(vmp), connected in parallel, I'd expect...
Hi all,
I am almost done with my DIY LiFePo4 batteries (105ah x 2), and they will be connected in parallel, the question is, if I connect them in parallel, and if one of them are fully charged and one is fully discharged, would that cause too high of current flow from one to the other and...
Hey folks,
Currently I have 2 LiFePo4 banks (105ah x 2, with 2 120a JBD BMSes) in my small camper trailer and it works very well. I am adding a 2000w (continuous) inverter and wondering if it's safe - The cells are rated 1C, so if I trust that it should be fine, but I am worried the...
Hello,
I came across this article
https://www.doityourselfrv.com/solar-install-5/
Is this a good practice? I mean if the CC is rated 30A, then 35A could potentially harm it, and Solar CC rarely reach full capacity due to the PV operating conditions anyway. Does Victron have over current...
Hi all,
In my to be built system (200-300w panels + Victron SCC + 200ah Lithium battery + JBD BMS) I plan to have a disconnect switch for the battery. With that in the off season (long, wet winter in PNW) I can disconnect the battery and leave the battery in storage mode. This switch also...
Hi,
There is a 12v 'charge' connector in a 7-way trailer plug, in my trailer it connects directly to the main battery. My understanding is that while driving this will charge the trailer battery while driving. But this only works well for non-lithium batteries I assume? I am worried due to...
Has anyone discharged these prismatic cells at or close to 1C? I have these 105ah ones and they have very small machine screws on terminal and thin busbars. I am wondering if they are ok to handle 0.5-1c discharge. Wills video only showed about 15A discharge from them.
Thanks!
I am very new to this, and this is the first version.
I am adding a 200W (I might add one more panel if roof space permits) solar system to my 16' travel trailer
2 4s 100A battery banks will be using JBD smart BMSs each. Note I don't want to draw over 100A from them as I think the existing...
A couple of months ago I ordered 8 105ah prismatic cells from aliexpress (BLS), advertised as new 2020 cells. It arrive after long wait for them to be shipped from China. Today I finally got everything (JBD smart BMS, 20A dc charger, lugs, etc) needed to test them. and I was really disappointed...
Hello all,
I plan to add a 2000w pure sine wave inverter to my trailer, my goal is slightly different than most popular installation, and here is a rough design, please let me know if you see problem with this design, I know more details are needed, but I just want to make sure I am not...
Hello,
The day before yesterday I received multiple warnings from site mod @Supervstech about I hitting 'report' link, instead of 'reply'.
and a few hours later I was banned. I have tried to message @Supervstech but he/she just sent me a screenshot of the page with report and reply links...
I need a charger that can regulate input current to be under 20A. that's the fuse size in my TV.
I just found this cheap boost/step up converter:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001136127521.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.384e4c4duHH4r5
I also plan to add a relay so I the charging can be turned...
I was pretty excited after watching Will's video on Renogy's DC-DC charger with MPPT. It solves the last issue I had with my trailer solar setup - charging trailer battery with TV starting battery/alternator, and provide isolation. That's until I read the wire sizing requirement.
Unlike van...
Hi,
I am about to install 2-3 Renogy 100W compact panels on roof top of my 16' travel trailer, due to space constraint, panels will be installed by sides of the AC unit.
As you can see the top row of PV2 cells could be entirely in AC's shadow if sun shines from the other side of the AC...
Hi folks,
I recently installed a Victron Orion-Tr 12/12-18 DC-DC smart charger on my travel trailer. it's connected to TV (SUV) via 7pin trailer cable and the fuse in the TV is 20A - that's why I purchased the 18a charger - I do not want the charger to draw too much current that trip the...
Hi folks,
In the 12v panel box of my trailer there is this positive bus bar - see the attached picture, it's the copper one on left side. I am wondering what's the purpose of the thermal breakers built into the positive busbar? more specifically, around what temp would they trip? would it be...
