diy solar

Very new to solar but started purchasing items, not sure of the final specs of the whole system.

Finally had the generator coupons at hf and picked up the 8750 so I could run my welder on 240v. But I also get to try on the chargeverter for the first time.
Currently set at 64 amps and it's not hot, I need to find the camera and take a few pictures.

How far it has charged since 6:41 pm.

Is that 1 or 2 Chargeverters?

Is that as much as you can get out of it?
It is only one, I plan on testing some more today. I ran the generator on and off with a 1500w load the day before to do the break in. Still on the break in procedure and waiting to bump up the amps.

I got ya.

Interested to see what it can do.

I will keep a running check on the amps from two Growatt controllers. Then replace both with the victron 450/200 and do the same to compare.

That will be interesting..
I'm interested to see the results as I plan to gather a week's worth of data. The goal is to record the amps but if the weather is too divergent from the previous days I will not record that day. Thinking of changing inverters to free up breakers. Quatro 15k requires a transformer and the multi 8k and up cannot be used in parallel. Seems that out of many I looked at it's down to the eg4 18k.

You thinking about switching out your Growatts?

I’m not familiar enough with the LUX 18k to say good or bad.

I went with the Sol-Ark 15ks parallel and love them..

If the prices are not really really good, you might want to look at Midnite solars gear. I love the Classic
I can tell you that if I were to buy the same today that I bought from Signature Solar over a year ago, I would have another 5920 watts of panels and another 5000-watt inverter and spend $2600 as opposed to the $3500 I spent back then. I believe I got a great deal then and, if I choose to increase my input and output, I'll buy the equivalent system though it would mean having the potential to fill my batteries twice on a relatively cool summer day.

I will keep those but thinking of changing out the four 6500. I really wanted to try the victron 15k, the eg4 18k with two only provides 24k which is on the low side for what I would like. The victron autotransformer instructions are clear but I still have many questions on it. I was able to keep the balance very easily on the four 6500.

Really not familiar withe Victron 15k.
Only one I know anything about is the Quattros.

The EG4 18k and Sol-Ark15k only provide 12k from battery.
I’m guessing your not trying to use the grid.

They make bigger Units but 3 phase.

Is that a possibility or are you just going to have to stack multiple in parallel?

I'm not setup at all to use the grid. I would be happy with 24kw on each breaker but I have two 12kw growatts, plus the four eg4 that I would need to sell and take a loss on. I have most of the 240v moved onto breaker 2 which is serviced by the four eg4 6500.

Yea selling at a loss sucks.

Had to do that with my 2 Sol-ark 12ks.

For me it was worth the loss just to simplify everything and not have to tinker with it everyday.

Might be different for you.

Decided to use the trade in and get two eg4 18k to try. If they do well add another two to the other breaker box which would help greatly for charging etc.

Is it signature Solar who offers trade ins?

4 x 18k inverter would consolidate stuff pretty fast.

I still can’t believe you use that much power.

Signature is offering returns on them but only two. I'm working towards being able to charge two ev at the same time. But have enough to run heat or ac, laundry and all the other house loads. I have 8 scc in use but I can move those to the inverters but I need to really figure out if they can handle the first 3 arrays. Then I have two more arrays to install then troubleshoot one array that is showing lower amps combining at the combiner.

Well according to the spec sheet each 18k can handle 18-21k of solar.

That’s 36-41kw for 2.

How big are your arrays?
