I purchased my 6000ex in June 2023 and find just 4 months later it has been discontinued and won't be supported with any future firmware updates. To say the least, I'm frustrated, especially seeing the multiple posts about problems with these inverters. At the moment mine seems to be working...
Thanks for finally posting this. I really don't understand why this took so long, nor why such confusion on the part of support. Many of us have been concerned about using Solar Assistant with our EG4 inverters because of this misinformation.
Yes, without an net metering agreement and all the needed approvals, they will be upset. You should either get an agreement or find some way to store the excess for use at other times.
I started a similar discussion here: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/solar-assistant-possibly-voids-warranty-on-eg4-inverters.68225/
@BenFromSignatureSolar assured in that post that connecting the Pi to the inverter DOES NOT VOID the warranty. So Ben, any comment?
@Markus_SignatureSolar how...
Ever since I saw this post I've been researching Oregon building codes. For the moment, I'm going with this quote from the Oregon Solar Code. I'm legitimately testing a new system to see if it is feasible to actually provide power to certain circuits in my home. One can argue what constitutes...
Sounds like my project. Had to replace our roof, which required removing and replacing the existing grid-tied system. Left me with 21 Sanyo 200watt panels I just couldn't toss. Bought an EG4 6000ex and a couple of batteries, just to test. :)
Today I have 6 EG4 LifePower4 batteries in a...
I, too, bought my entire system this year...forced to due to circumstances beyond my control. Insurance company forced us to replace roof. Old PV system on roof, too expensive to remove and re-install so new system on roof. Reused the old panels along with a new EG4 6000ex, and three EG4...
As with many other tech companies, the forum seems to become the primary source of information and tech support for many members. I can find answers to most of my questions here when, as others have noted, it is nearly impossible, most of the time, to contact Signature Solar support by email or...
I seem to recall that you work closely with SS, particularly with the 18k or maybe the 12k. I seem to recall in one of your videos you were talking with SS support fairly regularly about all the issues you were having plus two or three replacements. That's all I was talking about.
Thanks so much for posting the YouTube link. I've got the hub, EG4 6000ex and EG4 LifePower4 batteries with Solar Assistant. I never tried connecting my Pi to the batteries with the USB cable while they were connected to the hub, but I did today and finally have all the battery data in SA...
Wasn't targeting him at all. I realize he reviews a lot of products and seems to have much better support from the vendors than you or I might expect. Wonder why that might be?
For me, I just installed my system, which is my first. SA gives me information on how it is performing so I can easily verify that things are working correctly. I come from the IT industry and we monitored EVERYTHING to make sure there were no problems. Probably just being anal but I want to...
I installed mine on 4x4 posts. Then used duckbill anchors at each vertical post. I've got 20 x 200w panels installed. Each rack was able to hold three panels.
This is my setup...distribution panel has three circuits. The inverter feeds into a 40 double pole breaker, there is a 20 amp for the regular outlet and a 30 amp for the transfer switch.
This is from page 4 of the EG4 LifePower4 manual:
WARNING: Do NOT parallel batteries by using jumper wires on the terminals. This will cause
high amperage in the final jumpers and potentially excessive amperage on the battery terminals.
I recently had to re-roof my home. I had a 17 year old grid-tied system on the roof that had to be removed to complete the work. I was quoted about $10k to remove and reinstall the 21 panels and got a quote of $27k for a new larger system (4.2kWh to 9.6kWh). I have the new system which...
